Paraphrase

எந்தத் திகையினும் மலையினும் உவரியின் எந்தப் படியினும் (endhath thigaiyinum malaiyinum uvariyin endhap padiyinum ) : In any direction, mountain or at any place on the sea shore, எந்தத் திசையினும், மலையினும், கடல் சூழ்ந்த எந்தப் பூமியிலும் (அல்லது கடலினும், எந்தப் பூமியினும்), உவரி (uvari ) : salty water, refers to sea; படி (padi) : earth;

முகடினும் உளபல எந்தச் சடலமும் உயிரியை பிறவியின் உழலாதே ( mugadinum uLa pala endha chadalamum uyiriyai piRaviyin uzhalAdhE ) : or on any rooftop, in any birth, in any form of life, I should not be born again; வீட்டின் உச்சி, மலை உச்சி முதலிய உச்சிகளிலும் வசிக்கின்ற பல வகையான எந்த உடலில் வாழும் உயிர் சேர் பிறப்புக்களிலும் (நான்) உழன்று திரியாமல்; இயை = பொருந்து; உயிர் இயை பிறவி = உயிருடன் கூடிய பிறவி;

இந்தச் சடமுடன் உயிர்நிலை பெற ( indha chadamudan uyir nilai pera ) : In order that my birth ends with the present one,

நளினம் பொற் கழலிணைகளில் மரு மலர் கொடு ( naLinam poR kazhal iNaigaLil maru malar kodu) : (I would like to worship Your) lotus-like, golden feet with fragrant flowers, தாமரையை ஒத்த பொற்பாதங்கள் இரண்டிலும் வாசம் மிகுந்த மலர்களைக் கொண்டு; நளினம் (naLinam) : lotus;

என் சித்தமும் மனமும் உருகி நல் சுருதியின் முறையோடே ( en chiththamum manam urugi nalsurudhiyin muRaiyOdE ) : with my intellect and mind totally mellowed, and following the procedures stipulated in the great scriptures;

சந்தித்து அரஹர சிவசிவ சரணென (sandhithu arahara sivasiva saraN ena) : and meet you while chanting 'arahara, Shiva, Shiva, offer me Your refuge',

கும்பிட்டு இணையடி அவை என தலைமிசை தங்க (kumbittu iNaiyadi avaiyena thalai misai thanga) : with folded hands and your twin feet on my head,

புளகிதம் எழ இரு விழி புனல் குதி பாய ( puLakitham ezha iruvizhi punal kudhi pAya ) : with an enthralled body, and a flood of tears pouring down my eyes,

சம்பைக் கொடியிடை விபுதையின் அழகு முன் ( chambai kodiyidai vibudhaiyin azhagu mun ) : appearing before the lightning-like slender-waisted Parvati ; சம்பைக் கொடி போன்ற மெல்லிய இடையுடைய, உமாதேவியாருடைய அழகிய திருமுன், சம்பை (chambai) : Lightning; விபுதை (vipudhai ) : celestial, learned;

அந்தத் திரு நடமிடு சரண் அழகுற ( andhath thiru nadamidu charaN azhaguRa ) : dancing with thy feet looking beautiful, அழகிய தெய்வீகத் தாண்டவஞ் செய்யும் சரணாரவிந்தம் அழகு செய்ய,

சந்தச் சபைதனில் எனதுளம் உருகவும் வருவாயே ( sandha sabai thanil enadhuLam urugavum varuvAyE) : come to the august congregation and melt my heart! சம்பந்தாண்டானுடன் வாதம் நடக்கையில் அருணகிரிநாதர் பிரபுடதேவராஜன் முதலியோர் குழுமியுள்ள பேரவையில் முருகவேளை வரவழைக்கும் பொருட்டுப் பாடியருளியது இப்பாடல். “எந்தத் திசையினும்", “கொடிய மறலியும்", “இருவர் மயலோ" என்ற திருப்புகழ் பாடல்களை உள்ளமுருகப் பாடினார். எனினும் முருகவேள் காட்சி தரவில்லை. அருணகிரிநாதர் அடுத்த கணமே ஆழ்நிலை தியானத்திற்குச் சென்ற போது அன்னையின் மடியிலிருந்து திமிறி எழ முயலும் முருகனை உமா தேவியார் சம்பந்தாண்டானின் வேண்டுதலின் பெயரில் விடவில்லை என்று புரிந்தது. பிறகு அவர் மயிலின் ஆட்டத்தை வாழ்த்த 'ஆதார பாதளம் பெயரஅடி பெயர' பாடுகிறார். மயில் ஆனந்த பரவசமாகி அற்புதமான நடனம் ஆடினதை கண்ட அன்னையின் பிடி நழுவிற்று. உடனே மடியிலிருந்து துள்ளிக் குதித்து மயிலின் மீது ஏறி நொடியில் திருவண்ணாமலை கோயிலின் ஈசான திசையில் உள்ள தூணிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்டு அனைவருக்கும் காட்சி அளித்தார்! அன்னையின் மடியிலிருந்து முருகன் துள்ளிக் குதித்து மயில் மீது தாவி ஏறியவுடன் அருணகிரியார் பாடிய மிகப் பிரசித்த பாடல்தான், “அதல சேடனாராட அகிலமேரு மீதாட, அபின காளி தானாட”

சிலைமணி கலகல கலினென (silaimaNi galagala galinena) : the bells on the bow ringing with the sound "gala gala galin"; வில்களில் கட்டியுள்ள மணிகள் கலகல என்று ஒலிக்கவும்,

சிந்தச் சுரர் மலர் அயன் மறை புகழ்தர ( sindha surar malar ayan maRai pugazh thara) : the celestials showered flowers and BrahmA chanted the VEdAs in Your praise; தேவர்கள் மலர்களைப் பொழியவும், பிரமதேவரும் வேதங்களும் வியந்து புகழ்ந்து துதி செய்யவும், அயன் (ayan) : Brahma

துன்புற்ற அவுணர்கள் நமனுலகு உற விடும் அயில்வேலா ( thunbutra avuNargaL naman ulaguRavidu mayil vElA ) : and the vanquished demons were sent to the land of the God of Death (Yaman) as You hurled the sharp Spear, Oh Lord!

கந்தச் சடைமுடி கனல் வடிவு அடலணி ( gandha sadaimudi kanal vadi vadalaNi) : He has a fragrant tress, the body of the hue of fire and a symbol of victory; நறுமணமுள்ள சடாபாரமும் நெருப்பைப் போன்ற திருவுருவத்தையும் வெற்றியையும் உடைய

எந்தைக்கு உயிரெனு மலைமகள் ( endhaik kuyirenu malai magaL) : He is our Lord SivA whose life-like consort is PArvathi, the daughter of HimavAn;

மரகத கந்தப் பரிமள தனகிரி உமையருள் இளையோனே (maragatha gandha parimaLa thanagiri umai aruL iLaiyOnE) : You are the younger child of emerald-green complexioned Uma whose bosoms are like fragrant mountains;

கஞ்சப் பதமிவர் திருமகள் குலமகள் ( kanjap padhamivar thirumagaL kulamagaL ) : (The Goddess Lakshmi)Seated on the lotus flower, the Goddess of Wealth and a descendent of a great lineage; தாமரைப் பீடத்திலே ஏறி அமர்ந்திருக்கும் திருமகளாகிய குலமகள்

அம்பொற் கொடியிடை புணர் அரி மருக ( ampoR kodiyidai puNar ari maruga ) : with a waist slender as the creeper, You are the nephew of Lord Vishnu who enjoys Lakshmi (described in the above lines),
