Paraphrase

How do we attain the Lord's feet? By remembering and singing about the Lord's peacock, the kadappa flower, the Spear, the six divine faces, and the rooster, and extol Him as the husband of the lass who lived in the fertile mountains of Vallimalai where the tumultuous waterfalls uproot agil (a tree as fragrant as sandal) trees.

சிகரிகள் இடிய நட நவில் கலவி ( sikarigaL idiya natanavil kalavi) : "The pretty-tailed Peacock that danced so hard as to reduce the eight mountains to powder; அஷ்ட கிரிகளும் பொடிபடும்படியாக நடனம் பயிலும் கலாப மயில், கலவி (kalavi) : கலாப;

செவ்வி மலர்க் கடம்பு சிறு வாள் வேல் (sevvi malark kadambu siRu vAL vEl) : the freshly blossomed kadappa flowers; the short sword; the Spear; செவ்வி (sevvi) : அன்றலர்ந்த, புதிய; சிறுவாள்= 'சீரா' எனப்படும் சிறுவாள்;

திருமுக சமுக சததள முளரி (thiru muga samuga satha dhaLa muLari) : the cluster of six lovely faces, each one resembling a lotus with a hundred petals; முளரி (muLari) : lotus;

திவ்ய கரத்திணங்கு பொருசேவல் (divya karath iNangu poru sEval) : the staff held in one hand, bearing the fiery rooster;

அகிலடி பறிய எறி திரை அருவி (akiladi paRiya eRi thirai aruvi) : the forceful waterfall that uproots the sandal tree. அடி பறிய எறி திரை = வேரோடு பறித்தெறிகின்ற

ஐவன வெற்பில் வஞ்சி கணவா ( aivana veRpil vanji kaNavA) : flows through VaLLimalai, fertile with paddy fields, where lives the slim vanji (rattan reed) creeper-like damsel, VaLLi; and You are her consort!" ஐவன(நெல்) வெற்பு(aivana veRpu) : மலை நெல் விளையும் (வள்ளி)மலை;

என்று அகிலமும் உணர மொழி தரு மொழியின் அல்லது பொற் பதங்கள் பெறலாமோ (endru akilamum uNara mozhitharu mozhiyin alladhu poRpadhangaL peRalAmO) : so extol Your devotees with words that would make the entire world realize Your greatness. Without such prayers, how can anyone attain Your golden feet? என்று உலகமெல்லாம் உமது பெருமையை உணர்ந்துகொள்ளுமாறு கூறி வழிபடுகின்ற சொற்களால் அல்லாது தேவரீரது அழகிய திருவடிகளைப் பெறுதல் கூடுமோ? கூடாது.

நிகரிட அரிய சிவ சுத பரம (nigarida ariya siva sutha parama) : You are the son of SivA, who is peerless. You are paramount!

நிர்வசன ப்ரசங்க குருநாதா (nirvachana prasanga gurunAthA) : Your teaching (of the PraNava ManthrA) is beyond comprehension through words, Oh Master!

நிரை திகழ் பொதுவர் நெறிபடு பழைய நெல்லி மரத்தமர்ந்த அபிராம (nirai thigazh podhuvar neRi padu pazhaiya nelli marath amarndha abirAmA) : There is an old Nelli tree in the pathway of cowherds tending flocks of cows, and You took Your seat happily under that tree, Oh Handsome One! நிரை (nirai) : cattle; பொதுவர் (podhuvar) : cowherds; செங்கல்வராய பிள்ளையவர்கள் இது திருவேரக மான்மியத்தில் குறிக்கப்படும் சுவாமிமலை நெல்லி மரமாகவும் இருக்கலாம்; அல்லது திருவாவினன்குடியின் தல விருட்சமான நெல்லிமரத்தைக் குறிப்பதாகவும் இருக்கலாம் என்கிறார். நெல்லி மரம் சுவாமிமலையின் தல விருட்சமாகும். சுவாமிமலைக்கு அருகே பூமிதேவியானவள் பார்வதியின் சாபத்தால் பலகாலம் இருந்து, ஷண்முகனை வணங்கி சாப விமோசனம் பெற்றாள். முருகனை விட்டுப் பிரிய மனமில்லாது அங்கேயே நெல்லிமரமாக நின்றாள் என்கிறது திரு ஏரக மான்மியம்.

வெகுமுக ககன நதி மதி இதழி (vegu muga gagana nadhi madhi idhazhi) : River Ganga with a thousand faces, the crescent, kondRai (Indian laburnum) leaf, வெகுமுக ககன நதி (vegu muga gagana nathi) : ஆயிரம் முகங்களோடு ஓடும் ஆகாய கங்கை;

வில்வ முடித்த நம்பர் பெருவாழ்வே (vilva mudiththa nambar peruvAzhvE) : and vilvam (bael) leaf adorn the matted locks of hair of our beloved Lord SivA; and You are His Treasure!

விகசித கமல பரிமள கமல (vikasitha kamala parimaLa kamala) : There are widely blossomed lotuses and fragrant ones

வெள்ளி கரத்த மர்ந்த பெருமாளே. (veLLi karath amarndha perumALE.) : in VeLLigaram, which is Your abode, Oh Great One!
