Paraphrase

இலாபமில் பொ(ல்)லாவுரை சொலாமன தபோதனர் இயாவரும் (ilAbamil polAvurai solAmana thapOdhanar iyAvarum ) : The sages who don't have the mind to utter futile and hurtful words, பயனற்ற பொல்லாத மொழிகளைச் சொல்லாத மனத்தையுடைய தவமுனிவர்கள்,

இராவுபகல் அடியேனை (irAvupagal adiyEnai) : praise me day and night, saying

இராகமும் விநோதமும் உலோபமுடன் மோகமும் இலான் (irAgamum vinOdhamum ulObamudan mOhamum ilAn ) : "He does not have desires, does not indulge in pranks, has no miserliness and lust;

இவனு மாபுருஷன் என ஏய (ivanum mA purushan ena Eya) : he is indeed a great man". To be able to qualify for these words of praise, இவனும் ஒரு சற்புருஷன் என்று சொல்லும் சொல் பொருந்துமாறு;

I must attain the state of Samadhi, a transcendental trance which is:

சலாப அமலாகர சசீதர விதாரண (salAbava malAkara saseedhara vidhAraNa) : Sweet-tempered, spotlessly pure, wearing the crescent moon, and the most compassionate, சல்லாபம் = இனிய குணத்தினனாக; விதரண= கருணை நிறைந்த;

சதாசிவ மயேசுர சகலலோக சராசர வியாபக பராபர (sadhAsiva mayEsura sakalalOka sarAsara viyApaga parApara) : Oh SadhAsivA, Oh MahEswarA, the all-pervasive God who pervades every matter, both stationary and non-stationary, in all the worlds, Oh Supreme Being,

மநோலய சமாதி அநுபூதி பெற நினைவாயே (manOlaya samAdhi anubUthipeRa ninaivAyE) : please consider blessing me with the state of NirvAna, where all thoughts cease and the mind retreats into itself.

Murugan is the son of Lord Shiva who wears the crescent moon, the serpent Adisesha, and the holy river Ganges on His tresses.

நிலாவிரி நிலாமதி (nilAviri nilAmadhi) : The crescent moon that spreads moonlight everywhere,

நிலாத அநில அசன நியாய பரிபால அர (nilAdha anila asana niyAya paripAla ara) : the serpent (AdhisEshan) who feeds on the wind that stops nowhere and who is known to uphold justice, நில்லாது அலைகின்ற காற்றை உணவாகக் கொள்ளுபவனும், நியாயத்தைக் காக்கவல்லவனும் ஆகிய ஆதிசேடனாகிய பாம்பையும், நி(ல்)லாத அநிலம் (ni(l)lAtha anilam) : non-stop air, and

நதி சூடி (nadhi sUdi) : and the river Ganga on the tresses;

நிசாசர குலாதிபதி ராவண புயாரிட (nisAchara kulAdhi pathi rAvaNa buyArida) : He (Shiva) once inflicted severe injury to the shoulders of Ravana, the leader of asura dynasty; ராவண புய அரிட = இராவணனுடைய தோள்களை வருந்தச் செய்தவரும்; அரிடம் = தீங்கு;

நிராமய சரோருக அரன் அருள்பாலா (nirAmaya sarOruharan aruLbAlA ) : He is free from any disease; He is seated on the lotus; that ShivA delivered You as His child!

வில் ஆசுகம் வலார் எனும் உலாச இத ஆகவ வியாதர்கள் (vil Asukam valArenum ulAsa idha Agava viyAdhargaL) : These hunters are experts with their bows and arrows and delight in fighting; வில்லிலும் அம்புகள் விடுதலிலும் வல்லவர் என்னும் மகிழ்ச்சியில் இன்பங்கொண்டு போர் செய்யும் வேடர்களின், வலார் (valaar) : expert; ஆசுகம் (Asugam) : an arrow; வியாதர் (viyaathar) : hunter; ஆகவ (Agava) : warring, fighting;

விநோதமகள் மணவாளா (vinOdhamagaL maNavALA) : their wonderful girl, VaLLi has You as her consort!

விராவு வயலார் புரி சிராமலை பிரான்மலை (virAvu vayalArpuri sirAmalai pirAnmalai) : VayalUr, Tiruchirapalli, PirAnmalai or கொடுங்குன்றம்(KodunkundRam),

விராலி மலை மீதிலுறை பெருமாளே. (virAli malai meedhil uRai perumALE.) : and VirAlimalai are Your favourite abodes, Oh Great One!
