Paraphrase

The thought of the gruesome Yama hurling a noose around my neck and dragging me away from grieving family members distresses me, says Saint Arunagirinathar. He pleads that Murugan should appear before him dressed exquisitively at that very juncture, riding on His pecock and carrying the dzzling 'vel' and offer him the sanctuary of His feet.

தமரம் குரங்களும் கார் இருள் பிழம்பு மெழுகிய அங்கமும் ( thamara kurangaLum kAriruL pizhambu mezhugiya angamum) : "(This buffalo has) hooves making loud noise; a black body, as if a mound of darkness has been splashed on it; "ஒலி செய்கின்ற (கால்) குளம்புகளும், இருளைப் பிழிந்து அவ் இருட்குழம்பை மெழுகியது போன்ற மிகவும் கருமையான உடம்பையும், தமரம் (thamaram) : making sound, ஒலி செய்கின்ற; குரங்கள் (kurangaL) : hoofs;

பார்வையில் கொளுந்து தழல் உமிழ் கண்களும் ( pArvaiyil koLundhu thazhal umizh kaNgaLum) : eyes, like fireballs, emitting blazing sparks; பார்க்கும் பார்வையில் எரிகின்ற நெருப்பைக் கக்கும் கண்களும்,

காளம் ஒத்த கொம்பும் உ(ள்)ள கதம் கடமா மேல் (kALam oththa kombum uLa katham kadamA mEl) : and horns similar to the dark / Halāhala (Sanskrit हलाहल) poison - mounted on such an angry buffalo! காளம் (kALam : dark, black; கருமை, இருள்; கதம் (katham) : angry/briskly moving; ஓட்டம்/சினம்; கடமா (kadamA) : மதயானை போன்ற எருமை; [ஆலகாலவிடம் போன்ற இருண்ட கொம்புகளை உடையதும், வேகமாகச் செல்லும்/கோபத்துடன் வரும் எருமைக் கிடாவின் மீது

கமல முகங்களும் கோமளத்து இலங்கு நகையு(ம்) நெடும் க(ண்)ணும் (kamala mugangaLum kOmaLath thilangu nagaiyum nedunkaNum) : (You must come to me) with Your lotus-like faces gorgeously grinning, long eyes, தாமரை போன்ற திருமுகங்களும், அவற்றில் அழகுடன் விளங்குகின்ற புன்சிரிப்பும், நீண்ட கண்களும்,

காதினில் துலங்கு கனக குதம்பையும் தோடும் வஜ்ர அங்கதமும் அடர் சுடர் வேலும் (kAdhinil thulangu kanaka kudhambaiyum thOdum vajra angadhamum adaR sudaR vElum) : golden ear-rings dangling graciously from the earlobes, studs, shoulder-braces set with diamonds and gems, Your triumphant and dazzling spear, காதில் விளங்கும் பொன்னாலான காதணியும், தோடும், வைர ரத்தினத்தால் ஆகிய தோள் அணியாகிய வாகுவலயமும், வெற்றி பொருந்திய ஒளி வீசும் வேலாயுதமும்,

கடிது உலகு எங்கணும் தாடி இட்டு வந்த மயிலும் (kadidhu ulagu engaNum thAdiyittu vandha mayilum) : the peacock that has just returned from a swift flight around the world, விரைவாக உலக முழுதும் பயணம் சென்று வந்த மயிலும், தாடி (thAdi) : தாவடி, தாவு + அடி. = பிரயாணம், Journey;

இலங்கு அலங்கார பொன் சதங்கை கழல் ஒலி தண்டையம் காலும் (ilangu alankAra poR sadhangai kazhaloLi thaNdaiyam kAlum) : the elegant and ornamented feet wearing golden anklets, studded with stones, making lilting sounds of victory; விளங்கும் அலங்காரமாய் உள்ள பொன்னாலான சதங்கை, வீரக் கழல்கள், ஒலிக்கும் தண்டைகள் அணிந்த திருவடிகளும்,

இமகிரி வந்த பொன் பாவை பச்சை வஞ்சி (imagiri vandha pon pAvai pachchai vanji) : She is PArvathi, daughter of Mount HimavAn, looking like a pretty doll; She is like a vanji (rattan reed) creeper of emerald-green hue; இமகிரியின் அரசன் பெற்ற அழகிய பதுமையாகிய பார்வதி, பச்சை நிறம் கொண்ட இளங் கொடி,

