Paraphrase

The first half of the song describes Parvati, Murugan’s mother.

கொந்து ஆர் குழல் வரி வண்டு ஓலிடும் (konthu aar kuzhal vari vaNdu Olidum) : Her hair, bedecked with bunches of flowers in which bumblebees buzz ,

இயல் கொண்டு ஏழ் இசை மருள குதலை மொழிந்து (iyal koNdu Ezh isai maruLa kuthalai mozhinthu ) : Synchronizing her voice with the rhythm of the bees' hum, She prattles with lilting tones that vie with the hum of those bees and scare away the seven musical notes by their incomparable melody. வண்டு ஓலிடும் இயல் கொண்டு (vandu Olidum iyal kondu) : Maintaining the rhythm of the bees’ hum;

அருள் கவுரி சுதந்தரி குமரன் (aruL gavuri suthanthari kumaran) : She showers Her merciful Grace on the devotees; She is golden complexioned, and sovereign, and Her son is Kumara,

இதம் பெறு பொன் செந்தாமரைக் கடம் நந்தா வனம் உள செந்தூர் எங்குமுளான் (itham peRu pon senthaamarai kadam nanthaa vanam uLa senthUr engum uLaan) : who resides at the salutary place called Tiruchendur which has refreshing red lotus-lakes and groves, and also at many other places or sthalas.

திலக மயிலில் வரு குமரன் வரிசை பெறு சேவல் தனைப் பாட (thilaka mayilil varu kumaran varisai peRu sEval thanai paada) : In order that I sing in praise of the Rooster that Murugan, who mounts the eminent peacock, carries on His flag,

In the following lines, Saint Arunagirinathar praises Ganesha and seeks His grace.

வந்தே சமர் பெரு மிண்டாகிய கயமாமுகனைக் கோறி (vanthE samarporu miNdaagiya kayamaamukanai kORi) : He slew the arrogant elephant-faced demon Gajamukhasura who was engaged in a combat with Him. சமர் (samar) : combat, war; கயம் (kayam) : elephant;

வன் கோடு ஓன்றை ஒடித்து பாரதம் மா மேருவில் எழுதி (vankOdu onRai odiththu baaratham maamEruvil ezhuthi) : He broke one of His strong tusks and with it, wrote the story of Mahabharata on Mount Meru;

பைந்தார் கொடு பல ராவணன் அன்பொடு பணி சிவ லிங்கமதை பார் மிசை வைத்த விநாயகன் முக்கண் பரமன் துணையாமே (painthaar kodupala raavaNan anbodu paNi siva lingamathai paar misai vaiththa vinaayakan mukkat paraman thuNaiyaamE) : May Lord Vinayaka, who installed on earth the Shivalinga which Ravana lovingly worshipped with fresh flowers, protect me. பைந்தார் (painthaar) : garland of fresh flowers;
Once Ravana went to Kailasa and performed severe penances. Lord Shiva was pleased and granted him a Shivalinga, with the warning that it should not be placed anywhere on the ground. The Devas were worried that if this was carried to Lanka, it would make Ravana invincible, and so sought Vinayaka’s help. Vinayaka appeared as a young Brahmin boy before Ravana and offered to keep the Linga in his hands to enable Ravana to perform his daily morning ablutions. Ravana instructed the boy not to keep the Linga on the ground, but the boy countered that he would place it on the ground only if Ravana did not come back even after being called thrice. Before Ravana had the time to rush back, the boy used this caveat to place the Linga on the ground after calling out for Ravana thrice in quick succession. When Ravana rushed back, he found that the Linga had stuck to the ground and could not be uprooted.
