Paraphrase

மால் ஆசை கோபம் ஓயாது எந்நாளும் (mAlAsai kObam OyAdhu ennALum) : Daze, desire and anger - under the constant sway of these emotions everyday;

மாயா விகார வழியே செல் (mAyA vigAra vazhiyE sel mApAvi kALi thAnEnu) : thoughts actions and speech are out of synch with each other. I tread this path called mayavikaram மாயா விகாரம் = மாயம் செய்யும் மனமாற்றம்; விகாரம் என்பது இயல்பு மாற்றம்.

மா பாவி காளி தான் ஏனு(ம்) (mApAvi kALi thAnEnu) : Although I am a big sinner and treacherous, காளி = விஷ குணமுள்ளவனும், தானேனும் = இப்படிப்பட்டவனாக அடியேன் இருப்பினும்,

நாத மாதா பிதாவும் இனி நீயே (nAdha mAthA pithAvum inineeyE) : my Lord, You are my Mother and Father from now on.

நாலு ஆன வேத நூல் ஆகம(ம)ம் ஆதி நான் ஓதினேனும் இல்லை (nAlAna vEdha nUl AgamAdhi nAnOdhi nEnum ilai) : I never learned The Four Great Vedas or the Great Scriptures.

வீணே நாள் போய் விடாமல் ஆறு ஆறு மீதில் ஞான உபதேசம் அருள்வாயே (veeNE nALpOy vidAmal ARAru meedhil nyAnOba dhEsam aruLvAyE) : Lest my remaining days are wasted, You have to bless me with the True Knowledge (which surpasses 36 fundamental tenets).வீணாக நாள் போய்விடாத வண்ணம், முப்பத்தாறு தத்துவங்கட்கு அப்பாற்பட்ட நிலையில் ஞான உபதேசத்தை அருள்புரிவீராக.

அணி மீதே பாடீர லேப வாக (aNi meedhE pAteera lEpa vAga ) : You wear fragrant sandal paste on Your jewels, பாடீர லேப (pAteera lEpa ) : sandal paste; ஆபரணங்களின் மீது சந்தனக்கலவைப் பூச்சு அணிந்துள்ள அழகரே!

பாதாள(ம்) பூமி ஆதார (pAdhALa bUmi AdhAra) : Supporter of both the PAthAla (undergound) and the Earth, பாதலத்துக்கும் பூதலத்துக்கும் பற்றுக் கோடானவரே!

மீன பானீயம் மேலை வயலூரா (meena pAneeya mElai vayalUrA) : Resident of West VayalUr, rich in water and fish!

வேலா விராலி வாழ்வே (vElA virAli vAzhvE) : Oh VElA, holder of the Spear, and the Treasure of Virali Mount,

சமூக வேதாள பூத பதி சேயே (samUga vEdhALa bUtha pathisEyE) : You are the son of SivA, the Leader of multitudes of bhUthas and ghosts.
