ராகம் : காபி

நாதா குமரா நம என்று அரனார்
ஓதாய் என ஓதியதெப் பொருள்தான்
வேதா முதல் விண்ணவர் சூடும் மலர்ப்
பாதா குறமின் பதசே கரனே!	36

nAdhA kumarA nama endRu aranAr
OdhAi ena Odhiyadhu epporUl thAn?
vEdhA mudhal viNNavar sUdumalarp
pAdhA kuRamin pAdhasEgaranE!	36

What is the meaning of the Sacred (pranava) mantra which You graciously expounded to Lord Shiva, who reverentially called you, "Natha, Kumara" and said, "Teach me"? Lord, You have red lotus-like Sacred Feet, which Brahmaa and the other celestials wear on the top of their heads, whereas You have the sacred feet of the hunter's Daughter Valli, whose waist is slender as a lightning, over Your Head!

கிரிவாய் விடுவிக் ரமவேல் இறையோன்
பரிவா ரம்எனும் பதமே வலையே
புரிவாய் மனனே பொறையாம் அறிவால்
அரிவாய் அடியோடும் அகந்தையையே!	37

girivAi vidu vikrama vEl iRaiyOn
parivAram enum padham mEvalaiyE
purivAi mananE poRaiyAm aRivAl
arivAi adiyOdum agandhaiyaiyE!	37

"O mind! strive to attain the status of family member or associate of the Lord, Who aimed the powerful Vel on the (Krauncha) mountain; With patience and serene Knowledge cut off the ego along with its root. பொறை(poRai): patience;

ஆதாளியை ஒன் றறியே னை அறத்
தீதாளியை ஆண் டதுசெப் புமதோ
கூதாள கிராத குலிக் கிறைவா
வேதாள கணம் புகழ் வேலவனே!	38

AdhALiyai ondRu aRiyEnai aRath
theedhALiyai ANdadhu seppumadhO
kUdhALa kirAdhakulikku iRaivA
vEdhALa gaNam pugazh vElavanE!	38

O Lord, I indulge in boastful and useless talk; I am utterly ignorant; yet You graciously accepted this evil natured person! How can I explain this merciful act of Yours! O, Lord, who is adorned with the garland of koothalam! You are the Husband of the maiden (Valli) of the hunter tribe! You are the God, who holds the lance, and You are adored by hordes of demons ! ஆதாளி(AthaLi): One who indulges in vain or useless talk;

மாஏழ் சனனம் கெட மாயை விடா
மூஏடணை என்று முடிந்திடுமோ
கோவே குறமின் கொடித்தோள் புணரும்
தேவே சிவசங்கர தேசிகனே!	39

mA Ezh sananam keda mAyai vidA
mU EdaNai endRu mudindhidumO
kOvE kuRamin kodiththOL puNarum
dhEvE sivasangkara dhEsiganE!	39

O, Lord! When will the three kinds of never ending desires (for earth, woman, and gold) caused by Maya come to an end, so that the long cycle of sevenfold-birth can be removed? You are the Great King ruling the world! O, God! You embrace the shoulders of Valli, who is of hunters' clan, and is like the tender lightning-like creeper! You are the Lord, who was the Preceptor to Lord Shiva! மூ ஏடணை(moo EdaNai) : three desires, viz, மண் or land/earth; பெண் or women; பொன் or gold/wealth; மூவேடனை - பொருட் பற்று, புதல்வர் பற்று, உலகப் பற்று எனப்படும்.

வினை ஓட விடும் கதிர்வேல் மறவேன்
மனையோடு தியங்கி மயங்கிடவோ
சுனையோடு அருவித் துறையோடு பசும்
தினையோடு, இதணோடு திரிந்தவனே!

vinai Oda vidum kadhir vEl maRavEn
manaiyOdu thiyangi mayangkidavO
sunaiyOdu aruvith thuNaiyOdu pasum
thiNaiyOdu idhanOdu thirindhavanE!

I shall not forget Your lustrous lance that dispels the result of past deeds! Should a devotee like me be perplexed and deluded by this Samsaric life? (No, it cannot be!) Oh, Lord! You wandered in the midst of streams, waterfalls, and greenish millet fields (in search of Valli)!
