வரைமா துமையாள் தரு மணியே குகனேயென
அறையா வடியேனுமு	னடியாராய்
வழிபா டுறுவாரொடு அருளா தரமாயிடு
மகநா ளுளதோசொல	அருள்வாயே
இறைவா ரணதேவனு மிமையோ ரவரேவரு
மிழிவா கிமுனேயிய	லிலராகி
இருளா மனதேயுற அசுரே சர்களேமிக
இடரே செயவேயவ	ரிடர்தீர
மறமா வயிலேகொடு வுடலே யிருகூறெழ
மதமா மிகுசூரனை	மடிவாக
வதையே செயுமாவலி யுடையா யழகாகிய
மயிலா புரிமேவிய	பெருமாளே.

திரை வார் கடல் சூழ் புவி தனிலே உலகோரோடு திரிவேன் (thiraivAr kadal sUzhbuvi thanilE ulagOrodu thirivEn): I ramble around with people in this world, surrounded by wavy seas, திரை(thirai): waves;

உனை ஓதுதல் திகழாமே (unai Odhudhal thigazhAmE) : without saying any prayers to You.

தின(ம்) நாளும் மு(ன்)னே துதி மனது ஆர (dhina nALu munE thudhi manadhAra) : Filling my heart every day with words of praise for You,

பி(ன்)னே சிவ சுதனே திரி தேவர்கள் தலைவா (pinE sivasuthanE thiri dhEvargaL thalaivA) : and then pray "Oh, SivA's Son, You are the Lord of the Trinity,

மால் வரை மாது உமையாள் தரு மணியே குகனே (mAl varai mAdhu umaiyAL tharu maNiyE guhanE) : You are the jewel delivered by Mother UmA, the daughter of the great Mount HimavAn, Oh GuhA!"

என அறையா அடியேனும் உன் அடியராய் (ena aRaiyA adiyEnumun adiyArAy) : Extolling You like this, the humble me should become one among Your devotees

வழி பாடு உறுவாரோடு அருள் ஆதாரமாய் இடு (vazhipAd uRuvArodu aruL Adharam Ayidu) : who worship You; and I must mingle with them and acquire devotion.

மகா நாள் உளதோ சொ(ல்)ல அருள்வாயே (mahanAL uLadhO sola aruL vAyE) : Will such a great day occur to me? Kindly bless me to chant Your names!

இறை வாரண தேவனும் இமையோரவர் ஏவரும் (iRai vAraNa dhEvanum imaiyOravar Evarum) : IndrA, who is the master of the royal elephant, AirAvadham, and all the celestials வாரண தேவன்(vAraNa dEvan): chief of the white elephant Airavatha, Indra;

இழிவாகி மு(ன்)னே இயல் இலராகி (izhivAgi munE iyal ilarAgi) : were once humiliated and lost their status;

இருளா மனதே உற அசுரேசர்களே மிக இடரே செ(ய்)யவே (iruLA manadhE uRa asurEsargaLE miga idarE seyavE) : their hearts were filled with darkness and delusion as the demon kings harassed them immensely.

அவர் இடர் தீர மற மா அயிலே கொ(ண்)டு உடலே இரு கூறு எழ (avar idar theera maRa mA ayilE kodu udalE iru kURu ezha) : To end their sufferings, You took the mighty spear in Your hand and threw it at SUran and split his body into two.

மத மா மிகு சூரனை மடிவாக (madhamA migusUranai madivAga) : The arrogant demon, SUran, who had disguised himself as a mango tree, was destroyed and

வதையே செ(ய்)யு மா வலி உடையாய் (vadhaiyE seyu mAvali udaiyAy) : killed by You, Oh strong and powerful one!

அழகாகிய மயிலாபுரி மேவிய பெருமாளே. (azhagAgiya mayilApuri mEviya perumALE.) : You reside in the beautiful town, Mylapore, Oh Great One!
