Paraphrase

The poet-saint Arunagirinathar prays that the Lord should gracefully enter his mind and exhort him to praise His feet and take refuge in them. And how should He enter his thoughts? He should come happily on a dancing peacock, his anklets jingling, his body fully dabbed with fragrant sandalwood and decked with garlands of kadappa flowers.

சந்தனம் திமிர்ந்து அணைந்து (santhanam thimirnthu aNainthu) : Smearing sandalwood paste mixed with திமிர்ந்து = பூசி

குங்குமம் கடம்பு இலங்கு சண்பகம் செறிந்து இலங்கு திரள் தோளும் (kungumam kadambu ilangu saNbagam seRinthu ilangu thiraL thOLum) : vermillion on Your body, and mighty shoulders adorned with kadappa and elegant Shanbaga flowers;

தண்டை அம் சிலம்பு அலம்ப வெண்டையம் சலன் சல் என்று (thaNdaiyanj cilampu alampa veNdaiyam chalanchal enRu) : victorious anklets (thandai and silambu) clinking and the special anklet (veNdaiyam) of bravery tinkling "Chalanchal",

சஞ்சிதம் சதங்கை கொஞ்ச மயில் ஏறி ( sanju itham sathangai konja mayilERi) : and little beads (kiNkiNi) jingling pleasantly as You mount Your peacock,

திந்திமிந் திமிந்தி மிந்தி தந்தனந் தனந்தனந் என்று சென்று அசைந்து உகந்து வந்து (thinthi minthi minthi minthi thantha nantha nanthana senRu asainthu uganthu vanthu ) : that is dancing to the meter of "thinthi minthi minthi minthi thantha nantha nanthana" and You move slowly and with pleasure towards me;

க்ருபையோடே சிந்தை அம் குலம் புகுந்து (krupaiyOdE sinthai am kulam pugunthu ) : to enter the Temple of my Thoughts graciously!

சந்ததம் புகழ்ந்து உணர்ந்து செம் பதம் பணிந்து இரு என்று மொழிவாயே ( santhatham pukaznthu uNarnthu sempatham paNinthiru enRu mozhivAyE) : and impress on my mind that I should always keep praising Your lotus feet after realising their greatness, and surrender to them.

அந்த மந்தி கொண்டு இலங்கை வெந்து அழிந்து (antha manthi koNdu ilangai venthu azhinthu) : After that famous monkey, HanumAn, set fire to LankA destroying it; பேர்போன அந்தக் குரங்கு ஹனுமாரைக் கொண்டு லங்கை வெந்து அழியவும்,

இடும்ப கண்டன் அங்கமும் குலைந்து (idumba kaNdan angamum kulainthu) : the evil demon RAvaNA's body was decimated, கொடிய வீரனாகிய ராவணன் உடல் அழிந்து; இடும்பு = அகந்தை; கண்டன் = 1.வீரன் 2.கணவன் 3.தலைவன் 4.கழுத்துடையவன் 5.கொடியோன்;

அரம் கொள் பொடியாக (aram koL podiyAga) : and razed as though with hacksaw, into dust; ரம்பத்தினால் ராவிய தூள்போல ஆகவும்,

அம்ப கும்பனும் கலங்க ( amba kumpanum kalanga) : the well-armed KumbakarNan, arrows and all, was devastated, அம்பு முதலிய பாணங்களைக் கொண்ட கும்பகர்ணனும் உள்ளம் கலங்குமாறுகும்பன் (kumban) : Kumbhakarna;

வெம் சினம் புரிந்து நின்று அம்பு கொண்டு வென்ற கொண்டல் மருகோனே (venjinam purinthu ninRu ambu koNdu venRa koNdal marukOnE ) : when Rama, with cloud-like hue and full of rage, fought victoriuously with his arrows at the battle field; You are the nephew of that Rama;

இந்துவும் கரந்தை தும்பை கொன்றையும் சலம் புனைந்திடும் (inthuvum karanthai thumbai konRaiyum salam punainthidum) : With a crescent moon, green VibUthi leaves, thumbai (leucas) flowers and kondRai (Indian laburnum) flowers, along with River Ganga adorning His tresses, கரந்தை (karanthai): sweet basil, திருநீற்றுப்பச்சை; சலம் (chalam) : water, here, it symbolizes the river Ganges;

பரன் தன் அன்பில் வந்த குமரேசா (paran than anbil vantha kumarEsA) : Is Lord SivA whose love for DEvAs gave forth You in birth, Oh KumarEsA

: After restoring to Indra his kingdom and wiping away Devas' fears, You chose this place, Brahmapureeswarar temple at ENkaN, as Your abode, Oh Great One!
