குழவியுமாய் மோகம் மோகித குமரனுமாய் (kuzhaviyumAy mOgam mOgitha kumaranumAy) : I was born as a little baby, grew into a young man, affected by delusion and passion, குழந்தையாகப் பிறந்து, மாயை, காம மயக்கம் இவை உடைய வாலிபனாக வளர்ந்து,

வீடு காதலி குலவனுமாய் நாடு காடொடு தடுமாறி (veedu kAthali kulavanumAy nAdu kAdodu thadumARi) : and became a well-settled family man of good lineage, possessing a house and a wife. I roamed about in the countryside and forests until I became dizzy. வீடு, மனைவி இவைகளோடு கூடிய நல்ல குலத்தவனாய் வாழ்ந்து, பின்பு நாட்டிலும், காட்டிலும் உழன்று தடுமாற்றம் அடைந்து, குலவன் (kulavan): குலவுபவன் அல்லது குலத்தவன்;

குனி கொடு கூன் நீடுமாகிடு கிழவனுமாய் (kuni kodu kUn needumAgidu kizhavanumAy): Eventually, my body was bent out of shape, developing a hunch-back, and I became an old man.உடல் வளைந்து, கூன் பெரியதாய் ஆன கிழவனுமாக ஆகி,

ஆவி போய் விட விறகுடனே தூளியாவதும் அறியா தாய் (Avi pOy vida viRakudanE thULiyAvathum aRiyA thAy): Knowing that after the life departs, my body would burn along with logs and get reduced to ashes. Jumping away from this trend of thought, உயிர் போன பிறகு (உடல்) விறகுடன் சாம்பற் பொடி ஆவதையும் அறிந்து, (அந்த எண்ணத்தை விட்டுத்) தாவி, தா (tha): தாவுதல்; அறியா தாய்(aRiyA thAy): அறிந்து தாவி;

பழய சட் ஆதார மேல் நிகழ் கழி உடல் காணா (pazhaya sad AthAra mEl nikazh kazhi udal kANA): and attain the state at which my body is discarded once I have surpassed the (KuNdalini ChakrA's) old centres numbering six; (குண்டலினி சக்ரத்தின்) பழமையான ஆறு ஆதாரங்களின் மேல் நிலையில் நிகழும் உடம்பு கழிபட்ட நிலையை அடைந்து, கழியுடல் (kazhi udal): உடம்பு நீங்கின;

நிராதர பரிவிலி வான் நாலை நாள் தோறும் மடை மாறி (nirAthara parivili vAn nAlai nAL thoRum madai mARi): (the state at which) I am able to return four inches of unused air into the unfettered and blissful ether daily; சார்பு அற்றதும், துன்பம் இல்லாததுமான ஆகாயத்தில் நாள் தோறும் நாலு அங்குல அளவு வாயுவைக் கழியாது திருப்பி, நிராதர பரிவு இலி வான் (nirAthara parivili vAn ): சார்பு வேண்டாத, துன்பமில்லாத ஆகாயத்தில்; நாலை மடை மாறி (nAlai madai maaRi): நாலங்குலப் பிரமாண வாயுவைக் கழியாது திருப்பி,
Yogi normally inhales 12 inches of air, retains 8 inches in the body and returns through exhalation 4 inches of air into ether.

பல பலவாம் யோக சாதக உடல் கொடு (pala palavAm yOka sAthaka udal kodu): I wish to develop my body by putting it through a variety of Yogic exercises; பல விதமான யோகப் பயிற்சிகள் செய்த உடலை வளர்த்து,

மாயாத போதக பதி அழியா வீடு போய் இனி அடைவேனோ (mAyAtha pOthaka pathi azhiyA veedu pOy ini adaivEnO): (after completion of the above) will I be able to ultimately reach the immortal heavenly abode where there is no death and there is only an effulgence of Knowledge? (இத்தனையும் செய்தபின்) சாவில்லாததும், அறிவு மயமானதுமான அழியாத முத்தி வீட்டை நாடிச் சென்று இனியாவது யான் போய்ச் சேருவேனோ?

எழு கடல் தீமூள மேருவும் இடிபட ( ezhu kadal theemULa mEruvum idipada) : The seven seas caught fire; Mount Meru was shattered to pieces; ஏழு கடல்களும் நெருப்பு மூண்டு எரியவும் மேரு மலையும் பொடிபடவும்,

வேதாவும் வேதமும் இரவியும் வாய் பாறி ஓடிட (vEthAvum vEthamum iraviyum vAy pARi Odida) : BrahmA, the four VEdAs and the sun ran helter skelter in wrong directions; பிரமனும், நான்கு வேதங்களும், சூரியனும் திசைமாறித் தறிகெட்டு ஓடவும்,

முது சேடன் இருள் அறு பாதாள லோகமும் இமையமும் நீறாக (muthu sEdan iruL aRu pAthALa lOkamum imaiyamum neeRAga): the bright nether world (PAthala LokA) ruled by the old serpent king AdhisEshan and the Himalayas were smashed to smithereens; பழைய ஆதிசேஷன் உள்ள இருட்டற்ற பாதாள லோகமும், இமயமலையும் பொடிப்பொடியாகவும்,

வாள் கிரி இரு பிளவாய் வீழ மாதிர மலை சாய (vAL giri iru piLavAy veezha mAthira malai sAya) : Mount SakravALa was split into two and fell down; the mountains in all the eight directions collapsed; சக்ரவாளகிரி இரண்டு பிளவுபட்டு வீழவும், எட்டுத் திக்குகளில் உள்ள மலைகள் சாய்ந்து விழவும்,

அழகிய மா பாகசாதனன் அமரரும் ஊர் பூத மாறு செய் (azhagiya mA pAkasAthanan amararum Ur pUtha mARu sey): handsome IndrA, the Great, and other DEvAs were resettled in their own golden celestial land; அழகு வாய்ந்த, சிறந்த இந்திரனும், தேவர்களும் (தங்கள்) பொன்னுலகில் குடியேறவும் செய்வித்து,

அவுணர் தம் மா சேனை தூள் எழ விளையாடி (avuNar tham mA sEnai thUL ezha viLaiyAdi) : the vast armies of the demons were driven to the dust as if it were a sport; அசுரர்களுடைய பெரிய சேனையை விளையாட்டுப்போல தூள்தூளாகச் செய்து, அமரினை மேவாத சூரரை அமர் செயும்

அமரினை மேவாத சூரரை அமர் செயும் வேலாயுதா (amarinai mEvAtha sUrarai amar seyum vElAyuthA) : You fought with the demons headed by SUran because of their disinclination for peace, Oh Lord with the Spear, அமைதியைப் பொருந்தாத சூரர்களோடு சண்டை செய்த வேலாயுதனே,

உயர் அருணையில் வாழ்வாக மேவிய பெருமாளே. (uyar aruNaiyil vAzhvAka mEviya perumALE.): You are seated with relish in Your famous abode in ThiruvaNNAmalai, Oh Great One! சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த திருவண்ணாமலையில் வாழ்வாக வீற்றிருக்கும் பெருமாளே.
