Paraphrase

வரி ஆர் கரும் கண் மடமாதர் மகவு (VariyAr karungkaN madamAdhar magavu) : Simple women having black eyes with lines in them, and children வரிகளையுடைய கரிய கண்களும் மடமையும் உடைய பெண்களின் மீதும் குழந்தைகளின் மீதும்,

ஆசை தொந்தம் அதுவாகி (Asai thondham adhuvAgi ) : (I am)entrenched by attachment (to women and children) ஆசை வைத்து அவர்களுடன் உறவுடையவனாகி,

இருபோது நைந்து மெலியாதே (irupOdhu naindhu meliyAdhE) : thinking of them (women and children) day and night causes me to become leaner and weaker. To avoid this

இருதாளின் அன்பு தருவாயே (iru thALin anbu tharuvAyE ) : kindly give me the love of your twin feet.

பரிபாலனம் செய்து அருள்வோனே (paripAlanam seydhu aruLvOnE) : You protect and govern us with grace

பரமேசுரன் தன் அருள்பாலா (paramEsuran than aruL bAlA) : You are the son of Lord Shiva

அரிகேசவன் தன் மருகோனே (arikEsavan than marugOnE ) : and the nephew of Lord Vishnu (who erases the sins and is the slayer of the demon Kesi); பாவத்தை நீக்குபவரும் கேசி என்ற அரக்கனைக் கொன்றவருமாகிய நாராயணமூாத்தியின் திருமருகரே!
கம்சன் கண்ணனைக் கொல்லும்படி கேசி என்ற கொடிய அரக்கனை அனுப்பினான். கேசியும் குதிரையாக உருமாறி கண்ணனைக் கொல்ல ஓடி வந்தது. அக் குதிரையின் காலைப் பிடித்து சுழற்றி அதன் வாயைக் கிழித்துக் கொன்றார் கண்ணன். கேசியைக் கொன்றதால் கேசவன் என்ற பெயர் பெற்றார்.
