குலைத்தலறு மூக்கிற் சினப்பேய்க ளைக்கொத்தி

Meaning

கரி முரட்டடி வலை கயிறு எடுத்து (kari murattadi valai kayiRu eduththu) : The dark-complexioned ruffian carrying the rope of pasam or attachment;

முறைத்து எயிறு பற்களை இருக்கியும் (muRaiththu eyiRu paRkaLai iRukkiyum) : He glares and gnashes his teeth;

கலகமிட்டு எமன் முன் கரமுற தொடரும் அக் காலத்தில் (kalagamittu yaman mun karamuRath thudarum akkaalaththil) : He is the terrifying Yama who holds my hands and leads me. At that time, எமன் முன் கரம் உற = எமன் (எனக்கு) முன்னே தோன்றி கையால் பற்ற,

வேலும் மயிலும் குருபரக் குகனும் அப்பொழுதில் நட்புடன் வர (vElum mayilum guruparak guhanum appozhuthil natpudan vara) : there appear as friends before me, the Lord’s ‘vel’ (that is a symbol of Supreme Knowledge), the peacock (that is a manifestation of omkara), and the Supreme Preceptor Guha

குரல் ஒலித்து அடியர் இடரை குலைத்து (kural oliththu adiyar idaraik kulaiththu) : and (the Rooster) hails and removes the distress of the devotees,

அலறு மூக்கில் சினப் பேய்களை கொத்தி (alaRu mUkkil sinap pEygaLaik koththi) : pecks at angry devils with its beak

வட்டத்தில் முட்ட வருமாம் (vattaththil mutta varumaam) : hovering around, ready to strike.

The following lines refer to the Pandya king Koon Pandian, whose affliction was cured by Thirugnana Sambanthar, considered an incarnation of Murugan.

அரிய கொற்கையன் (ariya koRkaiyan) : He is the beloved Korkai Pandian; கொற்கை: மதுரை; கொற்கையன்: கொற்கையை ஆண்டவன், கூன்பாண்டியன்;

உடல் கருக வெப்பகையை உற்பனம் உரைத்து (udal karukumvep pakaiyaiyuRpanamuRaiththu) : whose incurable fever that burned his body was appeased by explaining to him the root cause for his affliction (his relinnquishing the Saivism way of life in favor of Jainism ) . உற்பனம் (uRpanam) : something that is produced, something that arises, root cause, often refers to Pranava mantra because it is basic or fundamental to all sentient and insentient beings; வெப்பகையை = வெப்பு நோயை; உற்பனம் = பிரபஞ்சத்தை உற்பவிக்கும் மூலகாரணம்;

அதம் மிகவும் ஏவும் அமணரை கழுவில் வைத்து (atham migavum Evum amaNaraik kazhuvil vaiththu) : He impaled the treacherous chamanas, அதம் = கெடுதலான செயல்கள்; மிகவும் ஏவும் = பலவற்றையும் செய்யுமாறு ஏவிய;

அவரும் மெய்ப் பொடி தரித்தவர் அவனி மெய்த்திட அருளதார் (avarum meyp podi thariththavar avani meyththida aruLathaar) : He made his subjects wear the sacred ash and lead the world to Absolute Truth; மெய்ப்பொடி = மெய்யானதாகிய திருநீறு;

சிரபுரத்து அவதரித்து (sirapuraththu avathariththu) : He incarnated at Seerkazhi;

அமுதத் தினமணி சிவிகை பெற்று (amuthath thinamaNich sivika ipetru) : He received a pearl panthal (awning, canopy or shamiana) that was as cool as a nectar and as resplendent as a sun;
Thirugnanasambandar, was on his way to Patteeswaram to worship the Lord. Lord Shiva willed that a canopy of pearls (முத்து பந்தல் / பல்லக்கு) be erected along the way to make the hot summer cool. 

இனிய தமிழை சிவன் நயப்பு உற விரித்து உரை செய் விற்பனன் (iniya thamizhai sivan nayappu uRa viriththu urai sey viRpanan ) : He is the scholar who composed and sang several hymns (thevaram) in sweet Tamil which Shiva listened with interest; விற்பனன் = (ஞான சம்பந்த சுவாமிகளாக) அவதரித்த;

இகல் சேவல் திருத் துவசமே (igal sEvaR Riruththu vasamE) : It is the hostile rooster on His banner (that performs such feats). இகல் = வலிமை நிறைந்த.
