Paraphrase

Pearls, other than those originating from oysters, are mentioned in several literary works such as Abhithana Sinthamani and in the Hindu scripture, "Sri Garuda Purana," where it explains the powers of several types of pearls derived from mammals and reptiles. Apart from the oysters, pearls are said to come from the forehead of elephants, hood of snakes, special kinds of bamboo, whales and even wild boars.

'முத்து பிறக்கும் இடங்கள்' என்று தமிழ் நூல்களில் சில பொருள்கள், இடங்கள் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. அபிதான சிந்தாமணி என்னும் நூலில் காணப்படுவது -
"முத்துச் சனிக்குமிடங்கள் - மதி, மேகம், சங்கு, சிப்பி, மீன், முதலை, உடும்பு, தாமரை, வாழை, கமுகு, கரும்பு, செந்நெல், மூங்கில், யானைக் கொம்பு, பன்றிக் கொம்பு, பசுவின் பல், நாகம், கொக்கு, நங்கையர் கழுத்து"

கழை முத்து மாலை (kazhai muththu mAlai) : The garland of pearls given by sugar canes, கரும்பு தரும் முத்தாலான மாலை,

புயல் முத்து மாலை (puyal muththu mAlai) : thi e garland of pearls made up of rain drops from the clouds, மேகம் தரும் மழைத்துளிகளால் ஆன மாலை,

கரி முத்து மாலை (kari muththu mAlai) : the garland of pearls yielded by the elephants, யானை தரும் முத்தாலான மாலை,

மலை மேவும் கடி முத்து மாலை (malai mEvum kadi muththu mAlai) : the garland of famous pearls found in the mountains, மலையிற் கிடைக்கும் சிறப்பான முத்தினால் ஆன மாலை, கடி: சிறப்பு மிகுந்த;

வளை முத்து மாலை (vaLai muththu mAlai) : the garland of pearls from conch shells, சங்கிலிருந்து கிடைக்கும் முத்தாலான மாலை, வளை: சங்கு;

கடல் முத்து மாலை (kadal muththu mAlai) : the garland of pearls gotten from the seas,

அரவு ஈனும் அழல் முத்து மாலை (aravu eenum azhal muththu mAlai) : the garland of hot pearls spat out by the snakes, அழல்: தகிக்கின்ற; அழல் முத்து: தகிக்கின்ற முத்து;

இவை முற்று மார்பின் அடைவொத்து உலாவ (ivai mutru mArbin adai vothu ulAva) : and so on; wearing all these garlands swaying on Your chest befittingly, இவையனைத்தும் முறையாகப் மார்பில் பொருந்தி புரண்டசைய;

அடியேன் முன் அடர் பச்சை மாவில் (adiyEn mun adar pachchai mAvil) : You must come before me, mounting the dark green horse-like peacock, அடர்பச்சை மா: அடர்ந்த பச்சை நிறமுள்ள குதிரையாகிய மயில்; மா: குதிரை;

அருளில் பெணோடும் அடிமைக் குழாமொடு அருள்வாயே (aruLiR peNOdum adimaik kuzhAmod aruLvAyE) : come with Your gracious consort VaLLi (representing the Power of Desire) and the assembly of Your devotees, and bless me.

மழை ஒத்த சோதி (mazhaiyoththa jOthi ) : She has the complexion of dark clouds; She is the bright effulgence, DEvi UmA;

குயில் தத்தை போலு (kuyil thaththai pOlum ) : She speaks sweet prattling words like the cuckoo and the parrot;

மழலைச் சொல் ஆயி எமை ஈனு (mazhalai chol Ayi emai eenu) : She is the Mother who gave birth to all of us;

மத மத்த நீல கள நித்த நாதர் மகிழ் சத்தி (madha maththa neela kaLa niththa nAthar magizh saththi) : She is Shakthi, the happy consort of our father, Lord SivA, who wears the golden Umaththai flower (on His tresses), who has blue-tinged neck and who is eternal; மதமத்தம்: பொன் ஊமத்தை; நீலகள(ம்) : நீலகண்டம்; களம்: கழுத்து; நித்த நாதர்: நிர்த்தமிடும் நாதர், நடராசர்;

ஈனு முருகோனே (eeNu murugOnE) : and You are the child of that PArvathi, Oh MurugA!

செழு முத்து மார்பின் அமுதத் தெய்வானை (sezhu muththu mArbin amudhath dheyvAnai) : She wears on her chest a garland of rich pearls; She is DEvayAnai, full of sweet nectar;

திரு முத்தி மாதின் மணவாளா (thiru muththi mAdhin maNavALA) : She is capable of granting blissful liberation; and You are her consort!

சிறையிட்ட சூரர் தளை வெட்டி (siRai itta sUrar thaLai vetti) : You severed the shackles of the celestials who were imprisoned by the demons.

ஞான திருமுட்ட மேவு பெருமாளே. (gnAna thiru mutta mEvu perumALE.) : Oh Wise One! You have Your abode in Thirumuttam, Oh Great One!
