Paraphrase

நிலையா பொருளை உடலா கருதி நெடு நாள் பொழுதும் அவமே போய் (nilaiyA poruLai udalAk karudhi nedunAL pozhudhum avamE pOy ) : Deluded into regarding the transient body as precious, I wasted many days;

நிறை போய் செவிடு குருடாய் பிணிகள் நிறைவாய் பொறிகள் தடுமாறி (niRai pOy sevidu kurudAyp piNigaL niRaivAy poRigaL thadumARi) : Emaciated and bereft of strength, I become deaf and blind, as the senses falter;

மல(ம்) நீர் சயனம் மிசையா பெருகி மடிவேற்கு உரிய நெறியாக (mala neer sayana misaiyAp perugi madivERku uriya neRiyAga) : Stools and urine leak into the bed as death approaches; to tread the right path at this juncture; மிசை - raised land, bed; மடிவேற்கு உரிய நெறியாக (madivERku uriya neRiyAga) : இறந்து போகிற எனக்கு சரியான பாதையாக;

மறை போற்ற அரிய ஒளியாய் பரவு மலர் தாள் கமலம் அருள்வாயே (maRai pOtRa ariya oLiyAy paravu malar thAL kamalam aruLvAyE) : give me your lotus feet that scriptures extol and from which indescribably bright light emanates; வேதங்களால் போற்றுதற்கு அரிதான, ஞான ஒளிவீசி விரிந்துள்ள தாமரைத் திருவடியை எனக்கு அருள்வாயாக.]

கொலை காட்டு அவுணர் கெட மா சலதி குளமாய் சுவற ( kolai kAttu avuNar keda mA chaladhi kuLamAy chuvaRa) : The murderous demons (asuras) were destroyed and the big ocean dried up into a little pond; and

முது சூதம் குறி போய் பிளவுபட மேல் கதுவு(ம்) கொதி வேல் படையை விடுவோனே (mudhu sUdham kuRi pOy piLavu pada mEl kadhuvu kodhi vEl padaiyai viduvOnE) : Surapadman in the guise of an old mango tree was hit and split into two when You threw the fiery Spear at it; முதிர்ந்த மாமரமானது குறியின்படி பட்டு பிளந்து அழியுமாறு மேலே பற்றும்படியாக எரிவீசும் வேலாயுதத்தை விடுத்தவரே! கதுவுதல் = பற்றுதல்;

அழியா புநித வடிவாகும் அரனார்க்கு அதித பொருள் காட்டு அதிப அடியார்க்கு எளிய பெருமாளே. (azhiyA punidha vadivAgum araNArkku adhidha poruL kAttu adhiba adiyArkku eLiya perumALE.) : You taught Lord SivA, with an eternal form, the meaning of OM, which surpasses everything; You are easily accessible for Your devotees, Oh Great One! அழியாத பரிசுத்த வடிவுடைய சிவபெருமானுக்கு எல்லாங் கடந்த பொருளை விளக்கிக் காட்டி உபதேசித்த தலைவரே! அடியவர்க்கு எளியராய் இருந்து அருள்புரியும் பெருமையின் மிகுந்தவரே!