அகில தலம் பெறும் பூவை சத்தி அம்பை ( akila thalam peRum pUvai saththi ambai) : She delivered all the worlds; She is known as ParAsakthi and Mother UmAdEvi; அண்டங்களை எல்லாம் பெற்ற பூவை, சக்தி அம்பை எனப்படும் உமா தேவியின்

இள முலையின் செழும் பால் குடித்து இலங்கும் இயல் நிமிர்த்திடுவோனே (iLa mulaiyin sezhum pAl kuddith ilangum iyal nimirththiduvOnE) : from Her tender bosom, You (coming as ThirugnAna Sambandhar), imbibed the Heavenly milk of Absolute Knowledge and straightened the innate hunchback of King KUn PANdiyan, Oh Lord! இளமையான மார்பிலிருந்து தேர்ந்த ஞானமாகிய பாலைக் குடித்து விளங்குகின்ற (சம்பந்தராக வந்து), (பாண்டியனுக்கு) இயற்கையாக அமைந்த கூனை நிமிர்த்தியவனே.

இறைவர் இறைஞ்ச நின்று ஆகம ப்ரசங்கம் உரை செய்திடும் ப்ரசண்டா (iRaivar iRainja nindr Agama prasangam urai seydhidum prachaNdA) : Upon the humble request by Lord SivA, You stood before Him and preached the fundamentals of the scriptural texts, Oh valorous One! சிவபெருமான் வணங்கிக் கேட்க, அவர் முன் நின்று ஆகம ஞான உபதேசம் செய்த வீரனே,

விசித்து நின்ற ரண முக துங்க வெம் சூர் உடல் பிளந்த அயில் உடை கதிர்வேலா (visiththu nindra raNamuka thunga venchUr udal piLandha ayiludai kadhir vElA) : When the evil demon SUran confronted You in the battlefield commanding all his forces, You wielded the sparkling spear and split his body into two, Oh Lord! பேரணிகளை இறுகக் கட்டி போர் முனைக்கு வந்து எதிர்த்த கொடிய சூரனுடைய உடலைப் பிளந்த வேலாயுதத்தை உடைய ஒளி வீசும் வேலனே, விசித்தல் = இறுகக்கட்டுதல்;

அமணர் அடங்கலும் கூடலில் திரண்டு (amaNar adangalum kUdalil thiraNdu) : When all the ChamaNas assembled in multitude in Madhurai (and lost their debate), சமணர்கள் அனைவரும் மதுரையில் கூட்டமாக (வாதிட்டுத் தோற்றபின்)

கழுவில் உதைந்து உதைந்து ஏற விட்டு நின்ற அபிநவ (kazhuvil udhaindh udhaindhu Era vittu nindra abinava) : You witnessed their mass self-immolation, each one taking turn in kicking off the pedal at the gallows, Oh Unique Leader! ஒவ்வொருவரும் கழுமுனையில் காலூன்றி உதைத்து ஏறி இறக்கும்படி விட்டு நின்ற புதுமைப் பிரானே,

துங்க கங்கா நதிக்கு மைந்த அடியவர்க்கு எளியோனே ( thunga gangA nadhikku maindha adiyavarkku eLiyOnE) : You are the son of the crystal-clear and pure river, Ganga! You are easily accessible to Your devotees! பரிசுத்தமான கங்கை நதிக்கு மகனே, அடியவர்களுக்கு எளிமையானவனே,

அமரர் வணங்கு(ம்) கந்தா (amarar vaNangu kandhA) : Oh Lord KandhA, You are worshipped by the celestials! தேவர்கள் தொழும் கந்தனே,

குறத்தி கொங்கை தனில் முழுகும் கடம்பா (kuRaththi kongai thanil muzhugum kadambA) : Wearing the garland of kadappa flowers, You drown Yourself in the bosom of VaLLi, the damsel of the KuRavAs! குறப் பெண்ணாகிய வள்ளியின் மார்புகளில் முழுகிய, கடப்ப மாலை அணிந்தவனே,

மிகுத்த செம் சொல் அருணை நெடும் தடம் கோபுரத்து அமர்ந்த அறுமுகப் பெருமாளே. (miguththa senchol aruNai nedun thadam gOpurath thamarndha aRumugap perumALE.) : This town ThiruvaNNAmalai is famous for its glory, and on its tall tower, You, the six-faced one, are seated with relish, Oh Great One! மிகவும் வல்ல புகழ் விளங்கும் திருவண்ணாமலையின் பெரிய கோபுரத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கும் ஆறுமுகப் பெருமாளே.
