Paraphrase

Saint Arunagirinathar is distressed by the futile life pursued over acquiring women and wealth. He laments that he hasn't sought the company of His devotees, which would have helped him to come out of the deep abyss he has fallen into. He earnestly asks God when He will shower His Grace on him.

அணி செவ்வியார் திரை சூழ் புவி த(धन )ன(ம்) நிவ்வியே கரை ஏறிட (aNi sevviyAr thirai sUzh buvi dhana nivviyE karai yErida) : Beautiful women, the world surrounded by the seas, wealth — to cross these oceans of lust, அழகில் செம்மை வாய்ந்த மாதர்கள், கடல் சூழ்ந்த பூமி, பொன்/செல்வம் ஆன பெண் - மண் - பொன் என்னும் மூவாசைகளையும் கடந்தே கரை ஏறுவதற்கான; அணி (aNi) : அழகு; அணி செவ்வியார் (aNi sevviyAr ) : அழகில் செம்மை வாய்ந்த மாதர்கள் ; புவி (buvi) : earth;

அறிவில்லியாம் அடியேன் இடரது தீர (aRivilliyAm adiyEn idar adhu theera) : I lack the Knowledge. To remove the obstacles that this ignorant me has,

அருள்வல்லையோ (aruL vallaiyO) : will You ever willingly grant me Your grace? திருவருளை வலிய அருள்வாயோ

நெடு நாள் இ(ன்)னம் இருளில்லிலே இடுமோ (nedu nALinam iruL illilE idumO) : Or are You determined to let me rot in these dark prisons of births for a long long time? இருள் இல் = இருள் சூழ்ந்த வீடுகளான பிறவி

உனது அருளில்லையோ (unadhu aruL illaiyO) : Am I going to be denied even a little of Your grace?

இனமானவை அறியேனே (inamAnavai aRiyEnE) : I am unable to recognise the multitude of Your devotees. உன் அடியார் கூட்டத்தை நான் அறியவில்லையே.

குண வில்லதா மக(/கா) மேரினை (guNa villadhA maga mErinai) : The Great Mount Meru was lifted by Her as a bow ( Lord SivA held Mount MEru as a bow in His left hand and the hand belongs to PArvathi); சீரான வில்லாக பெரிய மேரு மலையை தாங்கிய,

அணி செல்வி ஆய் அருணாசல குரு (aNi`selviyA aruNAchala guru) : by pretty Goddess PArvathi whose consort is AruNachAlar, and You are His Master! அழகிய தாயார் பார்வதி தேவியுடன் கூடிய அண்ணாமலையாருக்கு குருநாதனே! ஆய் - தாய் (பார்வதியுடன் கூடிய),

வல்ல மா தவமே பெறு குணசாத குடில் இல்லமே தரு நாளெது மொழி ( vallamA thavamE peRu guNajAtha kudil illamE tharu nALedhu mozhi ) : A virtuous birth, blessed with good character and obtained with severe penances, and housed in the hut called my body: tell me when You will grant me this. (when will you grant me a virtuous birth in which I am blessed with a good character obtained as a result of severe penances?); நான் திண்ணிய பெரும் தவநிலையே பெறும்வதற்கு, நற்குணத்தோடு கூடிய உடலாகிய வீட்டை அளிக்கும் பிறவியை எனக்கு நீ வரமாக தரும் நாள் எதுவெனக் கூறுவாயாக.

நல்ல யோகவரே பணி குண வல்லவா (nalla yOgavarE paNi guNa vallavA) : You are praised by great saints, Oh Virtuous One! நல்ல யோகிகளே பணிகின்ற நற்குண சீலனே,

சிவனே சிவ குருநாதா (sivanE siva gurunAthA) : You are SivA and also the Master of SivA!

பணி கொள்ளி மா கண பூதமொடு அமர் கள்ளி (paNi koLLi mAgaNa bUthamodu amar kaLLi) : She wears snakes for jewels; She steals our hearts and revels in the company of great devils; பாம்பை ஆபரணமாகக் கொண்டவள், பெரிய கணங்களான பூதங்களோடு அமர்ந்துள்ள திருடி,

கானக நாடக பர மெல்லியார் (kAnaga nAtaga para melliyAr) : She rejoices in dancing with SivA in the jungles; She is soft as soft can be; சுடலைக் காட்டில் திருநடனம் ஆடுகின்றவரும், மேன்மையும் மென்மையும் உடையவரும்,

பரமேசுரி தரு கோவே (paramEsuri tharu kOvE) : and She is the Supreme Goddess, PArvathi. You are the Great King She has bestowed with us.

படர் அல்லி மாமலர் பாணமது உடை வில்லி மா மதனார் அ(ன்)னை (padar alli mA malar bANamadhu udai villi mA mathanAr a(n)nai ) : She is the mother of the god of Love Manmatha who is an archer with arrows of waterborne flowers such as lotus, lily, neelOthpalam (a blue flower) etc;

பரி செல்வியார் மருகா (mA mathanAr anai pari selviyAr marugA) : She is Lakshmi, the renowned Goddess of Wealth. You are Her Nephew! பெருமை வாய்ந்த செல்வியாராகிய இலக்குமியின் மருகனே!

சுர முருகேசா (sura murugEsA) : You are the God of all DEvAs, Oh MurugA!

மணம் ஒல்லையாகி நகாகன தன வல்லி (maNa mollai yAgi nakAgana thana valli) : Goddess PArvathi, who married young, and who is the creeper-like damsel of Mount Himalayas, திருமணம் விரைவில் புரிந்தவளும், பெருமை வாய்ந்த மலைக் கொடியும் ஆகிய பார்வதி தேவி, ஒல்லை ( ollai) : விரைவில்; கன தன நக வல்லி(gana thana naga valli) : பருத்த கொங்கைகளையுடைய மலைக்கொடி; நகம் (nagam) : mountain;

மோகனமோடு அமர் மகிழ் தில்லை மா நடமாடினர் (mOhana mOd amar magizh thillai mAnatam Adinar) : loves to sit captivatingly at Chidhambaram, where Lord NadarAjA performs the Great Cosmic dance;

அருள் பாலா (aruLbAlA) : and You are that SivA's dear son!

மரு மல்லி மா வன நீடிய பொழில் (maru malli mAvana neediya pozhil) : A lush growth of fragrant jasmine plants, வாசனை மிக்க மல்லிகை பெரு காடாக வளர்ந்துள்ள சோலையும்,

மெல்லி கா வன மாடமை (melli kAvana mAdamai) : and soft flowers abound in elegant gardens with ponds all around at மென்மையான பூந்தோட்டங்களும், நீர்நிலைகளும் பக்கங்களில் சூழ்ந்து அமைந்துள்ள; கா(kaa) : flower garden, பூத்தோட்டம்; மாடு அமை - பக்கங்களில் சூழ்ந்து அமைந்துள்ள; ;

வடமுல்லை வாயிலின் மேவிய பெருமாளே.(vadamullai vAyilin mEviya perumALE.) : VadamullaivAyil, which is Your abode, Oh Great One!
