ஓங்கும் ஐம்புலன் ஓட நினைத்து இன்பயர்வேனை (Ongum aimpulan Oda ninaiththu in bayarvEnai) : I run behind the pleasures offered by the five senses, despairing and tiring out as a result,

ஓம் பெறும் ப்ரண வாதி உரைத்து எந்தனை ஆள்வாய் (Om peRum praNavAdhi uraiththu endhanai ALvAy) : You have to teach me all the sacred ManthrAs like AUM and reign my life;

வாங்கி வெங்கணை சூரர் குலக்கொம்புகள் தாவி (vAngi venkaNai sUrar kulam kombu kadAvi) : The young asura warriors aim terrible arrows by bending their bows, but வில்லை வளைத்து கொடிய அம்புகளை ஏவி சூரர் குல இளைஞர்கள் பாய்ந்துவர, சூரர் குலக்கொம்பு(sUrar kula kombu) : the scions of the Asura clan;

வாங்கி நின்றன ஏவில் உகைக்கும் குமரேசா (vAngi nindrana Evi lugaikkung kumarEsA) : You smash the encircling army by sending arrows Yourself, Oh Kumaresa! வளைத்து நின்ற சூரர் சேனையை அம்பைச் செலுத்தியே வென்ற குமரேசனே! வாங்கி (vaangi) : bending; வாங்கி நின்றன (vAngi nindrana) : வளைந்து நின்ற ஏ (ae) : arrow; உகை (ugai) : drive;

மூங்கில் அம் புய வாசமணக் குஞ்சரி மானும் மூண்ட பைங் குற மாது மணக்கும் திருமார்பா (mUngil ambuya vAsa maNakkum kunjari mAnum mUNda paingkuRa mAdhu maNakkum thirumArbA) : Oh beautiful chested one!
