Paraphrase

Saint Arunagirinathar deplores that the world is full of futile quarrels, deception, swagger, domination, subjugation, and wanton violence to other living beings. He prays for Lord's feet that would extricate him from getting entangled in this web.

எத்தனை கலாதி சித்து அங்கு (eththanai kalAdhi chiththu angu) : How many clashes in this world! How many deceptive acts and juggleries! கலாத = கலகம்; சித்து = சித்துபோல் செய்யும் மாய வித்தைகள்;

எத்தனை வியாதி பித்து (eththanai viyAdhi piththam) : Numerous diseases and lunatic acts! பித்து = பித்தம் பிடித்த செயல்கள்;

அங்கெத்தனை சர அசரத்தின செடமான (angu eththnai charA charaththin jedamAna) : Countless births, of both animate and inanimate beings!

எத்தனை விடா வெருட்டு (eththanai vidA veruttu) : How many ruthless scary acts! எண்ணற்ற நீங்காத அச்சத்தைத் தரும் செயல்கள்;

அங்கெத்தனை வல் ஆண்மை (angeththanai valANmai) : How many vulgar display of manly power!

பற்றங்கு எத்தனை கொல் (patru angu eththanai kol) : How many types of desires! பற்று ( patru ) : attachment, desire;

ஊனை நித்தம் பசியாறல் (Unai niththam pasiyARal) : How many servings of meat to satiate my hunger everyday! ஊன் (Un ) : blood;

பித்து அனைய நான் அகட்டு உண்டு இப்படி கெடாமல் முத்தம் பெற்றிட (piththu anaiya nAn akattuNdu ippadi kedAmal muththam petrida ) : Instead of (living a mundane life by) filling my stomach like a crazy man, I want to seek liberation; பித்து பிடித்தவனான அடியன் வயிறு நிறைய சாப்பிட்டு வாழ்க்கையை இப்படி வீணடிக்காமல், அகடு = வயிறு; முத்தம் = முக்தி;

நினா சனத்தின் செயலான பெற்றியும் (ninA janaththin seyalAna petriyum ) : (and your feet) that which stands beyond the efforts of the multitudes of Your devotees; உன் அடியார்களாகிய திருத்தொண்டர்களின் அன்பு நெறிச் செயல்களை; பெற்றி = தன்மை; character, nature;

ஒராது நிற்கும் தத்த குரு தார நிற்கும் பெத்தமும் ஒராது நிற்கும் கழல் தாராய் ( orAdhu niRkum thaththa gurudhAra niRkum peththamum orAdhu niRkum kazhal thArAy) : grant me Your two feet which stands as the expansive bright luminous principle, OM, the PraNava ManthrA, and which cannot be comprehended by attachments and desires. உண்மைத் தன்மை இது என்று ஆராய முடியாமல் நிற்பதும், பரவிப் பிரகாசிக்கின்ற ஒளிமயமான ப்ரணவ மந்திரப் பொருளாக நிற்பதும், பாச பந்தங்களால் அறிவதற்கு அரிதாக நிற்பதுமான உன் கழல்களைத் தந்தருள்க . பெத்தம் ( peththam ) : பாச பந்தம், கட்டுப்பாடு; பந்தம் என்ற சொல்லே பெந்தம் என்றாகிப் பின் பெத்தம் எனத் திரிந்தது. பெத்தமும் ஒராது நிற்கும் ( peththamum orAdhu niRkum ) : incomprehensible through attachment; ஓராது ( Oraathu ) : incomprehensible; ஒராது நிற்கும் = யாராலும் உணர்தற்கு அரியதாக நிற்பதும்; தத்த குரு = பரவிப் பிரகாசிக்கின்ற ஒளிமயமான; தார நிற்கும் = ப்ரணவ மந்திரப் பொருளாக நிற்பதும்,

சித்தர்கள் நிடாதர் வெற்பின் கொற்றவர் சுவாமி பத்தர் திக்குகளொர் நால் இரட்டின் கிரிசூழச் (siththargaL nidAdhar veRpin kotravar suvAmi bakthar dhikkugaLor nAl irattin giri sUzha ) : when many sages(siddhas), hunters, kings and devotees coming from all eight directions march around the holy mountain in reverence; நிடா(ஷா)தர் (nidaathar ) : hunters; கொற்றவர் (kotravar) : king; நால் இரட்டு ( naal irattu ) : four two's or eight;

செக்கண் அரிமா கனைக்கும் சித் தணிகை வாழ் சிவப்பின் செக்கர் நிறமாய் இருக்கும் பெருமாளே. (chekkaN arimA kanaikkum sithhaNigai vAzh sivappin chekkar niRamA irukkum perumALE.) : Lions with red eyes are roaring in the Great Hill of Knowledge, ThiruththaNigai, which is Your abode, Oh Great Lord with a bright red complexion! சிவந்த கண்களையுடைய சிங்கம் ஒலி செய்யும் ஞானத் தணிகையம்பதியில் வாழ்கின்ற மிகச் சிவந்த நிறத்துடன் விளங்கும் முருகனே! அரிமா (arimaa) : lion; செக்கண் (chekkaN) : red eye;
