பாரியான கொடை கொண்டலே திரு வாழ் விசால தொடை திண் புயா ( pAriyAna kodai kondalE thiru vAzh visAla thodai thiN buyA ) : "Like Paari, you generously shower charity like the cloud showering rain! You wear on Your broad shoulders a thick garland in which Goddess Lakshmi resides! திரு ( thiru ) : Lakshmi; பாரி வள்ளல் போன்ற கொடை மேகமே! இலக்குமி வாசம் செய்யும் பெரிய மாலையைப் புனைந்த திண்ணிய புயங்களை உடையவனே!

எழு பாரும் ஏறு புகழ் கொண்ட நாயக அபிராம ( ezhu pArum ERu pugazh konda nAyaga abirAma) : Your fame extends to all the seven worlds, Oh handsome leader! ஏழு லோகங்களிலும் எட்டியுள்ள புகழைக் கொண்ட நாயகனே! அழகனே!

பாவலோர்கள் கிளைக்கு என்றும் வாழ்வு அருள் சீல ஞால விளக்கு இன்ப சீவக (pAvalOrgaL kiLaikku endrum vAzhvaruL seela nyAla viLakku inba jeevaga ) : You always provide prosperous life to the entire clan of poets like the righteous lamp of the world! You give happiness like Jeevaka. ( Jeevaka, the legendary physician and surgeon, figures in the Buddhist literature. He treated Lord Buddha and became his disciple. He also donated resting places for the Buddhist monks.)
பாடவல்ல புலவர் கூட்டத்துக்கு என்றும் வாழ்வை அருளும் நல்லொழுக்கம் வாய்ந்த பூ மண்டல விளக்கே! இன்பம் தரும் ஜீவகனே! ஞால விளக்கு (nyAla viLakku ) : source of light for removing the darkness of the world; உலகத்தின் இருளைப் போக்குகின்ற தீபம்; இன்ப சீவக ( inba jeevaga) : இன்பம் தரும் சீவகனே! சீவகன் என்ற அரசன் சீவக சிந்தாமணி என்ற காப்பியத்தின் கதாநாயகன். புத்த பெருமானுடைய சீடனும் வைத்தியனும் ஆவான். பல அறச் செயல்களை செய்தவன் ;

பாக சாதன உத்துங்க மானத என ஓதி ( bAga sAdhana uththunga mAnadha ena Odhi) : You are a famous king like IndrA! You have a pure mind/ You live in the minds of pure people!" - with these expressions, பாக சாதனன்(bAga sAdhana) : இந்திரன், பாகனைக் கொன்ற காரணத்தால் பாகசாதனன் என பெயர்; உத் = மேலான, துங்கம் = தூய்மை, மானதன் = மனத்துள் இருப்பவன்; நாட்டுமக்கள் மனம் கோயிலாக் கொண்டு தெய்வமாக வாழ்பவன் என்ற பொருளைத் தரும்.)

சீரதாக எடுத்து ஒன்று மா கவி பாடினாலும் இரக்கம் செ(ய்)யாது உரை சீறுவார் கடையில் சென்று தாம் அயர்வுற வீணே ( seeradhAga eduththu ondru mAkavi pAdinAlum irakkam seyAdhu urai seeRuvAr kadaiyil sendru thAm ayarvuRa veeNE) : even if they sing a great song with the choicest words, they are brawled at without mercy; going in vain to the doors of such people and getting exhausted,

சேய பா வகையை கொண்டு போய் அறியாமலே கமரில் சிந்துவார் ( sEya pA vagaiyai koNdu pOy aRiyAmalE kamaril sindhuvAr) : is like some poets bringing exquisite compositions of different kinds and merely pour them into the drain without realizing what they are doing. கமர் (kamar) : நிலப் பிளப்பு, பள்ளம்;

சிலர் சேயனார் மனதில் சிந்தியார் அருகு உறலாமோ ( silar sEyanAr manadhil sindhiyAr arugu uRalAmO) : Is it worth going near those who stay far away from those who solicit them (சேயனார் meaning those who stand at a distance) and have no kind thoughts in their mind? சேயனார் = (இரப்போர்க்குத்) தூரத்தில் நிற்பவர்; மனதில் சிந்தியார் = (இரக்கம் காட்ட) மனதில் கூட சிந்திக்க மாட்டார்கள்; சேயனார் - குழந்தை அறிவினர், சேயை முருகவேளை (மனதிற் சிந்தியாதவர்) எனவும் பொருள் கொள்ளலாம். சேயனார் can also mean Skanda; thus the lines express the idea: "Should I ever go near those who don't think of Muruga?"

ஆரு நீர்மை மடுக்கண் கரா நெடு வாயில் நேர் பட உற்று அன்று மூலமே என (Aru neermai madukkaN karA nedu vAyil nErpada utRu andRu mUlame ena ) : Caught in the large mouth of a crocodile in the midst of a water-filled pond, he (the elephant) screamed "Oh, the primordial Lord!" that day and மை மடுக் கண் = கரிய மடுவில்;

ஆரவார மத தந்தி தான் உய்ய அருள் மாயன் (AravAra madha thandhi thAn uya aruL mAyan) : was liberated by the mystic Vishnu who came graciously, hearing the loud outcry of that enraged elephant GajEndran;

ஆதி நாராணன் நல் சங்க பாணியன் ஓதுவார்கள் உள்ளத்து அன்பன் மா தவன் ஆன நான் முகன் நல் தந்தை சீதரன் மருகோனே ( Adhi nAraNa nal changa pANiyan OthuvArgaL uLaththu anban mAthavan Ana nAnmugan nal thandhai seedharan marugOnE) : You are the nephew of that Vishnu (described in the previous lines), the pristine Lord NArAyanan who holds the PAnchajanyam conch shell in His hand, is loving to those who pray to Him and is the good father of the four-faced Yogi BrahmA, and holds Lakshmi in His heart;

வீர சேவக உத்தண்டம் தேவ குமார ஆறிரு பொன் செம் கை நாயக (veera sEvaga uththaNda dhEva kumAra ARiru poR chengai nAyaga) : You are the Lord's Son with immense valour, prowess and strength. You are the Lord with twelve beautiful reddish hands!

வீசு தோகை மயில் துங்க வாகனம் உடையோனே ( veesu thOgai mayil thunga vAhanam udaiyOnE) : Your vehicle is the great peacock whose feathers unfurl majestically!

வீறு காவிரி உட்கொண்ட சேகரனான சேவகன் நல் சிந்தை மேவிய (veeRu kAviri uL koNda sEkaranAna sEvaka naR chindhai mEviya) : ParAkraman, the King and Protector of KalisaiyUr, where the famous river KAveri flows, always thinks of You, Oh Lord! வீறு = விளங்கும்; காவிரி உட்கொண்ட = காவிரி நதியைத் தன்னிடத்தே கொண்ட; சிகரம் = உச்சி, முடி, தலை; சேகரன் = அரசன்; சேகரனான சேவகன் = (கலிசையூர்த்) தலைவனான வலிமை கொண்ட சேவகன்; கலிசைவரு சேவகன்: அருணகிரியாருக்கு உற்ற நண்பனாகவும், கலிசை என்னும் தலத்தின் அரசனும், முருகனடியானுமான அரசன்;

வீரை வாழ் பழநி துங்க வானவர் பெருமாளே. ( veerai vAzh pazhani thunga vAnavar perumALE) : You reside in Veerainagar as well as in Pazhani! You are the Lord of the pure Celestials, Oh Great One!
