Saint Arunagirinathar prays that the Lord should appear before him riding on a peacock with His six resplendent faces and twelve mighty shoulders, and save him from living a debased life of anger and fraud in the company of deceitful people.
கடிய வேகம் ஆறாத விரத சூதர் (kadiya vEga mARAtha viratha sUthar) : I am a fraud who has vowed to lose temper at all times; மூர்க்கத்தோடு கூடிய கோபத்தையே விரதமாக கொண்ட தீயவர்களும், ஒரு போதும் குறையாத நயவஞ்சனை உடையவர்களும், வேகம் (vEgam ) : anger; விரத சூதர் (viratha soothar) : deceitful persons who have vowed (to be angry at all times),
ஆபாதர் (ApAthar) : I am ignoble; கீழானோர்,
கலகமே செய் பாழ் மூடர் (kalagamE sey pAzh mUdar) : and foolish, always creating discord and agitation;
வினை வேடர் (vinai vEdar) : I am habituated to bad deeds; தீத்தொழில் புரியும் வேடரது குணம் உடையவரும்,
கபட ஈனர் (kapada eenar) : I am a cunning scoundrel; and
ஆகாத இயல்பு நாடியே (AgAtha iyalbu nAdiyE) : I sought the company of these people with bad character!
நீடு கன விகாரமே பேசி ( needu gana vigAramE pEsi) : I used to speak of very ugly things in their presence. பெரியதும் வலியதுமான அருவருக்கத் தக்கவற்றையே பேசி
நெறி பேணா கொடியன் (neRi pENAk kodiyan) : I was such a wicked fellow who shunned the righteous path.
ஏதும் ஓராது (Ethum OrAthu) : I never paused to contemplate. ஓராது (Oraathu) : without investigating/thinking through deeply; எதையும் ஆராய்ந்து அறியாமல்;
விரக சாலமே மூடு குடிலின் மேவியே நாளும் மடியாதே (viraka sAlamE mUdu kudilin mEviyE nALu madiyAthE) : My hut-like body is covered by a strong roof of lust and desires! To prevent me from living and decaying in this everyday, வெறும் ஆசை வலையினால் மூடப்பட்ட இந்தக் குடிசையாகிய உடலில் இருந்து கொண்டு எந்நாளும் அழிவுறாமல் விரக சாலம் (viraga chaalam) : bunches of carnal desires, காம ஆசைக் கூட்டங்கள் ;
குலவு தோகை மீது ஆறு முகமும் வேலும் (kulavu thOgai meethu ARu mugamum vElum) : (You must come before me) on Your lovely Peacock with Your six great faces, the Spear,
ஈராறு குவளை வாகும் நேர் காண வருவாயே ( eerARu kuvaLai vAgum nEr kANa varuvAyE) : and twelve shoulders adorned with garlands of KuvaLai flowers! You must come so that I can have Your vision right in front of me! குவளை வாகு (kuvaLai vAgu) : shoulders adorned with kuvalai flowers/garland, குவளை மலர் அணிந்த தோள்;
படியினோடு மா மேரு அதிர வீசியே (padiyinOdu mA mEru athira veesiyE) : The earth and the great mount MEru trembled;
சேட பணமும் ஆடவே ( sEda paNamum AdavE) : the thousand hoods of AdhisEshan were shaken;
நீடு வரை சாடி ( needu varaisAdi) : large mountains were shattered,
பரவை ஆழி நீர் மோத (paravai yAzhi neer mOtha) : the water in the wide seas boiled over; பரவை ஆழி (paravai Azhi) : wide sea; பரவை = கடல், பரந்த; ஆழி = கடல்;
நிருதர் மாள (niruthar mALa) : all the demons (asuras) died;
வான் நாடு பதி அது ஆக வேல் ஏவும் மயில் வீரா (vAnAdu pathiya thAka vElEvu mayilveerA) : and the Celestial Land became prosperous, when You mounted on Your Peacock and threw Your Spear valorously!
வடிவு உலாவி ஆகாசம் மிளிர் பலாவின் நீள் சோலை (vadivu ulAvi AkAsa miLir palAvi neeL sOlai) : There is a large grove of jackfruit trees which have grown beautifully, tall right up to the sky; வடிவம் பரந்து ஆகாயத்தில் உயர்ந்து இருக்கின்ற பலா மரங்களின் பெரிய சோலைகளும்,
வனச வாவி பூ ஓடை வயலோடே (vanasa vAvi pUvOdai vayalOdE) : there are several lotus ponds, lakes with water-flowers and a number of fields producing crops;
மணி செய் மாட மா மேடை சிகரமோடு (maNi sey mAda mA mEdai sikaramOdu ) : there are majestic terraces and beautiful balconies on tall towers in நவரத்தினங்கள் இழைத்த மாடமாளிகைகளும், சிறந்த மேடைகளும், கோபுரங்களும் நிறைந்து
வாகு ஆன மயிலை மேவி வாழ் தேவர் பெருமாளே.(vAgu Ana mayilai mEvi vAzhthEvar perumALE.) : the lovely place called Mylapore, which is Your abode; and You are worshipped by all DEvAs, Oh Great One!
