Paraphrase

கரி வா(வு)ம் பரி தேர் திரள் சேனையும் உடனாம் (kari vAm pari thEr thiraL sEnaiyum udanAm) : With the armies consisting of elephants, horses of great speed, chariots and soldiers; கரி (kari) : elephant; வா(வு)ம் பரி ( va(vu)m pari) : leaping horse;

துரியோதனன் ஆதிகள் களம் மாண்டிடவே ஒரு பாரதம் அதில் ஏகி (thuriyOthanan AthigaL kaLam mANdidavE oru bAratham athil Egi) : DhuriyOdhanan and others of his clan perished. Participating in the War of BhAratha, (Krishna) went to that battlefield, ஒரு பாரதம் அதில் ஏகி (oru bAratham athil Egi) : driving the unique Mahabharatha war, ஒப்பற்ற பாரத யுத்தத்தில் இறங்கி;

கன பாண்டவர் தேர் தனிலே (gana pANdavar thEr thanilE ) : mounted the chariot of the famous PAndavAs,

எழு பரி தூண்டிய சாரதியாகிய (ezhu pari thUNdiya sArathiyAgiya) : and drove the (seven) galloping horses as the charioteer. ஏழு குதிரைகளைத் தூண்டிச் செலுத்திய பாகனும்,

கதிர் ஓங்கிய நேமியனாம் அரி ரகுராமன் (kathir Ongiya nEmiyanAm ari ragu rAman) : He holds in His hand the bright wheel of Sudharsana; and He is Hari and Raghuraman; நேமியனாம் அரி (nEmiyanAm ari) : Vishnu holding the Sudarshana chakra, சக்கரத்தை உடைய திருமால்;

திரை நீண்டு இரை வாரியும் வாலியும் (thirai neeNdu irai vAriyum vAliyum) : (As Rama, He tamed) the roaring wavy ocean, VAli, இரை வாரியும் (irai vAriyum) : roaring sea, ஒலிக்கும் கடல்;

ராமர் சீதையை மீட்க இலங்கை செல்வதற்காக கடலில் பாலம் அமைக்க கடற்கரையில் தருப்பைகளைப் பரப்பி, வருணனை நினைத்து, கடல் அரசனை வணங்கி, அலைகளை ஓய்ந்திருக்கச் செய்யும்படி வேண்டினார். மூன்று நாட்கள் கரத்தைத் தலையணையாக வைத்து கிழக்கு முகமாகப் படுத்தார். இருந்தும் கடல் அரசன் ராமர் முன்பாக தோன்றாததானால் அவர் கடல் மீது பாணம் எய்ய முயன்றார். இதனால் பயந்துபோன சமுத்திரராஜன், மனைவி சமுத்திர ராணியுடன் தோன்றி ராமபிரானை சரணடைந்தான். வருணபகவான் நேரில் தோன்றி ராமபிரானிடம் தாமதத்துக்கு மன்னிப்பு கேட்டுக்கொண்டு, கடல் அலைகளை ஓய்ந்திருக்கும்படிச் செய்தார்.

நெடிது ஓங்கு மரா மரம் ஏழொடு (nedithu Ongum marA maram Ezhodu ) : the seven tall mara trees,

தெசமாம் சிர ராவணனார் முடி பொடியாக (thesamAm chira rAvaNanAr mudi podiyAga) : the ten heads of RAvaNA — all these were destroyed or turned into powder,

சிலை வாங்கிய நாரணனார் மருமகனாம் குகனே (chilai vAngkiya nAraNanAr marumagaAm guganE:) : by wielding His bow. He is Narayana, and You are His favourite nephew, Oh GuhA!

பொழில் சூழ்தரு திருவேங்கட மாமலை மேவிய பெருமாளே. (pozhil chUzhtharu thiruvEngada mAmalai mEviya perumALE.) : You reside in the holy hill of ThiruvEngkadam, surrounded by groves, Oh Great One!

எனது ஆம் தனது ஆனவை போய் அற (enathu Am thanathu Anavai pOy aRa) : In order that the concept of me and mine is eradicated,

மலமாம் கடு மோக விகாரமும் இவை நீங்கிடவே (malamAm kadu mOga vigAramum ivai neengkidavE) : and for destroying the erotic thoughts stemming from the three slags (of haughtieness, karma and delusion),அசுத்தமாகிய கடிய மோக விகாரங்களாகிய குற்றங்கள் நீங்குமாறு,
