   தானா யிடும்புசெயு மோகினி இடாகினி
தரித்தவே தாளபூதம்

சருவசூ னியமுமங் கிரியினா லுதறித்
தடிந்துசந் தோடமுறவே

saruvasU niyamumang kiriyinaa luthaRith

கோனாகி மகவானும் வானாள வானாடர்
குலவுசிறை மீளஅட்ட

kOnaagi magavaanum vaanaaLa vaanaadar
kulavusiRai meeLaatta

குலகிரிகள் அசுரர்கிளை பொடியாக வெஞ்சிறைகள்
கொட்டியெட் டிக்கூவுமாம்

டேனான மைக்கடலின் மீனான வற்கினியன்
சேவற் றிருத்து வசமே.

தானாய் இடும்பு செய்யும் மோகினி (thaanaay idumbu seyum mOgini) : Mohini demonesses who do evil acts of their own accord,

இடாகினி (idagini) : demonesses who eat corpses,

தரித்த வேதாள பூதம் (thariththa vethaaLa bUtham) : and other demonic forms who are in their company,

சர்வ சூனியமும் (saruva sUniyamum) : the malefic results of their witchcraft and black magic

அங்கிரியினால் உதறி தடித்து (angiriyinaal uthaRith thadinthu) : It (the Rooster) will pick up with its paws and shake them, and punish them,

மகவானும் சந்தோடமுறவே கோனாகி வானாள (magavaanum santhOdamuRavE kOnaagi vaanaaLa) : bringing delight to Indra and making him the chief of the celestial world ,

வானாடர் குலவு சிறை மீள (vaanaadar kulavu siRai meeLa) : releasing the celestial devas from the prison,

அட்ட குல கிரிகள் அசுரர் கிளை பொடியாக வெம் சிறைகள் எட்டிக் கூவுமாம் (atta kulagirigaL asurar kiLai potiyaaga vem siRaikaLkotti ettik kUvumaam) : turning into dust the eight renowned mountains, annihilating the clans of asuras

The following lines describe Shiva, father of Murugan, who enshrines this Rooster on His banner.

மானாகம் அக்கு அறுகு மான் உடையன் நிர்த்தம் இடு மா தேவன் (maanaagam akku aRugu maan udaiyan nirththam idu maathEvan) : To Shiva, the Supreme Lord, who wears big serpent called Vasuki, a garland of bones or skulls, cyanandon grass and dances,

நற்குருபரன் (naRguruparan) : He is a good Teacher;,

வான் நீரம் அவனி அழல் காலாய் நவக்கிரகம் வாழ் நாள் அனைத்தும் அவனாம் (vaan neeram avani azhal kaalaay navakkiragam vaazh naaL anaiththum avanaam) : He is immanent in the five basic elements such as the sky, the water, the Earth. The fire and the air, in the nine planets, in the concept called Time or ‘kalam'; அழல் (azhal) : fire; கால் (kaal) : wind;

சேனாபதித் தலைவன் (sEnaapathith thalaivan) : He is the Commander-in-Chief of the Celestials,

வேதாவினை சிறை செய் (vEthaavinai chiRai sey) : He imprisoned the Creator Brahma;

தேவாதிகட்கு அரசு (thEvaathigatku arasu) : He is the king of devas

கள் தேன் ஆன (kaL thEnaana) : He is sweet as the wine and the honey;,

மைக் கடலில் மீனானவற்கு இனியன் (maik kadalil meenaanavaRku iniyan) : He is loved by Nandi who was once in the form of a fish in the dark sea;

சேவல் திரு துவசமே (sEval thiiruth thuvasamE) : It is the Rooster on His banner (that accomplishes such incredible feats mentioned in the first half of the poem)
