செழும் தாது பார் மாது (chezhum thAthu pAr mAthu) : Rich and copious gold, land and woman (known as the three desires), செழுமையான பொன், மண், பெண் (என்னும் மூவாசைகளும்)

அரும்பு ஆதி ரூபோடு சிறந்து யாதிலும் ஆசை ஒழியாத (arumbu Athi rUpOdu siRanthu yAthilum Asai ozhiyAtha ) : these desires start like a little bud and later blossom fully, becoming a smallger and perpetual obsession; முதலில் அரும்பு விட்டுப் பின்னர் வளர்ந்த உருவத்துடன் விளங்கி எதிலுமே ஆசை நீங்காத ,

திறம் பூத வேதாளன் ( thiRam pUtha vEthALan ) : and I am like a haunted devil இயல்பே உடைய பேய் பிசாசாகிய நான்.

அரும் பாவமே கோடி செ(ய்)யும் காய நோயாளன் (arum pAvamE kOdi se(y)yum kAya nOyALan) : I have a sick body with which I commit millions of offensive sins. கொடிய பாவங்களைக் கோடிக் கணக்கில் செய்யும் உடலில் நோய் கொண்டவன்.

நரகு ஏழில் விழுந்து ஆழவே மூழ்க இடும் காலன் மேய் ஆவி விடும் காலமே (naragu Ezhil vizhunthu AzhavE mUzhka idum kAlan mEvi Avi vidum kAlamE) : When Yaman (God Of Death) approaches to push me deep down under the seven hells, and I am about to shed this life, ஏழு நரகங்களிலும் விழுந்து ஆழ்ந்து முழுகும்படி தள்ளுகின்ற யமன் என்னை அணுக, நான் உயிர் விடும் காலத்தில்

நாயேன் வினை பாவம் விரைந்து ஏகவே ( nAyEn vinai pAvam virainthu EgavE) : in order that all my sins and misdeeds are driven away swiftly;

வாசி துரந்து ஓடியே ( vAsi thuranthu OdiyE) : You must come quickly mounting Your horse-like Peacock, வாசி(vaasi) : horse;

ஞான விளம்பு ஓசையே பேசி வர வேணும் (njAna viLambq1u OsaiyE pEsi vara vENum) : and come speaking words of wisdom that are audible to me! ஞான மொழிகளைச் சொல்லும் ஒலியே எனக்குக் கேட்கும்படியாக பேசி வந்தருள வேண்டும்.

அழும் கோடி தேவர்கள் அமர்ந்து ஆர வான் நீடி (azhum kOdi thEvargaL amarnthu Ara vAn needi) : Millions of crying DEvAs were peacefully settled and enabled to live long in their celestial land அழுத கோடிக் கணக்கான தேவர்கள் விண்ணில் நீண்ட காலம் அமர்ந்து வாழ்ந்திருக்கும்படியாக,

அழன்று ஏகி மா சீத நெடு வேலை அதிர்ந்து ஓடவே (azhanRu Eki mA seetha nedu vElai athirnthu OdavE) : because You rushed with rage making the cold and wide sea shudder; கொதிப்புடன் கோபித்துச்சென்று, மிகவும் குளிர்ச்சியான பெரிய கடல் அதிர்ச்சி அடையும்படி நீ வேகமாகப் பாய்ந்து செல்ல, அழன்று(azhandru) : கொழுந்துவிட்டு எரிகிற நிலையில் வேலை(vElai) : sea;

காலன் விழுந்து ஓடவே (kAlan vizhunthu OdavE) : and making Yaman (God of Death) sprint to the battlefield (to take the lives of the demons);

கூர அலங்கார வேல் ஏவும் முருகோனே (kUra alankAra vEl Evum murugOnE) : when You wielded the sharp and highly decorated Spear of Yours, Oh Lord MurugA!

கொழும் கானிலே மாதர் செழும் சேலையே கோடு (kozhum kAnilE mAthar sezhum sElaiyE kOdu) : In the verdant forest, He grabbed the pretty clothes of women,

குருந்து ஏறு மால் மாயன் மருகோனே (kurunthu ERu mAl mAyan marugOnE) : and climbed the kurunthai tree (to hide their clothes); You are the nephew of that mystic Krishna (VishNu)!

குறம் பாடுவார் சேரி புகுந்து (kuRam pAduvAr sEri pugunthu) : You entered the commune of the KuRavAs where the folksy song, KuRam, is sung,

ஆசை மாதோடு குணம் கூடியே வாழு(ம்) பெருமாளே (Asai mAthOdu kuNam kUdiyE vAzhu(m) perumALE.) : and wooed Your beloved consort, VaLLi, pleased with her virtuous qualities; then, You lived happily for ever with her, Oh Great One! உன் ஆசைக்கு உகந்த வள்ளியுடன், அவள் குணத்துக்கு மகிழ்ந்து, பிறகு அவளுடன் கூடியே வாழ்கின்ற பெருமாளே.
