விரைவின்க ணந்தகன் பொரவந்த தென்றுவெந்
துயர்கொண்ட லைந்துலைந்	தழியாமுன்
வினையொன்று மின்றிநன் றியலொன்றி நின்பதம்
வினவென்று அன்புதந்	தருள்வாயே
அரவின்கண் முன்துயின் றருள்கொண்ட லண்டர்கண்
டமரஞ்ச மண்டிவந்	திடுசூரன்

Paraphrase

Our bodies are an assembly of various organs and bony structures, held together by flesh and muscles and nurtured by blood, in which a deceptive mind resides. A number of experiences of worldly pleasures and pain occur, and before long, Yama knocks at the door, leaving us in anguish. 'Before I perish in vain, please bless me so that I contemplate on Your hallowed feet,' prays Saint Arunagirinathar.

சிரம் அங்கம் அம் கை கண் செவி வஞ்ச நெஞ்சு செம்சலம் என்பு திண் பொருந்திடு மாயம் (siram angam am kai kaN sevi vanja nenju semchalam enbu thiN porunthidu mAyam) : A head, beautiful hands, eyes, ears, a treacherous mind, blood and bones – all of this constitute this mysterious body; செம்சலம் (semchalam) : red water, i.e., blood;

சில துன்பம் இன்பம் ஒன்றி இற வந்து பின்பு (sila thunbam inbam onRi iRa vanthu pinbu) : this body undergoes some unhappy and happy experiences, and at the time of death,

செம் தழலின் கண் வெந்து சிந்திட ஆவி (sem thazhalin kaN venthu sinthida Avi) : when the body is roasted in red flames of fire as the life is spilled and

விரைவின் கண் அந்தகன் பொர வந்தது என்று வெம் துயர் கொண்டு அலைந்து உலைந்து ( viraivin kaN anthakan pora vanthathu enRu vem thuyar koNdu alainthu ) : before I grieve, Yaman (God of Death) has come soon to wage his war with me, and I feel shaken as I die.

அழியா முன் வினை ஒன்றும் இன்றி நன்று இயல் ஒன்றி (azhiyA mun vinai onRum inRi nanRu iyal onRi) : Before that hour, I wish to get rid of all my bad deeds and associate with only good deeds,

நின் பதம் வினவ என்று அன்பு தந்து அருள்வாயே (nin patham vinava enRu anpu thanthu aruLvAyE ) : and for this, kindly bless me with the love to contemplate Your hallowed feet! உமது பாதத்தை ஆராய்ந்து அறியும் அன்பை எனக்கு என்று அருள் புரிவீர்.

அரவின் கண் முன் துயின்று அருள் கொண்டல் அண்டர் கண்டு அமர் அஞ்ச மண்டி வந்திடு சூரன் (aravin kaN mun thuyinRu aruL koNdal aNdarkaNdu amar anja maNdi vanthidu sUran) : Lord VishNu, the cloud-complexioned protector of all lives who sleeps on the serpent (AdhisEshan), and the celestials were scared to face the battle, when the demon Suran confronted them menacingly; ஆதிசேடன் மீது முன் அறிதுயில் கொண்டு உலகங்கட்கு அருள் புரிகின்றவரும், நீலமேக வண்ணரும் ஆகிய திருமாலும் தேவர்களும் பார்க்க, போரில் அஞ்சுமாறு நெருங்கி வந்த சூரபன்மன், கொண்டல் (kondal) : cloud; Vishnu with the complexion of a cloud;

அகலம் பிளந்து அணைந்து அகிலம் பரந்து இரங்கிட (agalam piLanthu aNainthu agilam paranthu irangida) : Tearing his wide chest, and making his shriek reach all parts of the world,

அன்று உடன்று கொன்றிடும் வேலா (anRu udanRu konRidum vElA) : You killed him that day with utmost rage, Oh Lord with the spear! உடன்று (udanRu) : getting enraged, கோபித்து, சினந்து

மரை வெம் கயம் பொருந்திட வண்டு இனம் குவிந்து இசை ஒன்ற (marai vem kayam porunthida vaNdu inam kuvinthu isai onRa) : (In this place,) the lotus flowers blossom beautifully in ponds while swarms of beetles band together and hum in unison; (தா)மரை ((tha)marai) : lotus; கயம் (kayam) : water body, ditch, lake;

மந்தி சந்துடன் ஆடும் வரையின் கண் வந்து வண் குற மங்கை (manthi santhudan Adum varaiyin kaN vanthu vaN kuRa mangai ) : monkeys playfully jump on the sandalwood trees here (in VaLLimalai); You went to this mountain to see VaLLi, the young damsel of the KuRavAs, சந்து (santhu) : sandalwood tree; வண் (vaN) : young, fertile;

பங்கயம் வர நின்று கும்பிடும் பெருமாளே.(pangayam vara ninRu kumpidum perumALE. ) : stood until she set her lotus feet there and fell at them, Oh Great One!
