Meaning

The boisterous Rooster is dear to the gods. It establishes a congenial environment for the religious and moral texts to thrive. It is the harbinger of death and destruction for the asuras, the dark forces and black magic.

பூவில் அயன் (pUvil ayan) : Brahma, who is seated on the lotus flower,

வாசவன் (vaasavan) : Indra,

முராரி (muraari) : Vishnu, the slayer of the demon Mura;

முனிவோர் அமரர் பூசனை செய்வோர் மகிழவே (munivOr amarar pUsanaiseyvOr magizhavE) : The sages, devas and devotees who worship — Making all these people happy,

பூதரமும் எழுகடலும் ஆட (pUtharamum ezhukadalum Ada) : making the mountains and the seven seas dance,

அமுதூற (amuthURa) : making the world fill with happiness and prosperity,

அநுபோக பதினாலு உலகமும் தாவு புகழ் மீறிட (anubOga pathinaalu ulagamum thaavu pugazh meeRida) : making its fame stand out as the foremost in all the fourteen pleasure-yielding worlds ,

தாள் வலியதான பல பேய்கள் அஞ்ச (thaaLvaliya thaanapala pEykaL anjsa) : causing the strong and evil demons to run away in fear;

சிறகு கொட்டிக் குரல் பயிலுமாம் (siRagu kottik kural payilumaam) : the Rooster flaps its wings and lets out a roar; Who has this unusual Rooster? He is the Rider of the Peacock that is the personification of Knowledge. He is the son of Queen Parvati.

காவு கனி வாழை புளி மாவொடு உயர் தாழை கமுகு அடவிகள் பரவு நடன (kaavu kani vaazhai puLi maavodu uyar thaazhai kamugu adavikaL paravu nadana) : He (the peacock) dances in groves and forests where plantains, tamarind , and mango trees, coconut and areca nut trees that tower high; காவு (kaavu): groves; கனி வாழை (kani vaazhai) : plantain trees yielding fruits; தாழை (thaazhai): coconut trees; கமுகு (kamugu): areca nut tree;

காரண மெய் ஞான பரி (kaaraNa mey jnana pari) : He is the embodiment of Knowledge, having been under the reign of Murugan;

சீர் அணவு அர அசன கனக மயில் வாகனன் (seer aNavau ara asanak kanaga mayil vaaganan ) : He rides the renowned golden peacock who feeds on serpents; அணவு (aNavu) : to unite or join;

அடல் சேவகன் (adal sEvagan) : He is the formidable, mighty soldier; சேவகன் (sEvagan) : warrior, soldier, veteran;

இரசத இலக்கண உமைக்கு ஒரு சிகாமணி (sEvagan iraasatha ilakkaNa umaikku oru sikaamaNi) : He is the unique jewel in the crown of Devi Parvati who endowed with queenly attributes; இராசதம் (iraasatham) : rajatva; kingly or queenly pride;

சரோருக முக (sarOrugamuga) : Her countenance is like a lotus;,

சீதள குமார (seethaLa kumaara) : He is cool; He is young;

கிருபாகர (kirupaakara): He is the sea of compassion;
