Paraphrase

சாந்தமில் மோக எரி காந்தி (sAnthamil mOhaveri kAnthi) : The fire of unrelenting lust scorches me, பொறுமை இல்லாத மோகத்தினால் உண்டாகிய நெருப்பின் சூடு காந்தவும்,

அவா அனில மூண்டு ( ava anila mUNdu) : uncontrolled desire kicks up a storm in my mind, ஆசையாகிய பெருங்காற்று மிகுந்து வீசவும்,

அவியாத சமய விரோத சாங்கலை வாரிதியை நீந்தவொணாது (aviyAdha samaya virOdha sAngalai vAridhiyai) : and unable to swim across the sea of religious differences that cause inextinguishable enmity, ஒரு போதும் ஓயாத, சமய வெறியால் வாதிட்டுப் பகை கொள்ளச் செய்யும் அழிகின்ற மதசாத்திரம் என்னும் பெரும் சமுத்திரத்தை நீந்திக் கடக்க முடியாமல், சாங்கலை, சாம் கலை(sAngalai) : the perishable religious texts; வாரிதி (vaarithi) : sea;

உலகர் தாந்துணை யாவரென (ulagar thAnthuNai Avar ena) : I believed that people in this world (wife, children, family and friends) are the only support!

மடவார் மேல் ஏந்திள வார் முளரி சாந்தணி மார்பினொடு தோய்ந்து உருகா (madavAr mEl Endhu iLa vAr muLari sAndhaNi mArbinodu thOyndhurugA ) : Indulging in the pleasures of women, thinking about embracing their bodice-clad, pretty young lotus-like bosoms splashed with vermillion and sandal paste, இள வார்(iLa vaar) : young and wearing a bodice (kachchu); முளரி (muLari) : lotus;

அறிவு தடுமாறி ஏங்கிட (aRivu thadumARi Engida) : I lost my balance of judgement and became very desperate.

ஆருயிரை வாங்கிய காலன் வசம் யான் தனி போய் விடுவது இயல்போ தான் (Aruyirai vAngiya kAlanvasam yAnthani pOyviduva dhiyalpOthAn) : In the end, my precious life would get snatched away by Yaman (Death-God), leaving me all alone. Is this a fitting end to me?

காந்தளின் ஆனகர (kAndhaLi nAnakara) : Soft arms like the daffodils (kAnthaL), காந்தள் மலரைப் போன்ற மென்மையான திருக்கரங்களை உடையவளும்,

மான் தரு கான மயில் காந்த (mAn tharu gAna mayil kAntha) : you are the husband of Valli, the peahen who was delivered by Lakshmi in the disguise of a deer in the forest; மான் பெற்ற மயில் போன்ற வள்ளி பிராட்டியாருடைய தலைவரே! மான் என்பது இலக்குமி; மயில் என்பது வள்ளியம்மை; வள்ளி மலையில் தவம் புரிந்து கொண்டிருந்த திருமாலின் அவதாரமாகிய சிவ முனிவருக்கு முன்னே இலக்குமி தேவி மான் வடிவு தாங்கிவர, அம்முனிவர் கண்ணாற் புணர, மான் கருக்கொண்டு பச்சைப் பசுங் குழவியை வள்ளிக் குழியில் ஈன்றது.

விசாக சரவணவேளே (visAka saravaNavELE) : You manifested as a Luminous Light on a VishAkA day, Oh SaravaNabhava,

காண் தகு தேவர்பதி ஆண்டவனே (kAN thagu dhEvar padhi ANdavanE) : You redeemed the DEvAs' Capital city AmarAvathi that is worthy of admiration, and ruled it! பார்க்க அழகிய தேவர் தலைநகர் அமராவதியை மீட்ட ஆண்டவனே, தேவர் பதி (dEvar pathi) : the city of the devas; Amaravathi; காண்டகு/காண தகு (kaaNa thagu) : worthy of seeing, admirable;

சுருதி ஆண் தகையே (surudhi AN thagaiyE ) : All the scriptures praise You as the most valorous (masculine) and competent one! வேதம் புகழும் ஆண்மையும் தகுதியும் அமைந்தவனே,

இப மின் மணவாளா (ibamin maNavALA) : You are the consort of DEvayAnai, who is bright as a creeper of lightning, and who was reared by AirAvatham, the White Elephant of IndrA! இபம்(ibam) : elephant, Airavatha;

வேந்த குமார குக (vEndha kumAra guha) : Oh King! Oh youthful KumArA! Oh GuhA, who always dwells in the cave of my heart!

சேந்த மயூர ( sEndha mayUra ) : Oh Virtuous One, with Peacock as Your vehicle!

வட வேங்கட மாமலையில் உறைவோனே (vada vEnkada mAmalaiyil uRaivOnE ) : You reside in the huge mountain of ThiruvEngkadam,

வேண்டிய போது அடியர் வேண்டிய போகமது வேண்ட ( vENdiya pOdhu adiyar vENdiya bOgamadhu vENda ) : Whenever Your devotees seek whatever boons they desire from You, அவர்கள் விரும்பிக் கேட்ட போக பாக்கியங்களை உன்னிடம் விண்ணப்பிக்க,

வெறாது உதவு பெருமாளே. ( veRadhudhavu perumALE ) : You grant them ungrudgingly and exactly as they sought, Oh Great One! வெறுக்காமல் அவர்களுக்குத் தந்து அருள் புரிகின்ற பெருமாளே.
