The song vanjam kondum describes in graphic detail the war scene between vanaras and Ravana – how the vanaras hurl uprooted trees and boulders that come down heavily, crushing the enemy and driving the entire clan of the demons to the South, the direction ruled by YamA, and how amidst the relentless onslaught of arrows, Ravana keeps boasting in vain about his valor.

The mayil vaguppu describes the fight between Ravana's son Indrajeet and Lakshmana. Indrajeet throws the nagastra on Lakshmana, which is countered by the fierce Garuda. On seeing Garuda, the nagastra-serpents get scared and run away, and Lakshmana is revived; Garuda becomes haughty; the peacock falls over Garuda like a thunder, attacks him and destroys his arrogance. Note that வீடணன் அரும் தமையன் மைந்தன் (veedaNan arum thamaiyan maindhan) refers to the son of the brother of Vibhishana, i.e., Ravana's son Indrajeet.

The most memorable scene in Ramayana is the fight between Rama and Lakshmana with Ravana. Hanuman assumes a huge form (viswaroopa) and carries Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders. This is described in the following lines from தோலொடு மூடிய

In the fierce final battle that ensued between Rama and Ravana, Ravana cries in deep agony as portrayed below in பரிமள மிகவுள

More examples from Thiruppugazh follow below:

  1. The song pagira ninaivoru mentions that Rama slayed Ravana with a single arrow (with Brahmastra given to him by the sage Agastya)
    நிசிசரன் மகுடம் ஒருபதும் இருபது திரள்புய வரையும்
    அறவொரு கணை தெரி புயல்

  2. A few lines from niraamaya describe Ravana's complexion and his voice (night-like complexion and a crying-toned voice) இராகவ இராமன் முன் இராவண இரா வ(ண்)ண

  4. உலுத்த ராவணனை சிரம் இற்றிட வதைத்து

Rama has been coronated as the king of Ayodhya. He has banished His wife Sita, who gives birth to Luv and Kush in the forest. The interesting episode in uttara kanda of Ramayana is described in piRaviyaana jadam where he mentions that the twin children of Rama, namely Luv and Kush, fight against their father at Siruvapuri.
