கடிமா மலர்க்குள் இன்பம் உள வேரி கக்கு நண்பு தரு மா கடப்பு அமைந்த தொடைமாலை (kadi mA malarkkuL inbam uLa vEri kakku naNbu tharu mA kadappa maindha thodai mAlai) : of all the fragrant flowers, dripping the sweetest honey is the garland of kadappa flowers that confers friendship; கடி = வாசனை; வேரி கக்கு = தேன் துளிப்பதும்; நண்பு தரு = அருச்சிப்பதனால் இறைவனுடைய நட்பைத்தர வல்லதும் ஆகிய; மா கடப்பு அமைந்த தொடைமாலை = பெரிய கடப்ப மலர்களாகக் கொண்டு புனைந்த திருமாலைகளை;

கனமேரு ஒத்திடும் பன் இருமா புயத்து அணிந்த கருணாகர ப்ரசண்ட கதிர்வேலா ( gana mEru oththidum panniru mA buyath aNindha karuNAkara prachaNda kadhirvElA) : adorning it on the twelve shoulders that are strong as the renowned meru mountain is the kind lord who possesses the fierce and radiant spear. அடிமோனை சொற்கிணங்க உலகாம் உவப்ப என்று உன் அருளால் அளிக்க உகந்த பெரியோனே (adimOnai soRkiNanga ulagAm uvappa endru un aruLAl aLikku ukandha periyOnE) : synchronising with meter and rhyme, You aptly chose the words "ulagam uvappa" and happily blessed him with those opening words, Oh Wise One!அடி, மோனை, சொல் என்னும் யாப்புக்கு இணங்குமாறு "உலகம் உவப்ப" (என்று தொடங்கும் திருமுருகாற்றுப்படை) என்று தேவரீர் திருவருளால் அடியெடுத்துத் தந்த கந்தப் பெருமானே! பெரியவரே!

அடியேன் உரைத்த புன்சொல் அதுமீது நித்தமும் தண் அருளே தழைத்து உகந்து வரவேணும் ( adiyEn uraiththa punchol adhu meedhu niththamum thaN aruLE thazhaithu ugandhu varavENum) : Kindly come and shower your cool grace on my worthless utterances;

செடி நேர் உடற் குடம்பை தனின்மேவி உற்று (chedi nEr udaR kudambai thanin mEvi utRu) : this shell of a body that houses many sins; செடிநேர்( chedi nEr ): housing sins; பாவத்திற்கு உறைவிடமாகிய பறவை முட்டைக்கு நிகராகிய உடம்பில் விரும்பி பொருந்தி உறைந்திருந்து; செடி நேர் = (பாவச் செயல்களே) அடர்த்தியாக நிறைந்துள்ள, dense; உடற் குடம்பை = உடல் என்னும் கூட்டில்; குடம்பை = கூடு; )

இடிந்த படிதான் அலக்கண் இங்கண் உறலாமோ ( idiindha padidhAn alakkaN ingaN uRalAmO) : must it suffer like this? Here the body is compared to the egg shell of a bird. The egg breaks one day and the bird flies away, just like the life flies away from the body, leaving it dead. முட்டை திடீரென்று உடைந்த படி, இவ்விடத்தில் மரணமாகிய துன்பத்தை அடியேன் அடையலாமோ? அலக்கண் = துன்பம்; முட்டையும் அதனுள் பறவையும் ஒன்றாகவே பிறந்து, பறவை வளர்ந்தபின் முட்டையை உடைத்துக்கொண்டு பறந்துபோய் விடுகின்றது. உயிர் பறவைக்கும் உடம்பு முட்டைக்கும் ஒப்பாகும்.
