அணிந்த ஈசன் பரிவுடன் மேவிய	குருநாதா
உசந்த சூரன் கிளையுடன் வேரற	முனிவோனே
உகந்த பாசங் கயிறொடு தூதுவர்	நலியாதே
அசந்த போதென் துயர்கெட மாமயில்	வரவேணும்
அமைந்த வேலும் புயமிசை மேவிய	பெருமாளே.

Paraphrase

இசைந்த ஏறும் (isaindha ERum) : His vehicle, the great bull Nandi, on which He mounts with pleasure; விருப்பமுடன் ஏறுகின்ற ரிஷப வாகனமும்; ஏறு = இடபம்,

கரியுரி போர்வையும் (kariyuri pOrvaiyum) : the shawl made of elephant hide (stripped from the demon GajamukAsuran); கஜமுகாசுரனின் தோலை உரித்துப் போர்த்திய போர்வையும்,

எழில் நீறும் (ezhil neeRum): the elegant and bright holy ash on His body;

இலங்கு நூலும் (ilangu nUlum): the prominent PUNUl (sacred thread on the left shoulder);

புலிய தள ஆடையும் (puliya dhaLa Adaiyum) : the attire made of tiger skin;

மழு மானும் (mazhu mAnum): the pickaxe and the deer on two hands;

அசைந்த தோடும் (asaindha thOdum): the swinging earstuds; and

சிரம் அணி மாலையும் முடி மீதே (siram aNi mAlaiyu mudi meedhE) : the kondRai (Indian laburnum) garland worn on the head;

அணிந்த ஈசன் (aNindha eesan): these are the decorations of our Lord, SivA.

பரிவுடன் மேவிய குருநாதா (parivudan mEviya gurunAthA): He prevails upon You with love as Master! பரிவோடு போற்றிப் பரவிய குருநாதனே! மேவு = விரும்பு;

உசந்த சூரன் கிளையுடன் வேரற முனிவோனே (usandha sUran kiLaiyudan vEraRa munivOnE): The mighty and proud demon, SUran, and his dynasty were uprooted by Your rage!

உகந்த பாசம் கயிறொடு தூதுவர் நலியாதே (ugandha pAsam kayiRodu dhUthuvar naliyAdhE) : When Yama's (Death-God) messengers approach me with relish with their favourite weapon, PAsakkayiRu (Rope of Bondage), I should not be disheartened;

அசந்த போது என் துயர் கெட மா மயில் வரவேணும் (asandha pOdhu en thuyar keda mAmayil vara vENum ) : and at that weak moment when they take my life away, You must come to me on Your great peacock to end my misery.

அமைந்த வேலும் புயமிசை மேவிய பெருமாளே.(amaindha vElum buyamisai mEviya perumALE.): You display the beautiful spear on Your shoulder, Oh Great One!
