பாட்டில் உருகிலை கேட்டும் உருகிலை (pAttil urugilai kEttum urugilai) : Oh mind, you do not soften, either contemplating over the essence of songs or on hearing them,

கூற்று வருவழி பார்த்தும் உருகிலை (kUtru varu vazhi pArththum urugilai) : You do not thaw with devotion to God even after seeing Yama's approach.

பாட்டை அநுதினம் ஏற்றும் அறிகிலை (pAttai anudhinam Etrum aRgilai) : Despite facing all the miseries everyday, You do not realise the truth. பாட்டை - துன்பத்தை,

தினமானம் பாப்பணியன் அருள் வீட்டை விழைகிலை (dhinamAnam pAppaNiyan aruL veettai vizhaigilai: You don't seek everyday the blissful salvation granted by Lord SivA who wears the serpents on His tresses; பாப்பணியன்/பா(ம்)பு அணியன் (pAmbu aNiyan/pAppaNiyan) : One who wears the serpent; Shiva;

நாக்கின் நுனிகொடு ஏத்த அறிகிலை (nAkkin nunikodu Eththa aRigilai) : You do not know how to utter words of praise to the Lord, at least with the tip of your tongue.

பாழ்த்த பிறவியில் ஏற்ற மனது (pAzhththa piRaviyil Etra manadhu) : Despite taking many miserable births in this world, oh my mind!

நல் வழிபோக மாட்டம் எனுகிறை (nal vazhi pOga mAttam enugiRai) : You do not want to go the righteous path;

கூட்டை விடுகிலை (kUttai vidugilai) : You do not want to forsake the cage/prison called the body;

ஏட்டின் விதிவழி ஓட்டம் அறிகிலை (Ettin vidhi vazhi Ottam aRigilai) : You do not also know which way the path which the destiny, as written on the leaf of your fate, is taking you.

பார்த்தும் இனியொரு வார்த்தை அறைகுவன் இதுகேளாய் (pArththum ini oru vArththai aRaiguvan idhu kELAy) : Witnessing your plight, I offer a few words; please listen to me.

புகழ் ஏத்த வாக்கும் உனதுள நோக்கும் அருளுவன் (vAkkum unadhuLa nOkkum aruLuvan Eththa pugazh ) : He is the gracious one who will grant you appropriate words to praise His glory and the ability to see His vision. (புகழ் ஏத்த வாக்கும்) அவன் புகழை ஏத்துவதற்கு நல்லவாக்கையும், உனது உள்ளத்தில் நல்ல கருத்தையும் அருள்புரிவான்.

அடியார்க்கும் எளியனை வாழ்த்த (adiyArkkum eLiyanai vAzhththa ) : He is easily accessible to His devotees and if you sing His Glory,

இருவினை நீக்கு முருகனை மருவாயோ (iruvinai neekku muruganai maruvAyO) : Lord Murugab would remove both the good and bad karma. Contemplate on Him. மருவாயோே = நீ சேரமாட்டாயோ?

ஆட்டி வட வரை வாட்டி (Atti vadavarai vAtti) : He makes the entire universe dance. He bent like a bow the the mountain in the north (Meru), making it distressed; எல்லா உலகங்களையும் ஆட்டி வைப்பவராகிய சிவபெருமான் வடமேருகிரியை வருத்தி வில்லாக வளைத்து,

அரவொடு பூட்டி திரிபுர மூட்டி (aravodu pUtti thiripura mUtti) : He tied the serpent VAsuki as the bow's string and set fire to Thiripuram. வாசுகி என்னும் பாம்பை நாணாகக் கட்டி, திரிபுரத்தில் தீயை மூட்டி வேக வைத்து,

மறலியின் ஆட்டம் அற சரண் நீட்டி ( maraliyin Atta maRa saraN neetti) : He extended His foot and kicked Yama to subdue his arrogance (and protect Markandeya);

மதனுடல் திருநீறாய் ஆக்கி (madhan udal thiruneeRAy Akki) : He burnt down the body of Manmatha into ashes.

மகம் அதை வீட்டி ஒருவனை ஆட்டின் முகம் அதை நாட்டி (magam adhai veetti oruvanai Attin mugamadhai nAtti) : He destroyed the yagna of Dakshaka and attached goat's head on his body. மகம் (magam) : yagna or fire sacrifice; வீட்டி (வீழ்த்தி) (veetti/veezhththi) : destroy;

மறைமகளார்க்கும் வடுவுற வாட்டும் உமையவன் அருள்பாலா (maRaimagaL Arkkum vaduvuRa vAttum umaiyavan aruLbAlA) : He inflicted injuries on Saraswathi, the Goddess of Scriptures; He is the consort of UmAdEvi, and You are the son of that Lord SivA! உமையவன் (Umaiavan) : Shiva; மறைமகள் (maraimagaL) : Saraswati;

சீட்டை எழுதி வையாற்றில் எதிருற ஓட்டி (seettai ezhudhi vaiyAtril edhiruRa Otti) : He (Sambanthan) wrote the sacred ManthrA (pathigam staring with 'Vazhga anthaNar') on a palm-leaf and set it against the current on River Vaigai; வாழ்க அந்தணர் என்று திருப்பாசுரத்தை எழுதிய சீட்டை வையை யாற்றில் எதிரேறுமாறு ஓட்டியும்,

அழல் பசை காட்டி (azhal pasai kAtti) : but the leaf remained green without burning even when set on fire, and நெருப்பில் இட்ட ஏடு பச்சையாக இருக்கும்படி காட்டியும், ப(ச்)சை (pa(ch)chai) : green;

சமணரை சீற்றமொடு கழுவேற்ற அருளிய குருநாதா (samaNarai seetramodu kazhu Etra aruLiya gurunAthA ) : He angrily sent the ChamaNas (who lost in the debate) to the gallows; You are that Great Thirugnana Sambanthar, Oh Great Master!

தீர்த்த எனது அகம் ஏட்டை உடன் நினை ஏத்த (theerththa enadhu agam Ettai udan ninai Eththa) : Oh Immaculate One! In order that my mind worships You eagerly, தீர்த்த = தூயவரே; ஏட்டை = ஆசை, விருப்பம்; நினை ஏத்த = உம்மையே புகழும்படி,

அருளுடன் நோக்கி அருளுதி (aruLudan nOkki aruLudhi) : kindly bless me with compassion!

தீர்த்த மலைநகர் காத்த சசிமகள் பெருமாளே (theerththa malai nagar kAththa sasimagaL perumALE.) : You are the protector of this place known as Theerththa Malai! You are the Lord of DEvayAnai, the daughter of IndrANi, Oh Great One!
