Paraphrase

தலைவலய போகமும் (thalai valaya bOgamum) : Pleasures that have touched the zenith, சிறப்புற்ற எல்லையை (அளவை) கண்ட இன்ப சுகங்களும்

சலனமிகு மோகமும் (chalanamigu mOhamum) : desires that disturb the mental equilibrium, மனச்சலனம் தரும் ஆசைகளும்,

தவறு தரு காமமும் (thavaRu tharu kAmamum) : lust leading to unrighteous ways, பிழையான நெறியில் செல்லும்படி தூண்டும் காம இச்சையும்,

கனல் போலும் தணிவரிய கோபமும் ( kanal pOlum thaNi ariya kObamum) : anger that is unquenchable like the fire, தீப்போல அடங்குதற்கு அரிதான கோபமும்,

துணிவரிய லோபமும் (thuNi ariya lObamum) : greediness that prevents any righteous and philanthropic action; துணிந்து ஒரு நல்ல செய்கையைச் செய்ய விடாத ஈயாமைக்குணமும்,

சமய வெகு ரூபமும் பிறிதேதும் (samaya vegu rUpamum piRidhEdhum) : many facades put on due to religious fanaticism; and all other similar displays சமயக் கோட்பாடுகளால் புனையும் பல வேஷங்களும்,

அலம் அலம் எனா எழுந்தவர்கள் (alam alam enA ezhundhavargaL) : are given up by the seekers of True Knowledge, saying "enough is enough". போதும் போதும் என்று தள்ளிய ஞான உணர்ச்சி உள்ளவர்கள்

அநுபூதி கொண்டு அறியுமொரு காரணம் தனை நாடாது (anubUthi koNdaRiyum oru kAraNan thanai nAdAthu) : Those enlightened ones have understood the fundamental principle through self-realisation. Not seeking the causal principle, தங்கள் அநுபவம் கொண்டு அறிகின்ற ஒரு மூலப்பொருளை விரும்பி உணராமல்,

அதி மத புராணமும் சுருதிகளும் ஆகி நின்று (adhi madha purANamun surudhigaLum Agi nindru) : resorting to legends and scriptures that emphasise the religious aspects நிரம்ப மதக்கொள்கைகளையே கூறும் புராணங்களையும், வேத மொழிகளையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு

அபரிமிதமாய் விளம்புவதோ தான் (aparimithamAy viLam buvadhO thAn) : and indulgence in excessive talking will be of no avail. அளவிலாத வகையில் வெறும் பேச்சு பேசுவதால் என்ன பயன்?

கலக இரு பாணமும் ( kalaga iru bANamun) : Her eyes are like two arrows waging a war of love; காமப் போரை விளைக்கும் இரு அம்புகளான கண்களும்,

திலக ஒரு சாபமும் (thilaka oru sApamum) : Her forehead is like a bow with a unique dot of vermilion; பொட்டு வைத்த, ஒப்பற்ற வில்லைப் போன்ற அழகிய நெற்றியும், சாபம்(sApam) : forehead;

களபம் ஒழியாத கொங்கையுமாகி (kaLabam ozhiyAdha kongaiyumAgi) : Her bosoms are fresh with the undried sandalwood paste;

கவரும் அவதாரமும் கொடிய பரிதாபமும் கருதி (kavarum avathAramum kodiya parithApamum karudhi) : Keeping in mind Her attractive figure on this earth and pitying Her for Her menial work (of guarding the millet field), உள்ளத்தைக் கவருமாறு உலகில் அவதரித்த தோற்றத்தையும்,(தினைப்புனம் காக்கும்) மிக்க பரிதாபமான தொழிலையும்

இது வேளை என்று கிராத குல திலக மானுடன் கலவி புரிவாய் (idhu vELai endru kirAdha kula thilakamAnudan kalavi purivAy) : You waited for an opportune moment to woo VaLLi, the deer-like and distinguished damsel of the hunters and united with Her in wedlock. கருத்திலே வைத்து, இந்த வள்ளியை ஆட்கொள்ளும் வேளை வந்ததென, வேடர் குலத்தின் சிறந்த மான் போன்ற வள்ளியுடன் கலந்தாய்.
