For saints and self-realized souls, neither the physical body holds any attraction, nor the various embellishments such as dresses and ornaments, or comforts such as luxurious beds, and delectable gourmet foods. Even close family members don't attract them. They just want to be drenched in the grace of God.
குருதி கிருமிகள் சல(ம்) மல(ம்) மயிர் தசை (kuruthi kirumigaL sala(m) mala(m) mayir thasai) : Blood, germs, urine, faeces, hair and flesh –
மருவும் உருவமும் அலம் அலம் (maruvum uruvamum alam alam) : I am fed up and frustrated, having assumed this body, made up of these elements, in several births; அலம் (alam) : enough, போதும்;
அழகொடு குலவு பல பணி பரிமளம் அறு சுவை மடை பாயல் (azhagodu kulavu pala paNi parimaLam aRu suvai madai pAyal) : Many exquisitely dainty jewels, fragrant perfumes, several delicious cuisines, beds and அழகோடு விளங்கும் பல விதமான அணிகலன்களும் நறு மணமுள்ள வாசனைப் பொருள்களும் ஆறு சுவைகள் கூடிய சோறு, படுக்கை பாயல் (pAyal) : bed; மடை (madai) : food, சோறு;
குளிர் இல் அறை அகம் இவைகளும் அலம் அலம் ( kuLir il aRai agam ivaigaLum alam alam) : cosy house with warm rooms - I have had enough of these. குளிர் இல்லாத அடக்கமான அறைகள் கொண்ட வீடு: இவைகளும் போதும் போதும்.
மனைவி மகவு அ(ன்)னை அநுசர்கள் முறை முறை குனகு கிளைஞர்கள் இவர்களும் அலம் அலம் (manaivi magavu a(n)nai anusarkaL muRai muRai kunaku kiLainjarkaL ivargaLum alam alam) : Wife, children, mother, siblings, and many people claiming some kind of relationship - I have had enough of these; அநுசர் (anuchar) : based on the sanskrit word 'anuja', it means 'sahodara' or siblings; முறை முறை குனகு கிளைஞர்கள் (muRai muRai kunaku kiLainjarkaL) : உறவு முறை கூறி கொஞ்சிக் குலவும் சுற்றத்தினர்;
ஒரு நாலு சுருதி வழி மொழி சிவ கலை அலது இனி உலக கலைகளும் அலம் அலம் (oru nAlu suruthi vazhimozhi sivakalai alathu ini ulaga kalaigaLum alam alam) : Except the four VEdic scriptures and the Saiva treatises that deal with them, I do not want to study any of the worldly works. வேதங்களின் மார்க்கங்களை எடுத்து கூறும் சைவ சித்தாந்த நூல்கள் தவிர வேறு உலக சம்பந்தமான நூல்களை ஓதுதல் போதும்.
இலகிய தொலைவு இல் உனை நினைபவர் உறவும் அலது (ilagiya tholaivu il unai ninaibavar uRavu alathu) : Rather than seeking the company of those who think of You alone, the Illuminated and Immortal One, விளங்கி நிற்பவனும், அழிவிலாதவனுமான உன்னை நினைப்பவர்களுடைய நட்புத் தவிர இனி அயலார்களிடத்தே
இனி அயலார் பால் சுழல்வது இனிது என வசமுடன் வழிபடும் உறவு அலம் அலம் (ini ayalArpAl suzhalvathu inithu ena vasamudan vazhipadum uRavum alam alam) : I have been roaming around others, totally enticed by them and worshipping them; I have had enough of that kind of friendship. இனி பிறரிடத்தே திரிவது நல்லது என்று அவர்கள் வசப்பட்டு, அவர்களைப் பின்பற்றி வழிபடுகின்ற நட்பும் போதும் போதும்.
அருள் அலை கடல் கழி துறை செல் அறிவினை எனது உளம் மகிழ்வுற அருள்வாயே (aruL alai kadal kazhi thuRai cel aRivinai yenathu uLa magizhvuRa aruLvAyE) : I wish to tread the shore of the Ocean where Your waves of grace are blowing; kindly grant me that Knowledge to delight my mind! உனது திருவருள் அலைகள் வீசும் கடலின் துறை வழியில் கால்கள் செல்லும் அறிவை என்னுடைய உள்ளம் மகிழ்ச்சி பெற அருள் புரிவாயாக.
விருது முரசுகள் மொகு மொகு மொகு என முகுற (viruthu murasugaL mogu mogu moguvena muguRa) : Symbolising victory, the drums were beaten making a loud noise; முகுற (mukuRa) : குமுற;
ககபதி முகில் திகழ் முகடு அதில் விகட இறகுகள் பறை இட ( gagapathi mugil thigazh mukadathil vikada iRakukaL paRai ida) : Garudan, the King Eagle, stretched his two large wings and encircled the cloudy sky;
அலகைகள் நடமாட (alagaigaL nadamAda) : the devils commenced their dance of joy;
விபுதர் அரகர சிவ சிவ சரண் என (viputhar aragara siva siva saraN ena) : the celestials prayed loudly "Hara Hara, SivA SivA, We seek Your refuge";
விரவு கதிர் முதிர் இம கரன் வலம் வர ( viravu kathir muthir imakaran valam vara) : The Sun and the Moon, with cool rays, went around You; பொருந்திய (கதிர்) சூரியனும் குளிர் நிறைந்த கிரணங்களை உடைய சந்திரனும் வலம் வர இமம் (imam) : frost, snow;
வினைகொள் நிசிசரர் பொடிபட அடல் செயும் வடிவேலா (vinai koL nisisarar podi pada adal seyum vadivElA) : and the evil-minded demons were all destroyed when You waged the war with Your sharp Spear, Oh Lord!
மருது நெறு நெறு நெறு என முறிபட (maruthu neRu neRu neRu ena muRipada ) : Once, two Marutha trees were broken to pieces
உருளும் உரலொடு தவழ் அரி மருக (uruLu muralodu thavazh ari maruga) : when Krishna rolled over crawling with His waist tied to the stone-mortar (ural); You are the nephew of that Vishnu!
செவ் வனசம் மலர் சுனை புலி நுழை முழை உடைய (sev vanasam malarsunai pulinuzhai muzhai udaiya) : Ponds where red lotus bloom and caves where tigers frequent abound at செந்தாமரை மலர்கின்ற சுனையும், புலி நுழையும் குகையும் கொண்ட; முழை (muzhai) : large mountain cave;
விராலி மலையில் உறைகிற அறு முக குருபர (virAli malaiyi luRaikiRa aRumuka gurupara) : VirAli Malai which is Your abode, Oh Six-faced One! You are the Great Master!
கயலும் மயிலையும் மகரமும் உகள் (kayalu mayilaiyu makaramum ugaL) : There are plenty of kayal fish, mayilai and makara fish jumping about in the கயல் மீன்களும் மயிலை என்னும் மீன்களும் சுறா மீன்களும் தாவித் திரியும், உகள் = தாவித் திரியும்;
செ(ந்)நெல் வயலி நகரியில் இறையவ அருள் தரு பெருமாளே.(senel vayali nakariyil iRaiyava aruL tharu perumALE.) : paddy-fields of VayalUr, where You are seated; You are always showering grace, Oh Great One!
