Paraphrase

சால நெடு நாள் மடந்தை காயமதிலே அலைந்து (sAla nedu nAL madanthai kAyamathilE alainthu) : For several long days, I rolled inside the womb of a woman,

சா(கு)ம் அளவதாக வந்து புவிமீதே சாதகமுமான பின்பு (sA(gu)m aLavathAga vanthu puvi meethE sAthakamumAna pinbu) : and suffered pangs akin to death. Then, I took birth on this earth.

சீறி அழுதே கிடந்து தாரணியிலே தவழ்ந்து விளையாடி (seeRi azhuthE kidanthu thAraNiyilE thavazhnthu viLaiyAdi) : I screamed aloud lying on the ground, crawled on the floor and later played around;

பாலன் எனவே மொழிந்து (bAlan enavE mozhinthu ) : I babbled like a child,

பாகுமொழி மாதர் தங்கள் பார தன மீது அணைந்து ( pAgu mozhi mAthar thangaL bAra thana meethu Nainthu) : and later, I hugged the large bosoms of sweet-tongued women;

பொருள் தேடிப் பார்மிசையிலே உழன்று (poruL thEdi pArmisaiyilE uzhanRu) : I rambled on toiling in this world in search of wealth,

பாழ் நரகு எய்தாமல் ஒன்று(ம்) பாதமலர் சேர அன்பு தருவாயே (pAzh naragu eiythAmal onRu pAtha malar sEra anbu tharuvAyE) : kindly bless me with love to attain Your hallowed lotus feet so that I do not end up in this wretched hell,

ஆலம் அமுதாக உண்ட ஆறு சடை நாதர் (Alam amuthAga uNda ARu sadai nAthar) : The lord who consumed the deadly poison as if it was nectar and holds the river Ganga on His tresses,

திங்கள் ஆடரவு பூணர் தந்த முருகோனே (thingaL Adaravu pUNar thantha murugOnE ) : and wears the crescent moon and the serpent that dances with a raised hood; that Lord SivA delivered You, Oh MurugA! ஆடரவு (ஆடு+அரவு)(Adaravu) : dancing serpent;

ஆனை மடு வாயில் அன்று மூலமென ஓலம் என்ற (Anai madu vAyil anRu mUlamena Olam enRa) : Once, the elephant GajEndran was caught in a pond (by a crocodile) and screamed "Oh Primordial One! I surrender to You!" praying to

ஆதி முதல் நாரணன் தன் மருகோனே ( Athi muthal nAraNan than marugOnE) : the primordial God, Narayana. You are the nephew of that Vishnu!

கோல மலர் வாவி எங்கு மேவு புனம் வாழ் மடந்தை ( kOla malar vAvi yengu mEvupunam vAzh madanthai ) : She lived in a millet-field surrounded by numerous ponds filled with beautiful flowers;

கோவை அமுது ஊறல் உண்ட குமரேசா (kOvai amuthURal uNda kumarEsA) : You kissed that damsel VaLLi's lips, red like the kovai fruit, and tasted the nectar, Oh Lord Kumara!

கூடி வரு சூர் அடங்க மாள வடிவேல் எறிந்த (kUdi varu sUr adanga mALa vadivEl eRintha) : You threw a sharp spear and killed the demon Suran who rushed forward, having joined his body halves into one;

கோடைநகர் வாழ வந்த பெருமாளே. (kOdainagar vAzha vantha perumALE.) : You have Your abode in KOdainagar, Oh Great One!
