Paraphrase

The poet bemoans the degenerate life that he is leading and beseeches the lord to take hold of his life.

The lines upto மகளிரோடு (magaLirOdu) describe the street girls who are full of deceit.

மனகபாட (mana kapAta) : The secretive whores, the doors of whose minds are closed; கதவால் அடைக்கப்பட்டது போன்ற ரகசிய மனம் உள்ளவர்களும், கபாடம் (kapAtam) : door;

பாடீர தன தராதர ரூப (pAteera thana dharAdharA rUpa) : their mountainous bosoms are covered with sandal paste; சந்தனப் பூச்சு அப்பிய மலை போன்ற மார்பகமுள்ள உருவத்தாரும், தராதர/धराधर(tharaathara) : mountain;

மதன ராச ராசீப சர கோப (madhana rAja rAjeeba sara kOpa) : being aroused by the angry flowery arrows flung by the God of Love (Manmathan), மன்மத ராஜனின் தாமரைமலர் அம்பு பாய்ந்த கோபத்துக்கு ஆளாகி, ராசீப சரம் = தாமரைப் பாணம்;

வருண பாதக ஆலோக (varuNa pAthaka AlOka) : they overlook the sin of cohabiting with men of any caste; குல வேற்றுமையால் வரும் பாவம் தனை பாராட்டாமல் எல்லாரோடும் சேர்பவர்களும், வருண/वर्ण (varuna) : caste; வருண பாதகம் (varuNa pAthagam) : வருண விதிகளை மீறுவதால் வரும் பாவம்; ஆலோகம்(aLokam) : ஆலோகனம், பார்வை;

தருண சோபித ஆகார (tharuNa sObitha AkAra) : they proudly display their youthful bodies; இளமை வாய்ந்த உடலைக் காட்டிக்கொண்டு இருப்பவருமான

மகளிரோடு சீராடி இதமாடிக் குனகுவேனை (magaLirOdu seerAdi idhamAdik kunagu vEnai) : I indulge in sensuous pleasures with these whores, feeling proud of my wealth, பொது மாதர்களோடு செல்வச் செருக்குடன் விளையாடியும் இன்பத்தில் திளைத்தும் காலம் கழிப்பவனும், குனகுவேன் (kunaguvEn) : கொஞ்சிக் காலம் கழிப்பவன்;

நாணாது தனகுவேனை (nANAdhu thanagu vEnai) : and flirt shamelessly! வெட்கம் இன்றிச் சரசம் செய்பவனும், தனகுதல் (thanaguthal) : சரசம் செய்தல்;

வீணான குறையனேனை (veeNAna kuRaiya nEnai) : I am a vagabond who wastes time like this; நாளை வீணாக்கும் குறையை உடையவனும்,

நாயேனை வினையேனைக் கொடியனேனை (nAyEnai vinaiyEnai kodiya nEnai) : I am the lowly dog, doing my bad deeds, and am very wicked. நாயைப்போன்றவனும், கொடுவினையாளனும், பொல்லாதவனும்,

ஓதாத குதலையேனை (OdhAdha kudhalai yEnai) : Without praising Your glory, I roam around speaking gibberish. உன்னைப் போற்றிப் புகழாது வெறும் கொச்சை மொழி பேசித் திரிபவனும்,

நாடாத குருடனேனை (nAdAdha kurudanEnai) : I am totally blind, having failed to seek You. உன்னை விரும்பித் தேடாத குருடனுமான என்னையும்

நீ ஆள்வது ஒரு நாளே (nee ALvadhu orunALE) : Yet, will You take me over one of these days? நீ ஆண்டருளும்படியான நாள் ஒன்று உண்டா?

அநக வாமனாகார முநிவராக மால் (anaga vAmanaAkAra munivarAga mAl ) : He took the form of an innocent and diminutive sage (VAmana); He is Vishnu; பாவமற்ற குறுமுநி வாமனராக அவதாரம் செய்த திருமால்

தேட அரிய தாதை மதுரேசன் தானேவ (thEda ariya thAdhai madhurEsan thAnEva ) : Your Father SivA who stood beyond Vishnu's reach was Lord ChokkanAthan of Madurai and He presented (to King PANdiyan) அவருக்கு எட்டாதவராய் நின்ற உன் தந்தை மதுரைச் சொக்கநாதனால் (பாண்டிய மன்னனுக்கு) அளிக்கப்பட்ட; தாதை = தந்தை;

அரிய சாரதாபீடம் அதனிலேறி (ariya sAradhA peetam adhanilEri eedERa) : a unique plank, the Seat of Sharada, on which You mounted; அருமையான சரஸ்வதியின் இருப்பிடமான சங்கப்பலகையில் ஏறி
சங்கப் பலகை 'சாரதா பீடம்' என்று குறிப்பிடப்படுகிறது. இந்தச் சாரதா பீடத்தில் முருகவேள் சிவபிரான் திருவுளப்படி இந்தச் சாரதாபீடத்தில் ருத்ரசன்மன் என்ற புலவராக அமர்ந்து சங்கப் புலவர்களுக்குள் ஏற்பட்ட கலகத்தைத் தீர்த்தருளியதாக வரலாறு.

ஈடேற அகில நாலும் ஆராயும் இளையோனே (akila nAlum ArAyum iLaiyOnE) : and protected all lives in this world, covering the four directions, by Your deep insight, Oh Young One!
Alternatively, You scrutinized the analysis of all the poets for the benefit of all lives in all the four directions, Oh Young One! நான்கு திக்கிலும் உள்ள உயிர்களை எல்லாம் ஆய்ந்து புரக்கும் இளையோனே! அல்லது (பீடத்தில்) ஏறி உலகத்தவர் உய்யும் பொருட்டு, நான்கு திசையோரும் அறியப் புலவ்ர்களின் உரையை ஆராய்ந்தவனே! ஈடேற = (உலகத்தார்) உய்ய;

கனக பாவனாகார பவள கோமளாகார (kanaga pAvanAkAra pavaLa kOmaLAkAra) : You have the purest body shining like gold and Your complexion is like the beautiful red coral! பொன் போன்ற தூய உடம்பினனே, பவளம் போன்ற அழகிய சிவந்த மேனியனே,

கலப சாமளாகார மயிலேறும் கடவுளே (kalaba sAmaLAkAra mayilERum kadavuLE) : : You are the Lord mounting the pretty-feathered and green Peacock! தோகை உடையதும், பச்சை நிறமானதுமான மயிலின் மீது ஏறும் கடவுளே,

க்ருபாகார கமல வேதனாகார ( krupAkAra kamala vEdhan AkAra) : Oh Compassionate One, You reside in the lotus of my heart in the form of Wisdom! அருள் வடிவோனே, இதயத் தாமரையில் பொருந்திய ஞான சொரூபனே, வேதனம் (vethanam) : அறிவு, knowledge; ஆகாரம் (AkAram) : வடிவம்;

கருணை மேருவே தேவர் பெருமாளே. (karuNai mEruvE dhEvar perumALE.) : You are the Mount MEru of Grace and the Lord of the celestials, Oh Great One! கருணைப் பெருமலையே, தேவர்களின் பெருமாளே.
