பகர்தற்கு அரிதான செந்தமிழ் இசையில் சில பாடல் அன்பொடு பயில பல காவியங்களை உணராதே ( pagardhaRku aridhAna senthamizh isaiyil sila pAdal anbodu payila pala kAviyangaLai uNarAdhE) : Instead of desiring to study several literary works in order to learn the rich and incomparably beautiful Tamil language so that I can sing a few songs in it,

பவளத்தினை வீழியின் கனி அதனை பொரு வாய் மடந்தையர் பசலைத்தனமே பெறும் விரகாலே ( pavaLaththinai veezhi-in kani adhanaipporu vAy madandhaiyar pasalaith thanamE peRumpadi viragAlE ) : I thought only about the beautiful mouths of maidens which were red like the coral and the veezhi fruit; and my lust for them caused my skin to change its colour!

சகரக்கடல் சூழும் அம்புவி மிசை இப்படியே திரிந்து உழல் சருகொத்து உளமே அயர்ந்து உடல் மெலியாமுன் (sagarak kadal sUzhum ambuvi misai ippadiyE thirindhuzhal sarugothth uLamE ayarndhudal meliyAmun) : I roam aimlessly on this beautiful earth surrounded by oceans dug out by Sagara's sons; before I get fatigued and emaciated like a dry leaf caught in a cyclone, சகரக்கடல் (sagarak kadal ) : சகர புத்திரர்களால் தோண்டப் பட்ட கடல்;
Sagara, the king of Ayodhya, performed Ashwamedha yagna. Afraid that he might lose his position, Indra stole the sacrificial horse and hid it in the underworld or patala. Sagara's sons delved through subterranean regions and found the horse. Unfortunately, they mistook Sage Kapila, who was meditating near the horse, to be a thief and shook him. the enraged sage burned them into ash. The grieving king Sagara wanted to revive his sons and was told that he should bring river Ganges from the heaven and dissolve the ash in the flowing water. This was not an easy job, and after several failed attempts, Bhageeratha, Sagara's grandson, finally succeeded in bringing the river to the earth.

தகதித்திமி தாகி ணங்கிண என உற்றெழு தோகை அம் பரிதனில் அற்புதமாக வந்தருள் புரிவாயே (thaga thiththimi dhAgi NangiNa ena utrezhu thOgai ampari thanil aRbuthamAga vandharuL purivAyE ) : You must make your magnificent appearance mounted on the lovely horse-like peacock with towering plumes and dancing in accordance with the meter "thaga thiththimi dhAgi NangiNa", and bestow grace on me!

நுகர் வித்தகமாகும் என்று உமை மொழியிற் பொழி பாலை உண்டிடு நுவல் மெய்ப்புள பாலன் என்றிடும் இளையோனே ( nugar viththagamAgum endru umai mozhiyiR pozhi pAlai uNdidu nuval meyppuLa bAlan endridum iLaiyOnE) :Saying "Drink this Milk of Wisdom and receive Great Knowledge", Mother Parvati gave You Her milk and You became GnAna Pandithan (Wizard of Knowledge); all scriptures praise You as Her Great Son, Oh Young One! மெய்ப்புள = வாய்மை நிறைந்தவன்; நுவல் = சொல்லப்படுகின்ற;

நுதி வைத்த கரா மலைந்திடு களிறுக்கு அருளே புரிந்திட நொடியிற் பரிவாக வந்தவன் மருகோனே ( nudhi vaiththa karA malaindhidu kaLiruk aruLE purindhida nodiyiR parivAga vandhavan marugOnE) : You are the nephew of Lord Vishnu who came instantly to shower His grace on the elephant Gajendra when the crocodile with sharp teeth attacked him; கரா (kara ) : crocodile; நுதி வைத்த = நுனிக் கூர்மை வாய் கொண்ட; கரா = ஆண் முதலை; மலைந்திடு = வலித்துப் போரிட்ட; களிறுக்கு = (கஜேந்திரனாகிய) யானைக்கு;

அகரப்பொருள் ஆதி ஒன்றிடு முதல் அக்கரமானதின் பொருள் அரனுக்கு இனிதா மொழிந்திடு குருநாதா (agarap poruLAdhi ondridu mudhal akkaramAnadhin poruL aranuk inidhA mozhindhidu gurunAthA ) : You preached to Shiva the significance of the Pranava Manthra that contains the three letters a, u and m and forms the first syllable of any manthra; முதல் அக்கரம் (muddhal akkaram) : first akshara or first letter of any manthra (aum);

அமரர்க்கு இறையே வணங்கிய பழநித் திருவாவினன்குடி அதனில் குடியாய் இருந்தருள் பெருமாளே ( amararkki iRaiyE vaNangiya pazhanith thiru Avinankudi adhanil kudiyAy irundharuL perumALE.) : You reside at ThiruvAvinankudi, at the foothills of Mount Pazhani, which is worshipped by IndrA, the Lord of all DEvAs, to shower grace on Your devotees, Oh Great One!
