இயல் இசையில் உசித வஞ்சிக்கு அயர்வாகி (iyal isaiyil uchitha vanjikku ayarvAgi) : Enamored of women proficient in literature and music, உடல் அமைப்பிலும் இசைப் பயிற்சியிலும் மேன்மைப் பெற்றுள்ள கொடிபோன்ற இடையையுடைய பெண்ணின்பால் மயக்கத்தை அடைந்து

இரவு பகல் மனது சிந்தித்து உழலாதே (iravu pagal manadhu chindhiththu uzhalAdhE) : I languish day and night in their thoughts; instead,

உயர் கருணை புரியும் இன்ப கடல் மூழ்கி (uyar karuNai puriyum inba kadal mUzhgi) : (bless me so that) I drown in the sea of ecstasy of infinite and eternal compassion

உனை எனது உளம் அறியும் அன்பை தருவாயே (unai enadhuL aRiyum anbai tharuvAyE) : and, by Your grace, realize You within me.

மயில் தகர் கல் இடையர் அந்த தினை காவல் (mayil thagar kal idaiyar andha thinai kAval) : The gypsy girl guarding the 'thinai' field of the hunters in the mountain range where peacocks and sheep roam; மயில்களும் ஆடுகளும் நிறைந்து வாழ்கின்ற மலையினிடம் வசிக்கின்ற வேடர்களுடைய தினைப்புனத்தைக் காவல் புரிந்த தகர்(thagar) : ஆடு; கல் இடையர்(kal idaiyar) = மலையிடை வாழும் வேடர்கள்

வனச குற மகளை வந்தித்து அணைவோனே (vanaja kuRa magaLai vandhiththu aNaivOnE) : you embrace the lotus-like gypsy girl; திருமகள் போன்ற அழகு மிகுந்த வள்ளியம்மையாரை வணங்கி மணந்து அருள் புரிந்தவரே!

Valli, the hunter girl, was guarding the heart that represents the millet field against the attack of birds that represent the illusion caused by the five senses. Moved by compassion for the soul, Murugan hugs Valli, saying, “I bow to you, marry me”. We can explain this using the parlance of Yoga also. Valli represents the kundalini shakti that rises up like a creeper. Murugan lifts her from the mooladhara and raises her to his level and hugs her with love.
ஜீவான்மாவாகிய வள்ளிநாயகியார் ஐம்புலன்களாகிய வேடுவர் குலத்தில் தோன்றி, நெஞ்சமாகிய புனத்தில், ஞானப்பயிராகியத் தினையை, மாயாமலமாகியப் பறவைகள் அழிக்காவண்ணம் காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்க, அடியார்க்கு எளியவராகிய எந்தை கந்தவேள் விரைந்து வந்து, தன்னையுணராத வள்ளியை, “உன்னை நான் கும்பிடுகிறேன் என்னை மணந்து கொள்” என்று இதமாக கூறி ஆட்கொண்டனர். இதன் உட்பொருள், ஆன்மாவின் மீதுள்ள கருணையால் இரங்கி வந்து எளிதாக நின்றான்ம் என்பது. இன்னொரு விதமாகவும் கூறலாம். வள்ளி கொடிபோல் சுற்றிக் கொண்டிருக்கக் கூடிய குண்டலினி சக்தி. அவளை மூலாதாரத்தில் இருந்து மேலெழுப்பி தன் நிலைக்கு உயர்த்தி அணைத்து கொள்கிறான் முருகன்.

கயிலை மலை அனைய செந்தில் பதி வாழ்வே (kayilai malai anaiya sendhil padhi vAzhvE) : You live in Tiruchendur which is like the Kailasha mountain in stature;

கரி முகவன் இளைய கந்த பெருமாளே.(kari mugavan iLaiya kandha perumALE.) : You are the younger brother of the elephant-faced Vinayaka.
