Paraphrase

மாலினால் எடுத்த கந்தல் (mAlinAl eduththa kanthal) : This body, which has taken birth as a result of desire, is a tattered rag cloth;

சோறினால் வளர்த்த பொந்தி (sORinAl vaLarththa ponthi) : this body is built up by means of consuming cooked rice; பொந்தி (ponthi) : the body;

மாறி ஆடு எடுத்த சிந்தை (mARi Adu eduththa sinthai) : and the mind keeps on vacillating with so many thoughts; மாறி மாறி எண்ணம் கொள்ளும் இந்த மனம்,

அநியாய மாயையால் எடுத்து மங்கினேன் (aniyAya mAyaiyAl eduththu manginEn) : all these (the body, the mind and thoughts) I acquired in this world due to unfair delusion, and I am deteriorating day by day. இவையெல்லாம் அநியாயமான பிரபஞ்ச மயக்கத்தால் எடுத்தவனாக நான் வாட்டம் உறுகின்றேன்.

ஐயா எனக்கு இரங்கி வாரையா (aiyA enakku irangi vAraiyA) : Oh Lord, will you please take pity and come down to see me?

இனிப் பிறந்து இறவாமல் (inip piRanthu iRavAmal) : Let me not go through the cycle of birth and death;

வேலினால் வினைக் கணங்கள் தூளதா எரித்து (vElinAl vinaik kaNangkaL thULathA eriththu) : for that, please shoot Your spear to destroy the mass of my bad deeds

உன்றன் வீடு தா (unRan veedu thA) : and grant me Your Kingdom of blissful liberation!

பரித்த அன்பர் கணமூடே மேவி (pariththa anbar gaNamUdE mEvi) : I should mingle with the crowd of all Your kind devotees. அன்பு நிறைந்த உன் அடியார் திருக்கூட்டத்தில் யானும் கலந்து,

யான் உனைப்பொல் சிந்தையாகவே களித்து (yAn unaippol sinthaiyAgavE kaLiththu) : My mind should become as pure as Yourself and rejoice, உன்னைப் போல பரிசுத்த உள்ளம் பெறவே, மகிழ்ச்சி கொண்டு

கந்த வேளெயாம் எனப் பரிந்து அருள்வாயே (kantha vELeyAm enap pa inthu aruLvAyE) : concluding that Lord KandhA is the only solace for me; for that, You will have to bestow Your grace on me! கந்த வேளே நமக்கு உற்ற துணையாகும் என்றிருக்க பரிந்து அருள்வாயாக.

காலினால் எனப் பரந்த சூரர் மாள வெற்றி கொண்ட (kAlinAl enap parantha sUrar mALa vetRi koNda ) : The demons, who had spread as if blown all over by the wind, died when You won the war, காற்றைப் போலப் பரவியிருந்த சூரர்கள் மாளும்படி வெற்றி கொண்ட,

கால பாநு சத்தி அங்கை முருகோனே (kAla bAnu saththi amgkai murugOnE) : wielding the Sakthi VEL (Spear of Energy) that You held in Your lovely hand, which was fierce like the Death-God and dazzling like the sun, Oh MurugA. காலனைப் போன்ற வலிமையும், கதிரவன் போன்ற பேரொளியும் அமைந்த ஆற்றல் மிகுந்த வேலாயுதத்தை அழகிய திருக்கரத்தில் தரித்த முருகப் பெருமானே!

காம பாணம் அட்டு அநந்த கோடி மாதரைப் புணர்ந்த காளை (kAma bANa mattu anantha kOdi mAtharaip puNarntha kALai ) : Krishna wedded thousands of women who were struck by the flowery arrows of Manmathan (Love God). மன்மதனின் மலர்க் கணைகளால் வருந்திய எண்ணற்ற மாதர்களைக் கலந்த திருமால் ஆகிய இடபத்தின் மீது

According to Vishnu Purana, Narakasura had imprisoned thousands of celestial and gandharva women at the peak of the Mount of MantharA. After slaying Narakasura, Krishna resued and brought these women to Dwaraka and married them. These women were the wives or daughters of kings whom Narakasura had defeated in various battles. Captivated by Krishna's courage, beauty and smile, all the women had taken a vow of marrying him alone if he succeeded in rescuing them. When Krishna killed Narakasura, they pleaded with Him to marry them, else they would be compelled to commit suicide as they will be treated as outcastes by the society. As this was prescribed by the prevailing Dharma, Krishna accepted all the princesses as his wives so that they lived an honorable life.

Krishna's marriage with 16000 wives is synonymous to raas leela where the lord manifested Himself in numerous forms and danced with all the gopis at the same time, with each gopi believing that he was dancing with her only. These women were rishis, sages, devotees, etc, of lord krishna/Vishnu in their previous births.

ஏறு கர்த்தன் எந்தை அருள்பாலா (yERu karththan enthai aruL bAlA) : He, as Vishnu, took the form of a Bull on whom mounted our Lord SivA; and You are that SivA's child!
Accoding to Siva Puranam, Lord SivA's chariot broke down when He was preparing to invade Thripuram. At that time, Vishnu took the form of Rishabha (Bull) and offered Himself as the vehicle for SivA to mount on. ஏறி அருளிய தலைவனும் எமது தந்தையும் ஆகிய சிவபெருமான் அருளிய பாலகரே,
திரிபுர சம்ஹாரத்துக்கு சிவன் எழுந்த தேர் அச்சு அறுந்து விழுந்த போது, தேர் நிலை கலங்க, திருமால் ரிஷப உருவத்தில் சிவபிரானைத் தாங்கினார்.

சேலை நேர் விழிக் குறம்பெண் ஆசை தோளுறப் புணர்ந்து (sElai nEr vizhik kuRam peN Asai thOLuRap puNarnthu) : Her eye is like a fish; She is the damsel of the KuRavAs; You fell in love with that VaLLi and hugged her shoulders! சேல் மீனைப் போன்ற கண்ணையுடைய குறப்பெண் வள்ளியை ஆசையுடன் அவள் தோள் பொருந்தச் சேர்ந்து உறைபவனே,

சீரை ஓது பத்தர் அன்பில் உறைவோனே (seerai Othu paththar anbil uRaivOnE) : You dwell in the love of Your devotees who praise Your glory!

தேவர் மாதர் சித்தர் தொண்டர் ஏக வேளுருக்கு உகந்த (thEvar mAthar siththar thoNdar Eka vEL urukku kantha) : The celestials, the women, the saints and the devotees all flock towards VeLUr (Vaiththeeswaran KOyil), which is Your favourite place!

சேவல் கேது சுற்று உகந்த பெருமாளே. (sEval kEthu sutRu kantha perumALE.) : You relish Your staff of the Rooster, Oh Great One! சேவற்கொடியுடன் பொருந்தி மகிழும் பெருமையில் மிக்கவரே! கேது (ketu) : a banner;
