தண்டை அணி வெண்டையம் கிண்கிணி சதங்கையும் தண் சிலம்புடன் கொஞ்சவே (thaNdai aNi veNdaiyam kiNkiNi sadhangaiyun thaN kazhal silambudan konjavE) : thandai, vendaiyum, kinkini, sadangai kazhal and silambu are varieties of anklets; some like sathangai are strings of bells that jingle; others tinkle; With various anklets tinkling as though prattling lovingly; வெண்டையம் = வீரர் காலணி;

நின் தந்தையினை முன் பரிந்து இன் பவுரி கொண்டு நல் சந்தொடம் அணைந்து (nin thandhaiyinai mun parindhu inbavuri koNdu nan santhodam aNaindhu ) : You went affectionately before Your Father, danced and embraced Him happily. பவுரி — ஒரு வகை நடனம்

நின்ற அன்பு போல கண்டு உற கடம்புடன் சந்த மகுடங்களும் கஞ்ச மலர் செம் கையும் சிந்து வேலும் (ninRu anbu pOla kanduRa kadambudan sandha magudangaLum kanjamalar sengaiyum sindhuvElum ) : With similar unflinching love, I too should be able to see You with kadamba flowers, beautiful and ornate crowns, reddish lotus-like hands, the spear that destroyed the sUran or demon,

கண்களு(ம்) முகங்களும் சந்திர நிறங்களும் கண் குளிர என் தன் முன் சந்தியாவோ? (kaNgaLum mugangaLum chandhiRa niRangaLum kaN kuLira endan mun sandhiyAvO) : twelve eyes and six Divine faces, and the moonlit shining colours on those, with all these appear before me and cool my eyes.

புண்டரிகர் அண்டமும் கொண்ட பகிரண்டமும் பொங்கி எழ வெம் களம் கொண்ட போது (puNdarigar aNdamum koNda bagiraNdamum pongi ezha vengaLam koNda pOdhu) : The earth which was created by BrahmA (who sits on a lotus flower), and the encircling Universe which gobbled up the earth jumped with joy when You entered the battlefield.

பொன் கிரி என சிறந்து எங்கினும் வளர்ந்து முன் புண்டரிகர் தந்தையும் சிந்தை கூர (pongiri yena chiRandhu enginum vaLarndhu mun puNdarigar thandhaiyum sindhai kUra) : You stood like a golden mountain and expanded in all directions and elated the minds of Vishnu and Your father, SivA;
After destroying the demon, Murugan assumed the ViswarUpa form in the battlefield to the delight of Vishnu and SivA. முருகன் சூரனை வதைத்தபோது போர்க்களத்தில் விசுவரூபம் கொண்டார். அதனை திருமாலும், சிவனும் கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர். புண்டரிகர் (puNdarigar) : the lotus god Brahma; புண்டரிகர் தந்தை (puNdarigar thanthai) : father of Brahma-- Vishnu;

கொண்ட நடனம் பதம் செந்திலிலும் என் தன் முன் கொஞ்சி நடனம் கொளும் கந்த வேளே (koNda nadanam padham sendhililum endan mun konji nadanam koLum kandhavELE) : Those dancing feet of Yours are in this place, ThiruchchendhUr, and also dance in front of my eyes lovingly, Oh Kanda, handsome one like Manmatha!
It is believed that Arunagirinathar was blessed with the vision of the Lord when the saint visited Tiruchendur on the seventh day of the Brahmotsavam festival in the Tamil month of Masi. As the deity decorated was being taken out in a colourfully decorated chariot, in step with the tune of the song "Athala sedanaarada" rendered by Arunagirinathar, the Lord performed the dance to the delight of the sage.
