திரண்டொ றுக்கும்	வசையாலே
தினகர னெனவே லையிலே
சிவந்து திக்கும்	மதியாலே

மதன்தொ டுக்குங்	கணையாலே
புளகித முலையா ளலையா
மனஞ் சலித்தும்	விடலாமோ
ஒருமலை யிருகூ றெழவே
யுரம்பு குத்தும்	வடிவேலா
ஒளிவளர் திருவே ரகமே
யுகந்து நிற்கும்	முருகோனே
அருமறை தமிழ்நூ லடைவே
தெரிந்து ரைக்கும்	புலவோனே

Paraphrase

The first four lines of this verse are set in the nayaka-nayaki bhava. The women on the street taunt "What is the use of your love for Muruga?" The traditional belief is that the full moon, like the sun or the alahaala poison from the milky ocean, torments the love-lorn.

தெருவினில் நடவா மடவார் திரண்டு ஒறுக்கும் வசையாலே (theruvinil nadavA madavAr thiraNd oRukkum vasaiyAlE) : Due to the scoldings of the women congregating an d walking down the streets,

தினகரன் என வேலையிலே சிவந்து உதிக்கும் மதியாலே (dhinakaran ena vElaiyilE sivandhu dhikkum madhiyAlE) : due to the scorching heat and light emanating from the red moon as if it were the sun rising above the sea, ; வேலை (vElai) : sea;

பொரு சிலை வளையா இளையா மதன் தொடுக்கும் கணையாலே (porusilai vaLaiyA iLaiyA madhan thodukkum kaNaiyAlE) : and due to the arrows of flowers shot by Manmathan (Love God) from his bow of sugarcane determined to fight me, சிலை (silai) : bow; கணை (kaNai) : arrow;

புளகித முலையாள் அலையா மனம் சலித்தும் விடலாமோ (puLakitha mulaiyAL alaiyA manan saliththum vidalAmO) : should I, with my exhilarated (with desire) bosom get dejected?

ஒரு மலை இரு கூறு எழவே உரம் புகுத்தும் வடிவேலா (orumalai iru kUR ezhavE uram puguththum vadivElA) : You pierced the unique and mysterious mount (Krouncha) into two parts and also the heart of Tharuka asuran with Your Spear! உரம் (uram) : heart;

ஒளி வளர் திருவேரகமே உகந்து நிற்கும் முருகோனே (oLivaLar thiru EragamE ugandhu niRkum murugOnE ) : You chose Your abode at SwAmimalai which is bright and luminous!
