Paraphrase

Life is transient and so is youth. As we grow older, the hair turns grey and we become the target of derision for the street girls (harlots or call girls). Only His grace and His feet can snip at the roots of numerous births.

The second set of four lines describe the eyes of these girls that resemble the bows and arrows of Manmatha, the god of love, and tempt even the virtuous, and thus do we spend our youth aimlessly.

மகர கேதனத்தன் உருவு இலான் எடுத்து மதுர நாண் இட்டு (makara kEthanaththan uruvu ilAn eduththu mathura nAN ittu) : Manmatha, who holds the staff with the fish emblem and is without a shape or form, takes the sweet bow of sugarcane and pulls the string; கேதனம் (kEthanam: an ensign of distinction, victory, a banner; மகர கேதனத்தன் ( magara kEthanaththan: One who has the fish on his flag, Manmatha; உருவு இலான் ( uruvu ilaan) : formless, Ananga (incorporeal);
Manmathan's bow is made of sugarcane (கரும்பு) with a string of honeybees (சுரும்பு ), and his arrows are decorated with five kinds of fragrant flowers (அரும்பு )

நெறி சேர்வார் மலையவே வளைத்த சிலையின் ஊடு ஒளித்த வலிய சாயக கண் மட மாதர் இகழ (neRi sErvAr malaiyavE vaLaiththa silaiyin Udu oLiththa valiya sAyagak kaN mada mAthar ikazha) : (like the god of love) the whores, who are capable of ensnaring and tormenting even the virtuous ones with their eyes that are hidden behind the arched bow, jeer சிலை ( silai) : bow; வலிய சாயக (valiya sAyaga) : like a strong arrow; சாயகம் ( sAyagam) : arrow; அம்பு; நெறி சேர்வார் மலைய ( neRi sErvAr malaiya ) : enticing even the people on the virtuous path; நல்ல நெறியில் இருப்பவர்களும் மயங்குமாறு;

வாசம் உற்ற தலை எ(ல்)லாம் வெளுத்து (vAsam utRa thalai e(l)lAm veLuththu) : my (erstwhile) dark and fragrant hair has become totally white;

இளமை போய் ஒளித்து விடு மாறு (iLamai pOy oLiththu vidumARu) : my bygone youth has been buried somewhere;

இடை விடாது எடுத்த பிறவி வேர் அறுத்து உன் இனிய தாள் அளிப்பது ஒரு நாளே (idai vidAthu eduththa piRavi vEr aRuththu un iniya thAL aLippathu oru nALE) : to sever the root of birth which I have taken without break, will You kindly grant me Your sweet hallowed feet one of these days?

அகிலம் ஏழும் எட்டு வரையின் மீது முட்ட அதிரவே நடத்தும் மயில் வீரா (akilam Ezhum ettu varaiyin meethu mutta athiravE nadaththum mayil veerA) : Oh valorous One! You drive Your peacock so powerfully that it hits the seven worlds and the eight mountains, sending shock waves!

அசுரர் சேனை கெட்டு முறிய வானவர்க்கு அடைய வாழ்வு அளிக்கும் இளையோனே ( asurar sEnai kettu muRiya vAnavarkku adaiya vAzhvu aLikkum iLaiyOnE ) : Oh Young One, You destroy the armies of the demons, restoring fully the life of the celestials!

மிக நிலா எறித்த அமுத வேணி நிற்க விழை சுவாமி வெற்பில் உறைவோனே (miga nilA eRiththa amutha vENi niRka vizhai suvAmi veRpil uRaivOnE) : You reside in SwAmimalai before Lord SivA, Whose matted nectar-sweet hair bears the moon radiating brilliant light, and Who stood before You ardently; அமுத வேணி (amutha vENi ) : matted nectar-sweet hair; மிக நிலா எறித்த அமுத வேணி (miga nilA eRiththa amutha vENi) : ஒளிவீசும் அமுதமான கங்கை பெருகும் சடையைத் தாங்கிய சிவபெருமான் ;

விரைய ஞான வித்தை அருள் செய் தாதை கற்க வினவ ஓதுவித்த பெருமாளே.(viraiya njAna viththai aruL sey thAthai kaRka vinava Othuviththa perumALE.) : Lord SivA Who enables His devotees to quickly learn the fundamental principle of True Knowledge was Himself eager to be taught, and You imparted that knowledge to Him, Oh Great One! வினவ (vinava) : when questioned (about the meaning of Pranava).
