மைந்தா ருந்தோள் மைந்தா அந்தா
வந்தே யிந்தப்பொழுதாள்வாய்

குன்றாள் கொங்கைக்கினியோனே
குன்றே டுஞ்சூ ழம்பே ழுஞ்சூ

Paraphrase

வெம் காளம் பாணம் சேல் கண் (vengALam bANam cEl kaN) : Eyes similar to deadly poison, bow, 'sel' fish, வெம் காளம் = கொடிய விடம்;

பால் மென்பாகு அஞ்சொற் குயில் (pAl men pAkam chol kuyil ) : dulcet voice comparable to milk, soft syrup of jaggery and cuckoo

மாலை மென் கேசம் தானென்றே கொண்டார் (mAlai men kEsam thAn enRE koNdAr) : soft hair dark as night, மாலை = இருண்ட;

மென் தோள் ஒன்றப் பொருள் தேடி (men thOL onRa poruL thEdi ) : to earn money to be able to hug the soft shoulders of concubines with all the above attributes,

வங்காளம் சோனம் சீனம் போய் (vangALam sOnam ceenam pOy) : should I go to distant places such as Bengal, Sonakaam and China,

வன்பே துன்பப் படலாமோ (vambE thunba padalAmO) :and suffer unnecessarily?

மைந்து ஆருந்தோள் மைந்தா அந்தா (maindhu ArunthOL mainthA anthA) :Oh handsome Kumara with strong shoulders, மைந்து ஆரும் = வலிமை மிக்க; அந்தன் = அழகன்;

வந்தே இந்தப் பொழுது ஆள்வாய் (vanthE inthap pozhuthALvAy) : Come this instant and rule my life

கொங்கார் பைந்தேன் உண்டே வண்டார் குன்றாள் கொங்கைக்கு இனியோனே (kongAr painthEn uNdE vaNdAr kunRAL kongkaikku iniyOnE ) : You hug sweetly the bosoms of Vali who lives in the hills (Valli hills) where bees feast on fragrant honey. வாசனை மிக்க பசுந்தேனை உண்ணும் வண்டுகள் நிறைந்த வள்ளிமலையில் வசிக்கும் வள்ளியின் மார்பை இனிமையாக அணைவோனே,

குன்றோடும் சூழ் அம்பேழும் சூரும் (kunROdum sUzh ambEzhum sUrum) : The demon Suran and the the seven mountains and the seven seas that fortressed him; அம்பு/அப்பு : கடல்;

போய் மங்கப் பொரு கோபா (pOY mangap porukObA) : You battled angrily so as to destroy these!

கங்காளம் சேர் மொய்ம்பு ஆர் அன்பார் கன்றே (kangALam sEr moympAr anbAr kanRE) : You are the beloved son of Shiva who wears a garland of bones and skulls on his shoulders; எலும்பு கூடுகளை தம் வலிமையான தோள்களில் சுமந்த சிவமூர்த்திக்கு அன்புடைய இளங்குமாரரே! மொய்ம்பு = வலிமை, தோள்; கங்காளம் = எலும்புக் கூடு. சர்வ சம்ஹார காலத்தில் மாண்ட மாலயனாதி வானவர்களுடைய எலும்புக் கூடுகளைச் சிவபெருமான் தோளில் தரித்துக் கொண்டு அருளினார்.

கம்பு ஊர் சிந்தார் தென்பால் வந்தாய் (kampUr sinthAr thenpAl vanthAy) : you came to dwell on the southern shores of the sea abounding in shells; கம்பு ஊர் சிந்து = சங்குகள் தவழும் சமுத்திரம்.

கந்தா செந்திற் பெருமாளே. ( kanthA senthiR perumALE.) : Kandha, resident of Tiruchendur!
