Paraphrase

சத்தி பாணீ நமோநம முத்தி ஞானீ நமோநம (sakthi pANee namOnama mukthi nyAnee namOnama) : I bow to You, I bow to You, who holds in His hands the Spear of Sakthi, which represents Wisdom and embodies Knowledge that can liberate me;

தத்வ ஆதி நமோநம (thathva Adhee namOnama) : I bow to You, I bow to You, the foremost Thathva (tenet);

விந்து நாத சத்து ரூபா நமோநம (vindhu nAdha saththu rUpA namOnama) : I bow to You, I bow to You, the total essence of Shiva (natham) and Shakthi (Vinthu) tatvas; சிவதத்துவங்கள் ஐந்தினுள் விளங்கும் விந்துதத்துவம் நாத தத்துவம் என்ற இரண்டையுங் கடந்து நிற்கும் உண்மை வடிவினரே!

ரத்ந தீபா நமோநம (rathna dheepA namOnama) : I bow to You, I bow to You, the light emanating from the lamp made of precious gems;

தற் ப்ரதாபா நமோநம என்று பாடும் பத்தி பூணாமலே (thathprathApA namOnama endrupAdum bakthi pUNAmalE) : and I bow to You, I bow to You, whose fame is equal only to Yourself; I never sang any of the above lines with devotion; தற் ப்ரதாபா (thaR pratApA) : comparable to oneself alone;தனக்குத் தானே நிகரான கீர்த்தியை உடையவன்;

உலகத்தின் மானார் சவாது அகில் பச்சை பாடீர பூஷித கொங்கைமேல் வீழ் ( ulagaththin mAnAr savAdhagil pacchai pAteera bUshitha kongaimElveezh) : but fell for the breasts of the deer-like women in this world, the breasts that were fragrant with javvadhu, incence, camphor, sandal paste and other aromatic mixtures. பாடீரம் (pateeram) : sandal;

உலோகித பத்ம சீர் பாத நீ இனி வந்து தாராய் (ulOgitha padhma seerpAdha neeyini vandhuthArAy) : You must come to me at least now and grant Your great lotus-feet that bestow benefit on the entire world. உலோகித/உலோக இத ( ulogitha/ulaga hitha ) : benefiting the entire world;

அ(ஸ்)த்ர தேவ ஆயுதா (a(s)thra dhEvA yudhA) : You hold the lance that is the Leader of all weapons! அஸ்திர (ஆயுத) தேவதையாகிய வேலாயுதத்தை ஏந்தியவனே,அ(ஸ்)த்ர தேவ(a(s)thra dhEvA) : Leader of the weapons -- the vel or spear; ஸ்திரம் என்றால் நிலைபெறுதல். நிலைபெறுதலின்றி செல்வது அஸ்திரம் எனப்படும். அஸ்திரங்களுக்கு அரசாக விளங்குவது வேலாயுதம்.

சுரர் உக்ர சேனாபதீ (surar ugra sEnA pathee) : You are the fierce commander-in-chief of the army of DEvAs!

சுசி அர்க்(கி)ய(ம்) சோமாசியா குரு சம்ப்ரதாயா (suchi argya sOmAji yAguru sampradhAyA) : You preside as Master over sacrificial pyres where pure offerings are made with holy water and SOmarasam (fermented honey)! தூய்மையான மந்திர நீரோடு கூடியதும், சோமரசம் பிழிந்து செய்யத் தக்கதுமாகிய வேள்விகட்கு குருமூர்த்தமாக நின்ற, தொன்று தொட்டு வந்த வழக்கமுடையவரே! சுசி ( suchi ) : pure;
சோமக்கொடிகள் சந்திரனைப் போலவே வளர்பிறை காலத்தில் சிறிது சிறிதாக வளர்ந்து பெளர்ணமி அன்று முழு வளர்ச்சி அடைகிறது. தேய்பிறை காலத்தில் சிறிது சிறிதாக குன்றி அமாவாசை அன்று மிகச் சிறிதாகி விடுகிறது. உயர்ந்த மலைகளில் வளரும் சோமக்கொடிகளை பறித்து இடித்த தூள்களை தேன், பால் அல்லது தயிருடன் கலந்து தயாரிப்பது மயக்கம் தரும் சோம பானம். வீரர்கள் போரின் போதும் உடல் தளர்ச்சி அடையாமல் தொடர்ந்து சுறுசுறுப்பாகவும், மனவுறுதியுடன் செயல்பட உதவுகிறது.

புய அ(க்)க்ஷ மாலாதரா (buya aksha mAlA dharA:) : You wear the garlands made of rudhrAksha on Your hallowed shoulders!அக்ஷ மாலா(aksha mala) : rosary of rudraksha beads;

குற மங்கை கோவே (kuRa mangaikOvE) : You are the King of VaLLi, the gypsy girl belonging to the hunter tribe;

சித்ர கோலாகலா (chithra kOlA kalA vira lakshmi jAthA rathA) : You are handsome and pompous! சித்ர (chitra) : beautiful/handsome;

வீர லக்ஷ்மி சா(ஜா)தா ரதா(veera lakshmi jaatha) : You are born to PArvathi who is the valorous Lakshmi! You are sweet! வீர லக்ஷ்மி சா(ஜா)தா(veera lakshmi jaatha) : born to Veera Lakshmi (Parvati); ரதா (ratha) : sweet;

பல திக்கு பாலா (pala dhikku pAlA) : You are the Protector of all directions!

சிவாகம தந்த்ர போதா (sivakAma thanthrabOdhA) : You are the best interpreter and teacher of Saivite scriptures!

சிட்ட நாதா சிராமலை அப்பர் ஸ்வாமீ (chitta nAthA sirAmalai appar svAmee ) : You are the Leader of all wise saints! You are the Master of ThAyumAnavar (SivA) who is the Lord of Thiruchiramalai! சிட்(ஷ்)ட நாதா (sishtha naatha) : leader of the righteous saints; ஒழுக்கமுடைய ஞானிகட்கெல்லாம் தலைவரே! சிராமலை அப்பர் = தாயுமானவர்; திருச்சி மாவட்டத்தில் தாயுமானவர் கோயிலில் குடி கொண்டுள்ள இறைவன், எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் தந்தையாகவுள்ள சிவபெருமான் பெண்ணுக்கு மகப்பேறு காலத்தில் தாயாக வந்து உதவினார். சிவனை முருகன் தெய்வானை, வள்ளி ஆகிய இருவருடனும் ஈசனை இங்கு பூஜிக்கிறார்கள் என்பது ஐதீகம்.
