Paraphrase

தறுகணன் மறலி முறுகிய கயிறு (thaRukaNanan maRali muRugiya kayiRu) : When the merciless Yaman (Death-God) holding a strong rope இரக்கமற்ற யமன் திண்ணிய பாசக்கயிற்றை தறுகண்(thaRukaN) : Cruelty, savageness, fierceness, கொடுமை, அஞ்சாமையாகிய வீரம், கொல்லுகை; தறுகணன் (thaRukaNan) : a fierce warlike person;

தலைகொடு விசிறீ (thalaikodu visiRee) : hurls it, holding its tip அதன் நுனியைப் பிடித்து வீசி எறிந்து

கொடு போகும் சளமது தவிர (kodu pOgum chaLamathu thavira) : to take my life away; to avoid that misery, உயிரைக் கொண்டுபோகும் துன்பம் எனக்கு நேராமல் தவிர்க்க, சளம் (saLam) : deceit, வஞ்சனை;

அளவிடு சுருதி தலைகொடு பல சாத்திரம் ஓதி (aLavidu suruthi talaikodu pala sAththiram Othi) : I must chant all scriptures and VEdAs which have been very well compiled. அளந்து வகைப்படுத்தியுள்ள வேதம் முதலிய பல சாஸ்திரங்களையும் ஓதி,

அறுவகை சமய முறை முறை சருவி (aRuvagai samaya muRai muRai charuvi) : The six subsects of the religion debate among themselves ஆறு சமயங்களும் ஒன்றோடொன்று மாறுபட்டு சருவுதல்(saruvuthal) : போராடுதல், சிண்டு முடிதல்;

அலை படு தலை மூச்சினையாகும் (alaipadu thalai mUchchinai Agum) : clashing with each other causing headache மோதித் தலை வேதனை தரப் போராடும்

அருவரு ஒழிய (aruvaru ozhiya) : and utter disgust; to get rid of that frustration, வெறுப்பேற்றும் செயல்கள் ஒழிந்து,

வடிவுள பொருளை அலம் வர அடியேற்கு அருள்வாயே (vadivuLa poruLai alam vara adiyERku aruLvAyE) : You have to show to Your devotees Your form, which is the embodiment of supreme bliss and tranquility, in order that peace prevails. பேரின்ப வடிவம் உள்ள சற்குணப் பொருளை அமைதியோடு அறியும்படி எந்தனுக்கு நீ அருள்செய்ய வேண்டும்.

நறுமலர் இறைவி அரி திரு மருக (naRu malar iRaivi ari thiru maruga) : You are the nephew of Hari and Lakshmi, who sits on a fragrant lotus. மணமுள்ள தாமரையில் அமர்ந்த லக்ஷ்மிக்கும் திருமாலுக்கும் மருமகனே,

நகம் உதவிய பார்ப்பதி வாழ்வே (nagam uthaviya pArppathi vAzvE) : You are the Treasure of PArvathi, daughter of Mount HimavAn. (இமய) மலை பெற்ற பார்வதியின் செல்வக் குமரா, நகம் (nagam) : mountain;

நதி மதி இதழி பணி அணி கடவுள் (nathi mathi ithazhi paNi aNi kadavuL) : Lord SivA, who adorns His tresses with a river (Ganga), a crescent moon, kondRai (Indian laburnum) flower, and a serpent, கங்கை, சந்திரன், கொன்றை, பாம்பு இவற்றை அணிந்த இறைவன்; பணி (paNi) : serpent;

நடமிடு புலியூர்க் குமரேசா (nadamidu puliyUrk KumarEsA) : dances in PuliyUr (Chidhambaram), and You belong there, KumarEsA. நடனமாடும் புலியூரின் (சிதம்பரத்தின்) குமரேசனே,

கறுவிய நிருதர் (kaRuviya niruthar) : When angry demons (asuras) came to fight You, கோபத்தோடு வந்த அசுரர்களை,

எறி திரை பரவு கடலிடை பொடியாப் பொருதோனே ( eRi thirai paravu kadlidai podiyAp poruthOnE) : they were decimated and scattered around the wavy seas by Your might. வீசுகின்ற அலைகள் நிறைந்த கடலிடத்தில் தூளாக்கிப் போர் செய்தவனே,

கழலிணை பணியும் அவருடன் முனிவு (kazhaliNai paNiyum avarudan munivu) : Anger towards Your devotees who worship Your twin feet adorned by anklets திருவடிகளின் வீரக் கழல்களை வணங்குவோரிடம்

கனவிலும் அறியாப் பெருமாளே. ( kanavilum aRiyAp perumALE.) : is unknown to You even in Your dreams, Oh Great One! கோபம் காட்டுவதைக் கனவிலும் அறியாத கருணாமூர்த்திப் பெருமாளே. -
