Paraphrase

காணாத தூர நீள் நாத வாரி (kANAdha dhUra neeNAdha vAri): The sea is stretching beyond the reach of the eyes, and the waves are making never-ending noise; கண்ணுக்கெட்டாத தூரம் பரந்து ஓயாத அலையோசை உள்ள கடலின்

காது ஆரவாரம் (kAdhAra vAram): and the din is killing her. வதைக்கின்ற ஆரவாரமும்,

அதன் பினாலே கால் ஆளும் வேளும் (adhan pinAlE kAlALum vELum): Following suit is Manmathan (Love God) with the southerly breeze as his chariot. அதன் பின்பாக, தென்றற் காற்றை தேர்போல் கொண்ட மன்மதனும்,

ஆலால நாதர் காலால் நிலாவும் (AlAla nAthar kAlAl nilAvum): Then there is the moon which was trampled under His feet by SivA who consumed the poison coming out of the milky ocean. கடலில் பிறந்த விஷத்தை உண்ட சிவன் காலால் தேய்த்த நிலவும்,
— தக்கன் யாகத்தில் நிலவு (சந்திரன்) வீரபத்திரருடைய காலால் தேய்க்கப்பட்டான்.

முனிந்து பூ மேல் நாணான தோகை நூலாடை சோர (munindhu bUmEl nANAna thOgai nUlAdai sOra): All these angrily conspire against her; on this earth, this poor girl, looking like a shy peahen, is standing alone in her tattered cotton saree.இவளைக் கோபிக்க, இந்தப் புவி மீது நாணம் கொண்ட மயில் போன்ற இப்பெண் நூல் புடைவை நெகிழ,

நாடோர்கள் ஏச அழிந்து (nAdOrgaL Esa azhindhu): The scandal-mongering of the women of the world is destroying her. நாட்டில் உள்ளோர் பழித்துரைக்க, அதனால் உள்ளம் அழிந்து

தானே நானா அபவாத மேலாக (thAnE nAnA pavAdha mElAga Aga): She herself is the centre of verbal abuses from all over. அவளே பலவித அவதூறுகள் மேலெழுந்து வெளிப்பட,

நாடோறும் வாடி மயங்கலாமோ (nAdORum vAdi mayangalAmO): Why should she suffer physically everyday (due to Your separation from her)? நாள்தோறும் வாட்டமடைந்து மயங்கலாமோ?

சோணாசல ஈச (sONAchalEsa): Oh, Lord of SONAchalam (thiruvaNNAmalai)! சோணாசலம் என்ற திருவண்ணாமலை ஈசனே,

பூண் ஆர நீடு தோள் ஆறும் ஆறும் விளங்கு நாதா (pUN Ara needu thOLARum ARum iLangu nAthA): You have adorned Your twelve broad shoulders with kadamba garlands, Oh Leader! அணிந்துள்ள கடம்பமாலை பன்னிரண்டு தோளிலும் விளங்குகின்ற நாதனே,

தோலாத வீர (thOlAdha veera): You are the warrior who has never known defeat! தோல்வியே அறியாத வீரனே,

வேலால் அடாத சூராளன் மாள வெகுண்ட கோவே (vElAl adAdha sUrALan mALa veguNda kOvE): Oh mighty King, with Your spear You angrily destroyed the powerful but immoral asura, SUran! உனது வேலைக் கொண்டு, தகாத செயல் செய்த சூரன் என்ற ஆண்மையாளன் மாளும்படியாக கோபித்துச் செலுத்திய தலைவனே, அடாத/அடுதல் இலாத(adaatha): அழிதல் இலாத அல்லது தகாத செய்கைகளைச் செய்த;

சேணாடர் லோகம் வாழ்மாதி யானை (sENAdar lOgam vAzhmAdhi yAnai:): DEvayAnai, the damsel who is worshipped by all DEvAs in heaven, விண்ணுலகில் வாழ்ந்த மாது தேவயானையின்

தீராத காதல் சிறந்த மார்பா (): theerAdha kAdhal siRandha mArbA: embraced Your glorious chest with unending love! நீங்காத காதல் நிறைந்த மார்பை உடையவனே,
