வந்துநா யிற்கடைய னொந்துஞா னப்பதவி
வந்துதா இக்கணமெ	யென்றுகூற
மைந்தர்தா விப்புகழ தந்தைதா யுற்றுருகி
வந்துசே யைத்தழுவல்	சிந்தியாதோ
அந்தகா ரத்திலிடி யென்பவாய் விட்டுவரு
மங்கிபார் வைப்பறையர்	மங்கிமாள
அங்கைவேல் விட்டருளி யிந்த்ரலோ கத்தின்மகிழ்
அண்டரே றக்கிருபை	கொண்டபாலா
எந்தனா விக்குதவு சந்த்ரசேர் வைச்சடையர்

Paraphrase

The poet Saint Arunagirinathar bemoans the numerous births he has taken in various forms, both animate and inanimate, and suffered miserably. Now when he, the child, pleads for instant salvation, would not the Lord, as a benign father, rush and hug him?

விந்து பேதித்த வடிவங்களாய் எத்திசையும் (vinthu pEthiththa vadivangaLAy eththisaiyum) : This (body) assumes various shapes when the sukkilam spreads in all the directions in various combinations (with surONitham), பேதித்த வடிவம் (bEthiththa vadivam) : different shapes;

மின் சராசர்க் குலமும் வந்துலாவி ( min sarAsarkkulamum vanthulAvi) : and in multitudes of bright moving bodies and stationary objects in this world;

விண்டு போய் விட்ட உடல் சிந்தை தான் உற்றறியும் (viNdu pOy vitta udal sinthai thAn utRaRiyum) : (after their time is over,) the bodies break apart, and the lives depart. My mind has understood this phenomenon after deep contemplation.

மிஞ்ச நீ விட்ட வடிவங்களாலே (minja nee vitta vadivangaLAlE) : In the numerous bodies that You gave me in various births,

வந்து நாயிற் கடையன் நொந்து (vanthu nAyiR kadaiyan nonthu) : I, baser than a dog, have suffered unbearably.

ஞானப் பதவி வந்து தா இக்கணமெ என்று கூற (njAnap pathavi vanthu thA ikkaName enRu kURa) : I am beseeching You to come right at this moment and grant me blissful liberation.

மைந்தர் தாவிப் புகழ தந்தை தாய் உற்றுருகி (mainthar thAvip pukazha thanthai thAy utRurugi) : When little children run to their parents praising them, will they not simply melt and be moved

வந்து சேயைத் தழுவல் சிந்தியாதோ (vanthu sEyai ththazhuval sinthiyAthO) : to take the children in their arms and hug them? (Will You not think of holding me in Your embrace?)

அந்தகாரத்தில் இடி என்ப வாய் விட்டு வரும் (anthakAraththil idi enba vAy vittu varum) : Sounding like the thunder in the darkness, they made loud noise with their mouths wide open (while marching in the battlefield);

அங்கி பார்வைப் பறையர் மங்கி மாள அங்கை வேல் விட்டருளி (angi pArvaip paRaiyar mangi mALa angai vEl vittaruLi) : With their flaming eyes spewing fire, those demons of despicable lineage were all destroyed and killed when You wielded the spear with Your beautiful hand!
அடர்ந்த இருளில் இடி இடிப்பதுபோல் கூச்சலிட்டு வரும் தீப்போன்ற கண்களையுடை அசுரர்கள் மாண்டுபோக,

இந்த்ர லோகத்தின் மகிழ் அண்டர் ஏறக் கிருபை கொண்ட பாலா (inthra lOgaththin magizh aNdar ERak kirubai koNda bAlA) : The celestials of the land of IndrA were able to happily enter their land again by Your grace, Oh Kumara!

எந்தன் ஆவிக்குதவு சந்த்ர சேர்வைச் சடையர் (enthan Avikkuthavu chanthra sErvai sadaiyar) : The saviour of my life (refers to Saint Arunagirinathar being saved by the Lord at Thiruvannamalai), the holder of the crescent moon on the tresses,

எந்தை பாகத்துறையும் அந்த மாது (enthai bAgaththuRaiyum antha mAthu) : my Father, and His beautiful consort PArvathi, occupying the left side of His body, are both

எங்குமாய் நிற்குமொரு கந்தனூர் (engumAy niRkum oru kanthanUr) : pervasive throughout this place called KanthanUr,

சத்தி புகழ் எந்தை பூசித்து மகிழ் தம்பிரானே (saththi pugazh enthai pUsiththu magizh thambirAnE.) : where my Father, SivA, praised by Mother Parvati, happily worships You, Oh Great One!
