குரை கடல் உலகினில் உயிர் கொடு போந்து (kurai kadal ulaginil uyir kodu pOnthu) : In this world surrounded by noisy oceans, a life takes birth, ஆரவாரம் செய்கின்ற கடல் சூழ்ந்த உலகில் உயிர் எடுத்து வந்து,

கூத்தாடுகின்ற குடில் பேணி (kUththAdukinRa kudil pENi) : into the hut-like body and indulges in boisterous revelry! கூத்தாடுகின்ற குடிசை போன்ற உடலை விரும்பி போற்றி

குகையிட மருவிய கருவிழி மாந்தர் (gugaiyida maruviya karu vizhi mAnthar) : People fall into the pit of the womb resembling the interior of mountainous caves! மலைக்குகை போல உள்ள கருவிலே இறங்கி விழுகின்ற மனிதர்களுக்கு

கோட்டாலை இன்றி அவிரோதம் வர (kOttAlaiyinRi yavirOtham vara ) : and experience misery. In order that I am spared that kind of despair, develop a non-hostile and friendly attitude, and நேர்வதான எந்தத் துன்பமும் இல்லாமல், யாரோடும் பகைக்காத மனப்பக்குவத்தை அடைந்தும் கோட்டாலை(kOttAlai) : sorrow, Grotesque gestures, foolish behavior, துன்பம், விகடக்கூத்து, மூடநடத்தை

இரு வினையற (iru vinaiyaRa) : to overcome the effects of both good and bad deeds,

உணர்வொடு தூங்குவார்க்கே விளங்கும் அநுபூதி வடிவினை (uNarvodu thUngu vArkkE viLangum anupUthi vadivinai) : and experience bliss, which can be discerned only by those who are immersed in deep meditation on the true knowledge, ஞான நிலையில் தங்கிருப்பவர்களுக்கே விளங்குவதாகிய ‘அனுபவ ஞானம்’ என்னும் உன் அருட்பிரசாத வடிவத்தை,

உனது அழகிய திருவார்ந்த வாக்கால் மொழிந்தருள வேணும் (unathu azhagiya thiru vArntha vAkkAl mozhinthu aruLa vENum ) : You will have to preach me with Your most auspicious and beautiful words of wisdom (so that I can experience the blissful experience of anubhoothi)!

விரி திரை எரி எழ (viri thirai eri ezha) : and the wide ocean full of waves caught fire, when

முதலுற வாங்கு வேற்கார கந்த (muthaluRa vAngu vERkAra kantha) : You wielded Your prime weapon, Spear, Oh Kantha!

புவியேழும் மிடி கெட விளைவன வள வயல் (puvi Ezhum midi keda viLaivana vaLa vayal) : The lush fields produce enough food crop to feed the seven worlds and remove their poverty;

சூழ்ந்த வேப்பூர் அமர்ந்த பெருமாளே. (chUzhntha vEppUra marntha perumALE.) : and such fertile fields surround VEppUr, which is Your abode, Oh Great One!
