மழவிடையின் மிசையிவரு சோமீசர் கோயில்தனில்

இரவினிடை துயிலுகினும் யாரோடு பேசுகினும்
இளமையுமு னழகுபுனை யீராறு தோள் நிரையும்
இருபதமு மறுமுகமும் யானோத ஞானமதை	யருள்வாயே

Paraphrase

உரிய தவ நெறியில் நம நாராயணாய என (uriya thava neRiyil nama nArAyaNAya ena) : Following the righteous path of penance and praising the name of the Lord as "Om Namo Narayanaya";

ஒரு மதலை மொழிய அளவில் ஓராத கோபமுடன் (oru madhalai mozhi aLavil OrAdha kObamudan ) : the unique child (PrahlAdhan) called out the Lord's name and he (HiraNyan) became furious but

உனது இறைவன் எதனில் உளன் ஓதாயடா எனு முன் (unadhiRaivan edhanil uLan OdhAyadA enu mun) : before he could say, "where is your god, tell me!"

உறு தூணில் உரமுடைய அரி வடிவதாய் (uRu thUNil uram udaiya ari vadivadhAy) : He appeared assuming the form of a strong lion from the nearby pillar, அரி (ari) : lion;

மோதி வீழ விரல் உகிர் புதைய இரணியனை மார் பீறி (mOdhi veezha viral ugir pudhaiya iraNiyanai mAr peeRi) : knocked HiraNyan down, plunging His sharp nails into his chest and tearing it apart; உகிர் (ugir) : nail;

வாகை புனை உவண பதி நெடியவனும் (vAgai punai uvaNapathi nediyavanum) : He is the tall Lord Vishnu who raised His flag of victory and is the Master of Garuda; உவணம் (uvaNam) : eagle, Brahminy kite; வாகை (vAgai) : victory;

வேதாவும் நான் மறையும் உயர்வாக (vEdhAvum nAn maRaiyum uyarvAga) : along with Him, BrahmA and the four VEdAs were exalted;

வரி அளிகள் இசை முரல ( vari aLigaL isai murala): the striped beetles hummed musically; அளி (aLi) : bees; முரல (murala) : making sound, ஒலிக்க

வாகு ஆன தோகை இள மயில் இடையில் நடனம் இட (vAgAna thOgai iLa mayil idaiyil nadanamida) : the pretty and young peacock with a stylish tail came in the middle and danced; வாகு (vAgu) : beautiful;

ஆகாசம் ஊடுருவ வளர் கமுகின் விரி குலைகள் பூண் ஆரமாகியிட ( AkAsam Uduruva vaLar kamugin viri kulaigaL pUN AramAgi ida) : the large bunches of betel nuts growing on tall trees piercing the sky looked like an encircling garland; ஆ(/ஹா)ரம் ((h)aaram): garland;

மதில் சூழும் மருத அரசர் படை விடுதி வீடாக (madhil sUzhum marudharasar padaividudhi veedAga): surrounded by fortresses, this temple town that served as the camping for the king of the marutha region(SOmeeswaram was large enough for the kings of the valley to set up their camps;) மருதம் (marutham) : cultivated agricultural land, a type of soil, other classified as குறிஞ்சி, முல்லை, நெய்தல், பாலை; படை விடுதி (padai viduthi) : encampment;

நாடி மிக மழம் விடையின் மிசையி(ல்) வரு(ம்) சோமீசர் கோயில் தனில் (nAdi miga mazham vidaiyin misaiyivaru sOmeesar kOyil thanil) : Lord SivA, assuming the name of SOmeesar, comes to this temple with relish, mounted on His young vehicle, Nandi; மழம் (mazham) : young;

மகிழ்வு பெற உறை முருகனே பேணு வானவர்கள் பெருமாளே. (magizhvu peRa uRai muruganE pENu vAnavargaL perumALE.) : You are also delighted to have Your abode there, Oh MurugA! You are the Lord of all those celestials who seek You, Oh Great One!

இரவின் இடை துயிலுகினும் யாரோடு பேசுகினும் (iravin idai thuyiluginum yArOdu pEsuginum) : Even when I sleep or talk to anyone,

இளமையும் உன் அழகு புனை ஈராறு தோள் நிரையும் (iLamaiyumun azhagu punai eerARu thOL niraiyum) : Your twelve youthful and beautiful shoulders in a row,

இரு பதமும் அறு முகமும் யான் ஓத ஞானம் அதை அருள்வாயே (iru padhamum aRumugamum yAn Odha nyAnam adhai aruLvAyE) : kindly bless me with that True Knowledge so that I extol Your hallowed feet and Your six holy faces!
