கங்குல்பகல் என்று நின்று	விதியாலே
பண்டைவினை கொண்டு ழன்று வெந்துவிழு கின்றல் கண்டு
பங்கயப தங்கள் தந்து	புகழோதும்
பண்புடைய சிந்தை யன்பர் தங்களிலு டன்க லந்து
பண்புபெற அஞ்ச லஞ்ச	லெனவாராய்
வண்டுபடு கின்ற தொங்கல் கொண்டறநெ ருங்கி யிண்டு
வம்பினைய டைந்து சந்தின்	மிகமூழ்கி
வஞ்சியை முனிந்த கொங்கை மென்குறம டந்தை செங்கை
வந்தழகு டன்க லந்த	மணிமார்பா
திண்டிறல்பு னைந்த அண்டர் தங்களப யங்கள் கண்டு
செஞ்சமர்பு னைந்து துங்க	மயில்மீதே
சென்றசுரர் அஞ்ச வென்று குன்றிடை மணம்பு ணர்ந்து
செந்தில்நகர் வந்த மர்ந்த	பெருமாளே.

Paraphrase

Saint Arunagirinathar pleads for the company of true devotees of the lord, so that he could be freed from the lure of concubines.

கண்டு மொழி கொம்பு கொங்கை வஞ்சி இடை அம்பு நஞ்சு கண்கள் குழல் கொண்டல் என்று பலகாலும் கண்டு உளம் வருந்தி நொந்து (kaNdu mozhi kombu kongai vanji idai ambu nanju kaNgaL kuzhal koNdal enRu palakAlum kaNdu uLam varunthi nonthu ) : Their speech is sweet as a candy, their bosoms are like the tusks of an elephant, their waists are slender like a reed, eyes are poison-smeared darts, and the hair is wavy like the dark clouds : believing so for a long time, and with tormented and agitated mind

மங்கையர் வசம் புரிந்து கங்குல் பகல் என்று நின்று (mangaiyar vasam purinthu kangul pagal enRu ninRu) : I have become infatuated with prostitutes and obsess with their thoughts day and night; கங்குல் (kangkul) : night;

விதியாலே பண்டை வினை கொண்டு உழன்று வெந்து விழுகின்றல் கண்டு (vithiyAlE paNdai vinai koNdu uzhanRu venthu vizhuginRal kaNdu) : Seeing me mired and bogged down by the accursed fate and past bad deeds,

பங்கய பதங்கள் தந்து புகழோதும் பண்புடைய சிந்தை அன்பர் தங்களினுடன் கலந்து பண்பு பெற அஞ்சல் அஞ்சல் என வாராய் (pangaya pathangaL thanthu pukazh Othum paNpudaiya sinthai anbar thangaLinudan kalanthu paNbu peRa anjal anjal ena vArAy) : please give me your lotus-like feet as a reassurance of your refuge so that I may get refined by the company of your devotees who praise you constantly.

வண்டு படுகின்ற தொங்கல் கொண்டு அற நெருங்கியிண்டு வம்பினை அடைந்து ( vaNdu padukinRa thongal koNdu aRa nerungi yiNdu vambinai adainthu) : Wearing a garland swarming with bees, and wearing a tightly knit blouse over the bosom; வம்பு (vambu ) : A kind of corset worn by Indian women in ancient times that covered their bosoms; வண்டுகள் மொய்க்கின்ற மலர்மாலையைப் பூண்டு, மிக நெருக்கமாக நெய்த அழுத்தமான ரவிக்கையை அணிந்து; முலைக்கச்சு;

சந்தின் மிக மூழ்கி வஞ்சியை முனிந்த கொங்கை (santhin miga mUzhgi vanjiyai munintha kongai ) : the breasts, soaked in sandalwood paste, weighing down and burdening the slender creeper-like waist; சந்தனக்குழம்பில் மிகவும் முழுகி, வஞ்சிக் கொடி போன்ற இடையை வருத்துகின்ற மார்பினள்; சந்தின் = சந்தனக் குழம்பில்;

மென்குற மடந்தை செங்கை வந்தழகுடன் கலந்த மணிமார்பா (men kuRa madanthai sengai vanthazhakudan kalantha maNimArbA) : You go to the the delicate gypsy girl vaLLI (with the above descriptions), join hands and unite with her, oh God, with a broad and ornamented chest!

திண் திறல் புனைந்த அண்டர் தங்கள் அபயங்கள் கண்டு (thiN thiRal punaintha aNdar thangaL abayangaL kaNdu) : Seeing the valiant celestials seeking your refuge, திண்ணிய வலிமை கொண்ட தேவர்கள் நின்னிடம் அபயம் அடைய வேண்டுவதைக் கண்டு,

செம் சமர் புனைந்து துங்க மயில் மீதே சென்று அசுரர் அஞ்ச வென்று (sem samar punainthu thunga mayil meethE senRu asurar anja venRu ) : You donned the battle attire and rode the impeccable peacock and defeated the frightened celestials;

குன்றிடை மணம் புணர்ந்து செந்தில் நகர் வந்தமர்ந்த பெருமாளே.(kunRidai maNam puNarnthu senthil nagar vanthu amarntha perumALE.) : and married (Devayanai) at Thirupparankundram and came to reside at Tiruchendur.
