காலனார் வெம் கொடும் தூதர் பாசம் கொ(ண்)டு என் காலில் ஆர் தந்து உடன் கொ(ண்)டு போக (kAlanAr vem kodum dUthar pAsankodu enkAlir Ar thandhu udan kodupOga) : The relentless and tyrannical messengers of Yama bring a noose of rope with which to bind my breath and take my life along with them கால்(kaal) : wind; காலின் ஆர் தந்து —மூச்சுக்காற்றுடன் சேர்த்துக் கட்டி

காதலார் மைந்தரும் தாயராரும் சுடும் கானமே பின்தொடர்ந்து அலறாமுன் (kAdhalAr maindharum thAyarArum sudum gAnamE pin thodarndhualaRA mun) : Before my loving children, mother and other members follow me wailing all the way to the cremation site

சூலம் வாள் தண்டு செம் சேவல் கோதண்டமும் சூடு தோளும் தடம் திரு மார்பும் (sUlam vAL thaNdu senjsEval kOdhandamum sUdu thOLum thadam thirumArbum ) : (You must appear with) trident, sword, 'dandayutha' or club, rooster flag-staff and bow on the shoulders, broad and majestic chest; தடம் (thadam ) : broad;

தூய தாள் தண்டையும் காண ஆர்வம் செயும் தோகை மேல் கொண்டு முன் வரவேணும் (thUya thAL thaNdaiyum kANa Arvam seyun thOgai mEl kondu mun vara vENum ) : (and with) blemish-less feet with anklets, come before me on your peacock with bright plumage that spurs intense yearning to see;

ஆலகாலம் பரன் பாலதாக அஞ்சிடும் தேவர் வாழ அன்று (AlakAlam paran pAlathAga anjidum dhEvar vAzha andru ) : As Shiva swallowed the alakala poison in his throat as though it was milk to help the frightened devas to live peacefully, பாலதாக = பால் போல ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள;

உகந்து அமுது ஈயும் ஆரவாரம் செயும் வேலை மேல் கண் வளர்ந்த ஆதி மாயன் தன் நல் மருகோனே ( ugandhu amudhu eeyum AravAram seyum vElai mEl kaN vaLarndha Adhi mAyan than marugOnE) : Vishnu, the primordial god of illusion and who reclines on the noisy ocean in Yogic sleep, distributed amrita or nectar (in the guise of Mohini) to the celestials; You are His good nephew; வேலை (vElai) : ocean/sea;

சாலி சேர் சங்கினம் வாவி சூழ் பங்கயம் சாரல் ஆர் செந்தில் அம் பதி வாழ்வே (sAli sEr sanginam vAvi sUzh pangaiyam sAralAr sendhilam padhi vAzhvE) : You live in the beautiful Tiruchendur in the neighbourhood of which there are sea-shell filled paddy fields and lotus-filled ponds; நெல் வயல்களில் சேர்ந்துள்ள சங்கினங்களும் தாமரைகள் சூழ்ந்து நிறைந்துள்ள தடாகங்களும், அருகே அமைந்துள்ள அருமையான அழகிய திருச்செந்தூர் என்னும் செழும்பதியில் வாழ்கின்றவரே! சாலி (sAli) : red paddy; வாவி (vAvi) : ponds/lakes;

தாவு சூர் அஞ்சி முன் சாய வேகம் பெறும் தாரை வேல் உந்திடும் பெருமாளே. (ThAvu sUr anji mun sAya Vegam peRum thArai vEl undhidum perumALE.) : You flung the spear that spurts unrelentingly like a thunderburst to destroy the charging SUran, the mighty demon, Oh Great One! போருக்குத் தாவி வந்த சூரபன்மன் எதிர் நிற்க முடியாது அஞ்சி முன் சாய்ந்து அழிய, மழைத்தாரை பொழிவது போல் வேலாயுதத்தைச் செலுத்திய பெருமையில் சிறந்தவரே! தாரை வேல் = மழைத்தாரை போல் பொழியும் வேல்;
