Paraphrase

The saint asserts that attaining ashta siddhis without pure bhakti is not of much use, as this may only perpetuate ahamkara bhava in the practitioner. Instead, the saint prays for that rare state of mind where the mind becomes devoid of 'I' and 'Mine' and is absorbed into the boundless sea of universal self and identifies every matter in the universe as self. This song also describes the flight of Murugan's peacock over the cosmos, which is akin to the flow of the river Yamuna, the all-pervasiveness of the clouds, and the immensity and boundlessness of the form of Lord Vishnu.

அமல வாயு ஓடாத கமல நாபி மேல் மூல (amala vAyu OdAtha kamala nAbhi mEl mUla) : By holding prana vayu without letting it go past the lotus in the MUlAdhAra Centre, தூய்மை நிறைந்த பிராணவாயு, மேற்கொண்டு செல்லாதபடி, மூலாதாரக் கமலத்தின்மேல் ஒடுங்க வைத்து; (அவ்வாறு செய்ததால்) கமலநாபி (kamala nabhi) : மூலாதாரமாகிய தாமரை;

அமுத பானமே மூல அனல் மூள (amutha pAnamE mUla anal mULa) : and then igniting the sparkling fire in that MUladhAra Centre to imbibe the nectar springing up; அமிர்தபானத்தைப் பருகும்படியாக மூலாக்கினி மூண்டு எழ,

அசைவுறாது பேராத விதமும் மேவி (asaivuRAthu pErAtha vithamum mEvi ) : and focus my mind, speech and action without even the slightest motion; (மனம், வாக்கு, காயம் இவை மூன்றும்) சலனமில்லாமல் நெகிழாதபடி ஒரு நிலையில் இருந்து சிறிதும் மாறாமல்; பேராத (pErAtha) : பெயராத, விலகாத; மேவி (mEvi) : அடைந்து;

ஓவாது அரிச(ம்) அதான சோபானம் அதனாலே (OvAthu arisa(m) athAna sOpAnam athanAlE) : so that non-stop bliss rises up step by step; மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தரக்கூடிய ஏணியின் மூலமாக (படிப்படியாக மேலேறி); சோபானம் = ஏணி, படிக்கட்டு; அரிசம் (ஹர்ஷம்) (arisam) : joy, bliss, happiness; சோபானம் (sopaanam) : stone steps, stone-stairs; ஓவாது (OvAthu) : இடைவிடாது;

எமனை மோதி ஆகாச கமனமாம் மனோபாவம் (emanai mOthi AkAsa kamanamAm manOpAvam : and my mental vigour soars sky high, enabling me to thrash even the God of Death (Yaman); ஆகாச கமனம்(akaasa gamanam) : power of passing through the air,

எளிது சால மேலாக உரையாடும் (eLithu sAla mElAka uraiyAdum ) : my speech which is glib and arrogant because of; மிகவும் எளிதான வகையில் மேலெழுந்து ஆணவத்துடன் பேசும்; சா(ஜா)லம்(chaalam) : magic, trick,

எனது யானும் வேறாகி (enathu yAnum vERAgi) : pride of possession and egoism, which should leave me; எனது என்ற மமகாரமும், நான் என்ற அகங்காரமும் நீங்கி ;

எவரும் யாதும் யான் ஆகும் (evarum yAthum yAn Akum) : and I should identify all other people and things as me; பிற பொருள்கள் யாவும் நானே ஆகக்கூடிய ;

இதய பாவன அதீதம் அருள்வாயே ( ithaya pAvana atheetham aruLvAyE) : Will You kindly grant me such an exalted state that is beyond the grasp of my mind?

விமலை தோடி மீதோடு யமுனை போல ( vimalai thOdi meethOdu yamunai pOla) : Like the River Yamuna gushing from the bangle of the pure Goddess PArvathi, பரிசுத்தமான தேவியின் தொடி என்னும் கை வளையினின்றும் (மேலெழுந்து வந்த) யமுனை நதி போலவும்,
According to Siva puranas, Shiva once rested his face on Devi's hands. Sweat flowed down Devi's fingers, and they became rivers like the Ganges and the Yamuuna. சிவபுராணத்தின்படி, சிவபெருமான் ஒருமுறை உமையம்மையின் திருக்கரங்களிலே தன் முகத்தைப் பதிக்க, தேவியின் பத்து விரல்களிலும் வியர்வை பெருக்கெடுத்து, அதுவே கங்கை, யமுனை முதலிய நதிகளாயின.

ஓர் ஏழு விபுத மேகமே போல (Or Ezhu viputha mEkamE pOla) : like the unmatched, all-pervading cloud, ஒப்பற்ற, எங்கும் வியாபித்திருக்கும் தன்மை வாய்ந்த, மேகத்தைப் போலவும்; விபுத (viputha) : எங்கும் வியாபிக்கும் தன்மை கொண்ட;

உலகு ஏழும் விரிவு காணும் மாமாயன் முடிய நீளு மாறு போல (ulagu Ezhum virivu kANum mAmAyan mudiya neeLu mARu pOla) : and like the expansive form of the powerful mystic, Lord Vishnu (in His Trivikrama avatara), who can look at the expanse of the seven worlds, in His viswarUpam and reach the boundary of the universe, ஏழு உலகங்களின் பரப்பையும் காணவல்ல பெரிய திருமால் (அண்டங்களின்) முழுமையும் எட்டும்படி விசுவ ரூபம் எடுத்தது போலவும்,

வெகு விதா முக ஆகாய பதம் ஓடி (vegu vithA muga AgAya patham Odi) : It (Your Peacock) ran the entire length in all directions and up to the sky, பல திசைகளின் அளவுக்கும், ஆகாய அளவுக்கும் ஓடிச் சென்று; வெகுவித முக (vegu vitha mukha) : பல திசைகளில்;

கமல யோனி வீடான ககன கோள மீது ஓடும் (kamala yOni veedAna kakana kOLa meethu Odum) : reaching the World of BrahmA, who emerged from the lotus on Vishnu's belly; தாமரையில் உதித்த பிரமனின் இருப்பிடமான விண்ணில் உள்ள பிரம்ம மண்டலத்தின் மீதும் ஓடுகின்ற ; கமலயோனி (kamala yOni) : திருமாலுடைய நாபிக் கமலத்தில் பிறந்த பிரமன்;

கலப நீல மாயூர இளையோனே (kalaba neela mAyUra iLaiyOnE) : such a powerful Peacock, with blue feathers, is Your vehicle, Oh Young Lord! கலப (kalaba) : கலாப—தோகை;

கருணை மேகமே தூய கருணை வாரியே (karuNai mEgamE thUya karuNai vAriyE) : You are compassionate as the showering cloud! You are like the pure ocean full of mercy!

ஈறு இல் கருணை மேருவே தேவர் பெருமாளே.(eeRu il karuNai mEruvE thEvar perumALE.) : You are an endless source of kindness like the Great Mount Meru! You are the Lord of all the celestials, Oh Great One! ஈறு (eeRu) : end;
