Meaning

வந்து ஆர்ப்பரிக்கும் அம் மிண்டுவகை தண்டதரன் வலிய தூதுவர் பில்லி பேய் (vanthu aarpparikkum am miNdu vagai thaNdatharan valiyathU thuvar billi pEy) : The headstrong messengers of Yama, holding dandayutha and approaching with roaring noise, the devils, and the ogres who have been launched by sorcery; தண்டதரன் = கையில் தண்டம் ஏந்துகின்ற இயமன்;

வஞ்சினால் பேதுற (Vanjinaal bEthuRa) : (the Rooster) deludes these dark forces with immense anger

மகா பூதம் அஞ்சிட (magaa bUtham anjida) : scares away even the big demons

வாயினும் காலினாலும் பந்தாடியே மிதித்து கொட்டி (vaayinum kaalinaalum panthaadiyE mithiththuk kotti) : It stabs them with its mouth and claws, and kicks them like a ball

வடவை செம் பவளமா (vadavai sem pavaLamaa) : It hooks out the Vadavamukhagni that looks like a coral,

அதிகாசமாய் (athikaasamaay) : It laughs uproariously, காசம் / ஹாசம் (kAsam/ hAsam) : laughter;

பசும் சிறை தல மிசை தனி அயில் குமரனை பார்த்து அன்பு உற கூவுமாம். (pasum siRai thalamisai thani ayil kumaranaip paarththu anbu uRa kUvumaam) : It crows affectionately, looking at Murugan who is seated on the back of the green-plumed peacock, holding His incomparable spear.

முந்து ஆகமப் பலகை சங்காக மத்தர் தொழ முன்பேறு முத்தி முருகன் (munthu aagamap palagai sangaaga maththar thozha munbERu muththi murugan) : Murugan, who proffers salvation to true seekers, presided over the avant-garde Sangam academy of literary scholars who evaluate literary works and establish standards, and is honored by literary experts,

முது கானகத்து எயினர் பண்டோடு அயில் கணை முனிந்தே தொடுத்த சிறுவன்.( muthu kaanagaththu eyinar pandOdu ayil kaNai muninthE thoduththa siRuvan) : He is the young boy who once attacked angrily the hunters who lived in ancient forests with His sharp spear;

சிந்தாகுலத்தை அடர் கந்தா எனப் பரவு சித்தர்க்கு இரங்கு அறுமுகன் (chinthaakulaththai adar kanthaa enapparavu siththarkku irangu aRumugan) : He is the six-faced Shanmuga who is compassionate to those who constantly pray in their mind “He is Kantha, who removes mental distrees”

செய வெற்றி வேள் புனிதன் (seya vetrri vEL punithan) : He is always victorious; He is pure;

நளினத்தன் முடி குற்றி (naLinaththanmudikutrri) ; He knocked Brahma, who is seated on the lotus flower, on His head;

சேவல் திரு துவசமே (sEval Thiruth thuvasamE) : It is the Rooster on His auspicious banner.
